Sonia Kashuk Spring Treasures and Good Old-Fashioned Improv

Published in: Drugstore Beauty Finds, Makeup

Hi, chicas! I woke up this morning to some Internetz trubs, so until my new friend from Comcast works it out, I’ll be improv blogging from my phone.

I know these pics of the new Sonia Kashuk Spring Treasures collection ($13-20) look kinda Blair Witchy, but I couldn’t wait. I’m testing these out today, and so far so good with the brushes. The heads feel super soft (like Tabs’s fur!).

I’ll post swatches of the highlighting powder and palette soon, hopefully using something better than the camera in my phone, LOL!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Happy Thursday Karen!

I love love love the handles on these brushes, I might buy the set just because they are so cute!

I made a sad connection: I realized that energy drinks make me break out. I tested it…and when I don’t drink Monsters, my skin is awesome. When I do drink one, I wake up with some serious skin monsters on my face. Sad, sometimes I really need the caffeine :-(

    • Karen says:

Hi Vanessa H., hmm, how about drinking green tea instead? You’ll get a lil caffiene plus it’s full of lots of good anti-oxidants!

I here you on the caffiene dependency. Without a cup of coffee in the morning I’m cranky!

  2. YadiQ says:

    hi karen!

love the improv blogging i think tabs enjoys it too

  3. Denisa says:

    Karen,

I love this set! Ever since I purchased them, I have been using them everyday along with some of my MAC brushes. The handles are really unique (which is really why I wanted them SO bad!) =) Anyways, I love the way Tabs just cooperates for all of your pics! You have an kool kitty!

    • Karen says:

Hi Denisa, I am falling in love with the brushes! I can’t believe how soft they are. Do you have the highlighted/kabuki brush too?

LOL, I can only get him to pose when he’s completely exhausted from a night of gallavanting!

  4. Kerry says:

    Hey Karen

    Where are the brushes available?

  5. Sylvie says:

I’ve seen these brushes and I have been super curious about them!

  6. Tania says:

    Karen-
Thanks a crap-ton! I was hoping that you’d do a review of these because I need some new brushes. My brushes from Sephora look BUSTED. Tabs looks so sweet in that picture! They always look cute when they’re asleep though huh?

  7. Luv J says:

Cool brushes! Tabs is so game! My Shih Tzu would have made a toothpick out of those brushes if I propped them on him like that. Yes, he definitely is a “cool cat” so to speak..

    • Karen says:

Hi Luv J, The trick is to catch them when they are exhausted. Since Tabs is nocturnal and sleeps for 10 hours every day I have a lot of opportunities to mess with him!

  8. Nikki says:

i love these brushes! i might have a friend back in the states buy them for me so i can get it when i go back home for a visit in August, just in case they aren’t still selling the set by then!

    • Karen says:

Hi Nikki, That sounds like a good idea. I have a feeling these are gonna be hard to find in a few months. Are you out of country now for school, work or fun?

  9. Kate & Zena says:

    Tabs looks very comfortable.

  10. Denisa says:

    Hi Karen,

I only purchased the set with the case, I didn’t want to get the Kabuki brush until I knew I loved the others…which I dooo! lol I also went and purchased the Flat top blusher brush from Sonia’s other (black handle) collection and I must say I found my new fav. brush! I shall be heading over to ‘targhay’ pretty soon to pick up the Blending sponge and the Kabuki brush!

    Happy spring Karen!

  11. Laurie says:

I just laughed out loud when I saw the brushes laid out across Tabs! How precious. I love how he is your muse (or are you his?!!!)

This set interests me – I think Sonia brushes are great quality.

How cute is Tabs! I also love the pink collar on him!

I really wish we had Target and Ulta up here in Canada, when I price shop online it is amazing how much cheaper stuff is for you guys!

  13. cloudburst says:

Um I love those brushes! I wonder if I can talk my friend in Jersey into sending those my way…

  14. Briana says:

Haha that’s so cute with the brushes all over tabs! My cat would never lay still long enough for me to do that!

  15. Michele says:

E.L.F.com has all beauty pruducts and brushes for a $1.00! You can’t do better than that. Try it.

  16. PeeChee says:

    HI Karen.

Just wanted to say hi. I’ve been MIA with comments but still lovin’ your blog.

  17. Jamie says:

That’s it! I’m buying that brush kit, it looks so fabulous. And I know those handles are such a gimmick, but I’m falling so hard for it.

  18. LayLa says:

i dont really like cats because of my allergies,
but Tabs looks like fun, hahahahaha

  19. Jamie Lynn says:

I was so excited, at Nordstroms, getting my face on with one of the artists and I saw you! It was like a mythical creature…I kept double taking, was it really her!? I had my own celebrity sighting!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Jamie Lynn,

LOL, that’s funny… I kinda noticed you looking and I kept wondering if I had met you before! Next time please say hi! :) I had my camera and would’ve loved to have gotten a pic with you.

