Lips: Tarte Inside Out Gloss in Nirvana

Thinking about: Too much – looking for a new job, mortgage rates, looking for a house, etc.
Hair: Casually clipped up in a large butterfly clip
What I’d do if I didn’t have to go to work/school today: Sleep, look for a new job, shop for presents (I love getting presents for people!)
Goals for the week: Look for a new job, decide what to do about switching cell phone services (buy a phone for $120 and have no contract, or get a free phone with a 2-year contract), take care of returning DVD that arrived broken, workout at least five days this week, make a huge batch of stir-fry for lunch this week and next, look for birthday presents for my brother and my fiance’s sister’s boyfriend, and a lot of other things that are written down in my PDA. 😛 And hopefully, in addition to all that, have some fun and get some rest, because I’m off Friday and next Monday, and on Friday I’m having a girls’ day with some of my fiance’s family (they’re super-great!). 🙂

  4. Karen says:

    Hi Laurie,

Have a great week, girlie! I hope you get everything done before your trip. Where are you off to?

  5. Karen says:

    Hi Jenna,

I think I do, too. I’m sort of a loose powder addict, LOL. How do you like the Stila Illuminating?

Oh, I listened to your song and I like it! This is random, but I saw that group on this show on Vh1 called New York Goes to Hollywood.

  6. Karen says:

    Hi Okami08,

Mmm… stir fry! I’m so hungry right now. 🙂

I love shopping for gifts, too. I like to get people things that they wouldn’t get for themselves, or completely useless gifts that are just really funny.

Have fun at your girls’ day!

  7. Laurie says:

    Hi Karen,

I’m off to Denver next week. I will be packing extra moisturizer. My skin gets out of whack when I go there:)

Also – I just re-read your list and I’m not sure how I missed it the first time around, but “thinking about starting a family…” That’s really exciting! Tabs wants a sis (or bro!)

  8. Caro says:

Mood: I’m sleepy, since I went to see Mötley Crüe last night… rock concerts on Sunday nights suck…

    Socks: black
Fight song of the week: Hard to Handle by the Black Crowes…

Lips: Cherry Carmex… they’re so badly chapped.

    Fragrance: Ralph…

    Mascara: AD Diamond Mascara

    Thinking about: Sleeping, vacations…

Hair: Curly, on a sleek ponytail.

What I’d do if I didn’t have to go to work/school today: Run some errands… maybe watching morning cartoons.

Goals for the week: Getting all of my job done, and working on my attitude… because it’s been really sucky recently.

  9. Karen says:

    Hi Laurie,

Although I’ve never been to Denver, I would like to go someday, cause I’ve heard it’s a cool city. Do you know what makeup you’re going to bring? I still haven’t mastered the art of packing makeup/beauty products for trips, le sigh.

I’ve been thinking about it more and more and I am about as ready as I could possibly be. Who knows what the future holds… hopefully good things! 🙂

  10. Karen says:

    Hi Caro,

I go through phases where I have to do some serious adjustment of my attitude. It sounds totally cheesy, but I’ve noticed that if I make the effort to view the situation with a positive spin it helps. I also have these mantras I say to myself when I start *freaking out*! Those have been helping a lot, too.

Anyhoo, I hope your week goes well! 🙂

OH, can I just say that’s SO RAD that you went to see the CRUE last night? Home Sweet Home is my jam, girl!

  11. Laurie says:

Denver is pretty awesome – although I’ve only been there a few times for work so I never seem to get out enough while I’m there. I’ll probably pack too much makeup, but I think I’ve got it down to a system. All of my dry products will be coming with me in my carry on. I had a Stila palette crack the last time it went in my checked bags and I was so bummed! I’ve learned – and just pack my liquids very tightly in a makeup bag.

