Face of the Day: Dior Brown-Eyed Girl

September 22nd, 2008 by Karen 28 Comments

Girrrrl, next time you’re in Sephora, get your hands on Dior’s 2-Colour Eyeshadow duos ($35 each) because these shadows apply and blend like buttah!

Each if the eight duos includes a matte and a shimmer shadow in coordinating shades. For work today I grabbed the Pop Look duo, with its matte chocolate brown and shimmery gold shadows. I was shooting for sophisticated (for work) yet fun and wanted to use brown.

The Eyes

Products

  • MAC Concrete Eye Shadow
  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • Dior 2-Colour Eyeshadow in Pop Look
  • Diorshow Iconic Mascara in Noir
  • MAC Fix+

The Eye Look

  1. First, with a 266 angled brush, I filled in my brows with MAC Concrete shadow.
  2. Next, I patted Too Faced Shadow Insurance primer onto my lids with a finger tip.
  3. I applied the matte brown shadow onto my lids and just barely into the crease with a MAC 252 eye shader brush.
  4. Then, using a 217 blending brush, I applied the shimmery shade to the center of each lid.
  5. To enhance the shimmer shade even more, I wet a MAC 239 eye shading brush with a spritz of MAC Fix+ and swept the wet brush head across the pan of shimmer shadow (using a wet brush amplifies eye shadow colors). I added a couple dots of the wet shimmer to the center of each lid.

After blending away any harsh lines with a 217 blending brush, I finished the eyes by curling my lashes and adding two coats of Dior Iconic mascara to the top and bottom lashes.

I think the contrast of light on dark opens up the eyes…

The Cheeks

Products

  • MAC Emote blush

The Cheek Look

  1. Using a MAC 129 powder/blush brush, I swept MAC Emote blush onto the apples of my cheeks and then up into the hairline

The Lips

Products

  • Dior Rouge Lipstick in Fiction Brown

The Lip Look

  1. I applied one layer of Fiction Brown onto my lips directly from the tube, blotted with a tissue and added a second layer to deepen the color. Now, blow yourself a kiss in the mirror because you’re done! 🙂

The final look…

I rarely wear an entirely brown look (makes me feel too UPS), but I was kinda feeling it today. If I do this look again, I think I’ll try it with a shimmery coral cheek instead.

Saturday Wedding

The wedding I went to last Saturday was a lot of fun. My school girlfriends are all getting married and moving on with their lives. I don’t get to see them very often anymore. Seems like everyone’s always so busy (myself included).

I used to see these gals practically every day back when we were in school, but now with our busy schedules and lives it’s maybe once every few months. I really want that to change.

Anywho, I hope your Monday went smoooothly and that you’re feeling fierce!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Hi KK,

I got that a few years ago from and forgot that I had it. I found it this morning, LOL. It’s some random indy designer…I like it cause it’s a wrap dress and it makes me look skinny. Plus, I don’t have to iron it!

I actually don’t really like this look on you.. Sorry! It’s just kind of blah to me. I think you look better/fresher in brighter colors. You do look fab in the wedding pic though.

    Hi Jessica,

Yah, it’s a shade I don’t usually wear a lot so it’s a different look. When I do it again I’ll have to add a bright pop on the cheek or change up the lip. Do you wear browns often?

    Hey Karen,
I love the eyes! ooooh. Now I’m thinking, what do I have at home that I can try this with?

the wedding pic is cute, glad you had fun.

as a follow-up to the question earlier, I did light sheer gold eyeshadow wash, black gel liner, medium pink glowy cheeks and jampacked lipgloss to the wedding I went to on saturday (outfit black pants and plum cropped swing jacket).

    Hi Karen B,

Awww, thanks hon! Yeah, they are a lot of fun. We had lots of good times in school. Enjoy having your friends close to you while you’re in school … it gets harder as you get older.

It’s been a while since I’ve asked, but how is your foot? Are you all healed?

    Hi Gina,

It’s some random indy designer that I got from a small shop in Marin years ago. I totally forgot I had it until yesterday, LOL!

Ohhh that’s too bad that Happiness didn’t work for you. There are other lovely shades that are lighter. I haven’t tried ’em yet, but hopefully I can find one that might work a bit better for your lips. 🙂

    Hi Gio,

Thanks, girlie! I hope I get to see them more, too. I’ve read that it’s important to foster friendships, which is why I’m also glad that I have you and all the other readers to chat with on this blog! I feel like we’re all just kinda hanging out at a virtual coffee shop and talking ’bout makeup. 🙂

    Happy Tuesday!

    Hi Amanda,

Hmm, do you have a brown matte like Stila Espresso? You could prolly use Icon or Kitten as the shimmer shade. 🙂

Yah! Nice wedding look! I like how you balanced out the lips with a classic eye. Did you do a cat eye w/ a lil’ flick at the end?

You know, it’s weird to finally be of age when all my friends are getting married. I still can’t believe I’ve been out of college for ten years. Gosh the time goes by so fast.