  20. Dao says:

Tabs is such a trooper! He let you lay the brushes on him :) He’s a makeup addict, I guess, since he does not think them bruses as cat toys. This new collection does not reach my neck of the woods yet but I’ll be sure to check it out.

  21. Kate & Zena says:

Ha ha, napping seems to be one of Zena’s talents as well. I think Zena’s other talent is the ability to make anyone smile and laugh.

Has Tab’s dental chews arrived yet at your house? If so, is he liking them?

    • Karen says:

      Hi Kate & Zena,

I haven’t ordered ‘em yet. I’ve had a disorganized week so I’m behind on my to-do list. :)

Zena sounds like a great dog! I grew up with dogs and I miss having a pup around. Now that Tabs is in my life I dunno if I’m going to be able to have dogs in the future… Tabs is very possessive of his humans and not the type to share.

  22. treesandballoons says:

poor tabs! i dont care for the coral print, or the brushes, but i do love the makeup in the ‘clam shell’! is it blush or eyeshadow?

  23. Nikki says:

hey again karen :) im acutally living in canada perm. now. i met my fiance online and i moved to be with him :)
but brush problem solved i called my ever wonderful grandmother and she is gonna buy the set and ship it to me :)

  24. Baby A says:

I love this line of brushes and think this set is a deal steal! I highly recommend her Foundation Brush, the Councealer Brush, both the large and small eye shadow Contour Brush and the Smudge Brush. After reading an article comparing one of her brushes to a very popular makeup artist line, I decided to give to check it out for myself. I went back for more after I was convinced of the quality for the low price, especially for your “work horse” brushes that need to be replaced more often.
The article also praised her lip crayon comparing it to Nars Matte Lip Crayon. Again a winner for me at roughly $8.00, plus I find it is not as drying as the Nars can be.
The eyeshadow is average, the colors are pretty but don’t last even with a primer.

  25. Connie says:

The kitty picture totally made my day! the brush set looks tempting indeed! But perhaps the bag is more practical for me. I don’t have a decent travel cosmetic bag

  26. Stacie says:

I will definitely have to check out those brushes!

BTW, are you drinking coffee from a straw? Great for teeth!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Stacie,

Yup, I drink coffee and tea with a straw. My dentist told me to do it, LOL! Sometimes I drink red wine with a straw… it looks totally lame but whatev, I don’t want brown chompers. :)

  27. Michele says:

Karen definetly try ELF. They even have a new professsional line which is a whopping $3.00 a pop callled elf professional. It is a great site. Give it a try,
    Michele

I got a couple of Sonia Kashuk brushes and they are awesome! I like the look of the brush handles but I wonder how much hassle they would be to store

Paris B´s last blog post..Upcoming: Sunplay Skin Aqua UV Face Cream and L’oreal White Perfect Transparent Rosy Whitening Essence

    • Karen says:

      Hi Paris B.,

I popped them in my brush canister and they stand upright alright. I don’t think they’ll be much more of a hassle than regular brushes. :)

Which Sonia brushes did you try?

  29. Nikki says:

    hey karen :)

its ok here, being a southern girl i miss home alot, canada is so very different from where i grew up. i miss the warm weather more than anything! the culture is alot more different than i thought it would be..but i live with family of filipinos so that might have something to do with it :-P

    • Karen says:

      Hi Nikki,

Oh, I would miss warm weather, too. El Hub and I often think about moving to other cheaper parts of the country like Portland but we’d both miss the sun terribly.

But love makes people take big leaps! :) Do you guys live with his family?

  30. Nikki says:

i haven’t been to portland but i’ve been to seattle. too much rain for my taste(same with where i live). it rains constantly. and not a downpour, just a constant light drizzle. its enough to make anyone crazy!

yes we live with his family, we are moving out after we get married(renting an apartment here that is halfway decent costs about $1,000+)

  31. MMT says:

So, where can I buy the set that includes the brushes AND the cat under them? :-P That is so adorable… both of them!

  32. Michele says:

Karen- BTW the ELF professional line is caled STUDIO. just log on and look to the right of the tool bar and click on STUDIO. and tab down. All of the items are there. Good luck everyone!
    Michele

  33. Marta says:

I got the Kabuki brush yesterday and i love it, it is really soft. Thank you for the review.
I am thinking to get back today for the set :-)

  34. nicole says:

I gotta say I lovelovelove your kitty :)

It’s like my life goal to go to Target. I thought there’d be one in Manhattan because of the HUGE times square ads but theres none that aren’t scary out of the way!

AND THEN they go and finally build one at home (Hawaii)!

ugh lol. :) The brush handles kinda freak me out a bit but the case looks uber cute!