  12. Jaime says:

    Mood: Exhausted

    Socks: Black

Fight song of the week: Katy Perry “Hot n Cold”

Lips: Kat Von D Underage Red Lipstick with Korres Cherry Oil Gloss

    Fragrance: Benefit B Spot

    Mascara: Too Faced Lash Injection
Thinking about: Halloween costumes. (Treasure troll or zombie!?)

Hair: Beehive 🙂 Literally. Not so much Winehouse though more classic.

What I’d do if I didn’t have to go to work/school today: I would have slept in. That’s all I can think about right now is sleep.

Goals for the week: Start a training program at work. (Going for a promotion soon) Get enough sleep to not feel tired by lunch break. And DANCE! It’s my only form of stress relief.

  13. Elle says:

Hopeful for my White Sox and happy about my dog’s good (well, relatively good!) health

    No socks today

My fight song of the week:
So What by Pink, or Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey

    MAC Rich & Ripe lipglass

    Burberry Brit

    Almay…can’t remember the name though

    Thinking about:
How happy I will be to have this election nonsense OVER WITH!

Not nearly as pretty as I hoped it to be today, since I actually–gasp–put a modicum of effort into “styling” it, so instead of bouncy waves they’re limp and sad!

What I’d do if I didn’t have to go to work/school today:
    Get more sleep!

    Goals for the week:
Actually making it to the gym, and not getting too worked up over the little things.

  14. Karen says:

    Hi Laurie,

That’s a good strategy. I made the mistake of putting all my makeup in a huge gallon ziploc during my last trip (totally lame, I know). I was fine going to Hawaii, but on the way back they almost didn’t let me (and my Chanel lipglosses) through. I almost had a nervous breakdown! Oh, and speaking of palettes, I am “auditioning” a few right now to take on my trip to Florida in November. I’m thinking of bringing a few Stila ones. 🙂

I’m sorry if I asked you this already, but what do you do for work?

  15. Karen says:

    Hi Jaime,

I am thoroughly TEAM ZOMBIE! I like any costume that gives you an excuse to execute some serious Thriller moves. 🙂

  16. Karen says:

    Hi Elle,

    “Hold on to that feeeling…”

Girl, I am going to try not to get worked up over little things, too. I hope you have a good week, and that your team does well!

  17. Laurie says:

I work for a PR firm in DC – communications, marketing and the like. I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it before, so no worries:)

While we’re being all chatty here, I should mention that I’m wearing Haute Chocolate on my toes and fingers. I NEVER buy Chanel polish, ever! But I painted my left thumb while strolling by the Macy’s Chanel counter yesterday and 30 minutes came right back because it dried to be the most gorgeous, rich chocolate brown shade I’ve ever seen. I’m going to wear this all season long.

  18. Karen says:

    Hi Laurie,

Oh cool! Do you like it? I worked very briefly in PR waaaaay back in the day.

LOL, I have been purposely avoiding the Chanel counter because I kinda know what’s going to happen when I see Haute Chocolate in person. 🙂 I am going to another Chanel master class in November so I’m hoping I can hold out until then. My will is weak, though… ahhhhh!

  19. Yellow Fever says:

Goals for the week : to win McDonald’s monopoly lol just kidding…to meet my sales goals

  20. Laurie says:

I do like it – my clients are very “DC” – a lot of associations and government offices. It’s pretty interesting though – I find I use a lot of different skills in this business.

Good luck to you on holding out! I would stay far away from Chanel as long as you can because you won’t be able to resist it:) I will say that this color is very unique and a good purchase. I saw OPI’s holiday polishes too – and they didn’t have a brown in the bunch.

  21. Milan says:

Mood: bleh! Fighting off a migraine

Fragrance: Pierre Cardin, 360 (for women)

Thinking about: getting a new hairstyle and color
Hair: way too much regrowth, in a messy bun waiting for a new haircut and color
What I’d do if I didn’t have to go to work/school today: actually, I didn’t have work/school today! I met a friend for dinner and some shopping
Goals for the week: book an appointment with a hairdresser

Happy Monday! Guess what? I was working last week! It was only an odd job at the same department store where I wrapped gifts last May. They called me and asked me if I could come and work for them as a gift wrappper for a couple of days and I did. It was fun, too bad it ended already. So how was the bridal shower? Had a blast? 🙂

  47. Faye says:

    Bonjour all!

Mood: Worried about the state of the world, but determined to do more to help, perhaps by increasing my volunteer activities and lending money to friends in need.

Socks: None, just took off my pantyhose!

Fight song of the week: Beethoven’s 5th Symphony (the dramatic parts are very good for the market activity of the past week).

Lips: Kanebo Coffret D’or in RS something . . . a light, shimmery rose color

    Fragrance: Prada Infusion d’Iris

    Mascara: Lancome Courbe Virtuouse

Thinking about: My plans for the evening

Hair: As usual, straight, long and sleek (thank you TR, for my frizz-free coiff!)

What I’d do if I didn’t have to go to work/school today: Double my volunteer time (hubby and I do volunteer visits at nursing home/children’s hospital on Mondays), take a walk, maybe do some makeup shopping (trying not to think of all the Chanel holiday purchases I just made yesterday — Haute Chocolate polish, Red Shine glossimer, and Ardent Rouge Allure, love you all!)

Goals for the week: To firm up my goals for the New Year (well it’s the Jewish New Year, anyway), and to remember to be thankful for what I have! And on a less loft level, to check out the new fall Talbot’s clothes.

    Hi Ellery,

For some reason buying furniture paralyzes me. I can easily pick out shoes or a lipstick shade, but when it comes to picking out pieces that I know I’ll have to look at day in day out for years I lock up and can’t seem to function! Good luck on your hunt to find cute, cheap stuff.

And LOL, I think you really might be the only person who likes Mondays!

  50. Karen says:

    Hi Kelly,

How fun! How old are the twins?

I just watched Nic and Nora’s this weekend. It’s really cute.

  51. Karen says:

    Hi Tatiana,

While I was vegging this passed weekend I watched Hitch for the billionth time… the King of Queens guy stars in it and he’s hilarious! He’s really good a physical comedy.

I will be right there with you working it out!

  52. Karen says:

    Hi Tali,

Don’t do it, girl! Just picking at it makes it worse. Trust me… I have been there and done that a million times.

Hope you get some good rest. I’m starting to crash a lil’ too…

    Hi Indian Girl,

It’s from the CD with Bossy on it! The entire CD is great, and probably my favorite of Kelis’ albums so far. I’m glad you liked it. 🙂 Are you a hip hop fan, too?

Hope you’re having a good day… I’m just about to leave work! I’m off to go home to grab some groceries for dinner cause I’m starvin’ like marvin.

  57. Indian Girl says:

I’ll try and get that CD. I love Hip Hop…I also took a hip hop dance course in school, one quarter. The next quarter I tried Jazz. My Jazz instructor was way more fun than the Hip Hop one. The Hip Hop was handsome like crazy but was kinda proud…

    Have fun cooking !

  59. Karen says:

    Hi Tania,

LOL, you made me laugh with your Orange Glo statement. What new books did you get? I’m about a quarter of a way through Three Cups of Tea.

  60. Karen says:

    Hi Megan,

I’ve been rocking the EL High Gloss hard. That stuff is really moisturizing, and it tastes kinda good. 🙂

I hope you and your allergist find something … I hate having allergies, especially when they get past the point of no return and there seems to be nothing you can do to stop them.

Awww, your hair is getting long. I remember last year when you had your Betty Boop hair!

  61. Karen says:

    Hi Madeleine,

Oh no! I hope tomorrow will be better for you. At least you got a new haircut (that’s always nice). How do you like your bob?

  62. Karen says:

    Hi Jo,

What kind of puppy do you have? I know Tabs is always up here but I’m also a dog person.

I just went home to my parents’ house a few weeks ago and I suddenly realized that my dog Shauna (she’s actually my dad’s dog now) is getting up there in years. I got her when she was a puppy 8 years ago and now when I see her she’s moving a little slower, and she’s got grey on her snout. It made me a lil’ teary…

  63. Karen says:

    Hi Louise Gray,

    Sho’ nuff…

How are you liking your new mascara? Can you see the green, or is it subtle?

  64. Karen says:

    Hi Aleks,

Hey! I remember when you got that job a few months ago. Do you ever find yourself admiring other people’s gift wrapping handiwork when your receive gifts now? I totally do that (I worked as a gift wrapper back in the day, too).

What are you thinking for your new hairstyle and color? I am still itching to chop my off!

  65. Karen says:

    Hi Faye,

Bonjour! Ahhh! You’re the second person to talk sweet makeup music about Haute Chocolate. I am gonna have to cave!

  66. Karen says:

    Hi Bisi,

Girl, don’t do it! You better let that boy call you!!

  67. Karen says:

    Hi NurseExec,

I hear that! My grays have set up camp up in my bang area and I am NOT happy about it. Grrrr…

  68. Karen says:

    Hi Brittany,

I like your goal to kick some ass this week! Now that’s on my list, too!

    What book are you reading?

  69. Karen says:

    Hi Indian Girl,

I just finished making dinner so now it’s time to eat, yay!

That’s cool that you can jazz dance. I did it for a few years and then realized that me and jazz dance are just not meant to be. It’s fun, but my body doesn’t “get” it in the way that it gets hip hop. I wish I could be a better jazz dancer, though, cause it really helps with overall technique.

Sweet! I hope you like the CD. I always like sharing new music with others. If you have any good requests you gotta let me know! 🙂

I live in Taiwan and I can usually only buy high-end makeup here, like Stilla, Mac, Bobbie Brown, Chanel…. This is why I love your blog because you do reviews on stuff I can actually get here! 78. Ellery says:

Ugh, I know right?! I’ve been looking for months and it’s especially hard since I want ivory, cream, or gray furniture and it’s just impossible, but when I do find it it’s always expensive. I’m probably going to end up buying some cheap solid pine stuff I saw and paint it.

And change the knobs, I want little glass ones. It doesn’t help that I’m extremely indecisive and very very picky, it takes me so long to choose between anything. (even groceries, I stand there choosing between two things for so long, lol!) 🙁

  80. Aleks says:

    Good morning!

Yes, that’s exactly what I do! And now I know that the job ain’t as easy as it may look like, too. It takes some skills to curl the ribbons, pick the right amount of paper (try to pack a vacuum cleaner, lol) and all. And people are soooo impatient, I can’t believe it! We wrap gifts for them for free and all they need to do is wait for a few minutes and what they do? Complain. Oh well 😀

My hair’s been golden blonde for the past three years or so and only this Fall I’ve come to realise it prolly ain’t my colour after all. My brows are naturally very dark yet my hair is ashy blonde (natural color) and I’m pale with warm skintone (NW20). Brown would require touch ups too often so I’m thinking about something like this:
My hair has also been straight and boring long enough so I’m thinking layers (not too distinguishable tho) and *drums* bangs 😀 This is the ideal haircut:

How short are you thinking of going? 🙂

  81. Jo says:

    Hi Karen,

“Huddle”- He is a full black english cocker spaniel. 10 months old. Full of energy and attitude!
Thank goodness he didn’t make too much of a mess 🙂

It’s so sad to see them get so old so quickly I hate it! 🙁
My mom also has my other dog Hershey- She is a Terrier mix, 7 years old and she is starting to slow down too, slowly losing her sight. Its so sad. But I definitely enjoy them and they are happy, so thats good.

    So how are you?

  82. Karen says:

    Hi Michelle,

I hear ya! I think that’s why I’ve ended up flat ironing for the past few days… sometimes it’s just so much easier.

How old is your boy? It must be nice to have him home for fall break.

  83. Karen says:

    Hi Ines,

GIRL! I swear coffee really helps a ton when it comes to concentration. At least that’s my excuse for drinking copious amounts of it!

Yesterday I was in your same zombie state. I barely got any sleep the night before and was looking pretty living dead. To fake the bright and perky I rely on two things: 1.) concealer for the dreaded dark circles from Hades 2.) a really great blush (I love MAC Blushbaby). Both instantly perk my face up. Curling the eyelashes and slapping on some lipgloss helps, too, but that’s more of the icing on the cake. A great bronzer is helpful, too, but I’m often too lazy to go there.

I know you’re working hard, but try to get some rest soon. Tabs sends all of his stripy love. 🙂

  84. Karen says:

    Hi Lydia,

I’ve done that before with mascara. How are you liking the blue?

  85. Karen says:

    Hi Marisol,

How exciting! Where are you going for your trip?

  86. Karen says:

    Hi Brittany,

It sounds interesting. I am always on the hunt for new reads so I will add it to my list. Thanks! 🙂

  87. Karen says:

    Hi Erica,

Feel better soon, girlie! Get lots of good rest!

  88. Karen says:

    Hi Lehea,

That’s so hot! Will you be sporting weaponry as accessories?

I am still not sure what I am going to dress up as this year. I will have to meditate on it soon.

  89. Karen says:

    Hi Shana T,

Yay! Thanks for stopping by to say hi. 🙂 What are your favorite brands? Are you a MAC girl, too?

  90. Karen says:

    Hi Ellery,

Hmm, what is your design style like? I was thinking of the colors you mentioned and immediately thought of this furniture company that we have here, West Elm.

You can shop by color on their site. Here’s a link to thier gray finish furniture.

  91. Karen says:

    Hi Ditte,

How are you? Did you ever end up getting your new “horse”? And can I just say WOW? I don’t really get the need for speed on land (the air is another thing), but if I was enamored by it I would certainly go for that bike. It is *beautiful*!

  92. Karen says:

    Hi Aleks,

Right? Usually when I worked at gift wrap most people were happy because it was the holidays, but on occasion a cranky person would show up. What amazed me was how many people really wait until the last minute to buy gifts! There are a lot of procrastinators out there!

I am totally on board for you getting bangs. I think they make a great accessory. 🙂 I like the side swept version from the pic… that way they can grow out nicely and you can tuck them behind your ear as they get longer.

The color is also pretty too! I am sooo convinced blondes have more fun, but alas, that is a road that I probably shouldn’t go down, le sigh!

I am trying very hard to not chop my hair as it’s going to get cold here very soon and I need all the warmth I can get. 🙂 I dunno how short I’ll go, to be honest. I’ll probably end up going somewhere and telling a stylist to just go for it.

Are you having a good week so far? I am so ready for Friday.

  93. Karen says:

    Hi Jo,

I am doing pretty well, thanks for asking. 🙂 I went running this afternoon after work, which always puts me in a better mood (cause of the endorphins and because it works the knots in my back out). It was a busy day at work, but all in all not too bad.

Huddle sounds SO CUTE! I love it when you can look at dogs and still see the “puppy” features in their face. Awww! Have you taught him any fun tricks?

    Hi Marisol,

How exciting! OMG — I bet they will be so happy to see you too as well. Do you have concrete plans to visit sites while you are there, or are you just going to wing it with the fam?

  98. Ditte says:

    Hi Karen,
I rented it to testdrive it – THAT was an amazing weekend 😀
Also tested what kind of products that can stand up to high speeds and wind. MAC slimshine does well on hydrating the lips for longer rides and L’oréal double extension beauty tubes does well by not streaming down the cheeks 🙂
Ended up riding 700 km/435 miles.
