Gaga for Gold with Chanel Fall 2008

July 2nd, 2008 by Karen 41 Comments

Would ya’ll like to meet the newest members of Chanel’s family? This here’s little Delight (she’s a sweetheart), and that over there is Gold Light. They’re both shining stars in Chanel’s fall 2008 makeup collection.

Fall may be months away, but the collection just arrived at Chanel counters nationwide. I fell in love with five of the products in this release — two of the Glossimers (Delight and Gold Light), Facettes D’Or Highlighter in Gold Fever and two of the lipsticks (Pepeete and Formentera).

In the Chanel fall 2008 sneak peak a couple weeks ago I talked about a few of the fall items — Rouge Hydrabase Lipstick in Great Copper, Jouse Contraste Powder Blush in Rose Dust and Pretty Pink Lip Definer. Here are swatches of the remaining products, all now available for purchase at Nordstrom and online through Chanel.com

I also really dig the Enthusiast lipstick, the Bois Blue and Le Bronze Soft Touch Eyeshadow singles, and the Kaleidioscope nail polish.

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately for my wallet), the quad didn’t move me like I’d hoped it would. I like the dark green shade, but I think the other three colors fall a little flat.

My local Chanel counter sales rep told me the Facettes D’Or Highlighter is goin’ fast, and there were only six of them left after barely a week on sale! That one has bestseller written all over it.

What’s the verdict, friends? How do you feel about Chanel’s fall 2008 collection?

Enough about makeup (j/k!), how was your day? I’m back from the mall now, waiting for tonight’s Real World to start. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I like Kaleidoscope nail polish, it reminds me of the silver nail polish from Heatherette collection but with bling. Fall collection already? We’re still enjoying summer! I’ve gotta go to sleep, you’re so hyper today, 3 posts a day is your first, isn’t it?

I, for one, am lovin’ on this collection! I think it’s an amazing debut from Peter Philips and I’m really looking forward to seeing more from him! As I mentioned previously, I already caved on Gold Light and the Denim eyeliner! I also love Delight, probability rating (that’s the probability that I’ll go back for it within the next few months 🙂 ) is at a high 80%! The Rose Dust blush has me drooling, and I haven’t even really looked at the lippies yet! Not to mention that I still need the Rodeo Drive polish! Speaking of which, I heard an unsubstantiated rumor that our SF Chanel boutique will be carrying the Robertson Blvd. polishes!

Ooh, Chanel, you just get me all worked up! 😀

    Hi Dao,

I really liked Kaleidoscope too. It is a bit more green than it looks it a pic… like moolah for your nails.

I am in the midst of writing so much about fall now, but in my heart it’ll always be an endless summer.

    G’night, sweet dreams. 🙂

    Hi Glosslizard,

The lipsticks are really super pretty. I have a few Papeete Lip Looks in the hopper that I think you will like.

Have you worn your gold Glossimer yet? I actually took mine out in the car and put it on in the Nordie’s parking lot, LOL!

I got so excited that I forgot to ask… is the highlighter similar to MAC MSF in Shimpagne? It does have a nice shimmeriness (not sure if that is word) to it.

Hi Karen, thanks for the swatches and thoughts.

I love all three Glossimers, the gold highlighter, Simply pink and Enthusiast lipsticks. Wonder if I can pull Enthusiast off though. I also like the all three nail varnishes. Surprisingly, I am not impressed by the eye colors. I will have to wait till August for this collection, and I suspect the entire collection may not be available here.

    Hey K!
I’m a little deceived with this collection. 🙁 Too much gold for my taste, and the shades in general are not really my kind. 🙁 Maybe when I see it in person I’ll change my mind, but right now I would skip everything. Uhm, maybe I’m ill or something? (LoL) 😀
Thanks for the swatches hun! I loved your Nars EOTD. 🙂

    Hi Marisol,

I don’t own Shimpagne, so I can’t really tell you how the color compares, but the texture does remind me of the MSF a LOT!

    Hi Miss QQ,

Enthusiast is a really beautiful red. Seriously hot if one looks good in corals. I wanted to get it but figured I wouldn’t use it as much as the other lippies. If I’m still lusting after it in a few weeks I just might give in though, LOL.

    Hi Eru!

Thank you, girlie. 🙂 Do you usually wear orange?

So, I was bummed about the quad in this release. I really wanted to love it. While I was at the counter I actually fell in love with an eyeshadow set that’s in the permanent collection — Emerald Coast Irreelle Duo. Have you tried it? It’s really pretty!

    Hi Triska,

Pepeete is super gorgeous! If you try it, pop either the Delight or the Gold Light Glossimer on top. That’s how the MA sold me on it, LOL!

    Hi Melissa,

Yeah, it’s kind of a habit that can put a dent in one’s wallet. I feel though, that the colors aren’t too trendy, so the products at least will last a long time.

If you are totally in love with a particular shade maybe I can help to find a budget-friendly alternative. 🙂

    Hi Amanda,

Papeete is one hot mama of a lipstick. I just put some on (even though I’m still in my PJs). I will do a lip look with it soon once I can figure out this new flash I got for my camera. 🙂

    Fantastic Plum looks really gothy!

I’ve gotta compare Papeete with Splendeur! I’m seriously loving Papeete, but if it’s a similar enough pink I’ll save the $$$… maybe for Rose Dust! 😉

I’m heading to the mall later today for dinner and a stroll. If the wee-one behaves, I may swing my Macy’s for a peak. Although it’s been my experiences, that those peaks turn into major $$. I’m really excited about those pink lipsticks… I don’t have any Chanel lipsticks in my collection 🙂

    Hi there, Gorgeous,
What is it with Chanel that I swear hypnotizes me and causes me to spend all of my money on its products. I get mesmerized when I go to the counter and all of my reason seems to depart. I am liking that glossimer called Delight. Although its purplish violet shade might not do a thing for me. The silvery nail polish is more striking than the gold. But I am afraid to ask its price. Perhaps it is time to visit the Chanel counter. . . . . .

    Hi Glosslizard,

Oh! So, I think I had bad allergies and a stuffed up nose when I first used Rose Dust, because I didn’t realize until recently that it actually has a scent. It smells just like a bouquet of roses! Not to tempt you even further (heh!), but the scent really takes the blush to the next level. 🙂

    Hi Tiffany,

It’s pretty highlighter; you can totally get the same sort of look with MAC Mineralize powders, though. Are you familiar with those? They cost ’bout half as much than the Chanel one.

    Hi Daya,

It is! I didn’t get it, though, because it looked very similar to Gazelle, which I picked up a few months ago.

    Hi Louse Gray,

I totally know the Chanel trance — it kicks in when I hit the counter, too. Delight is actually really pretty when paired beneath a pink shade like Papeete. You’ve gotta try it!

When you visit the counter spray some No. 5 for me. 🙂

    Hi Karen,
I just paid a visit to my local Chanel counter to get some swatches and my oh my! My haul is pretty similar to yours – Gold Fever, Gold Light, Delight, Papeete. I also picked up Kaleidoscope a week ago online (sold out online in 2 days, eeek). Delight – I wasn’t hooked on this until I topped it over Chanel’s lipstick, omg WOW! Papeete, couldn’t resist the hot pink shimmer in this lipstick, isn’t she so pretty? Enthusaist is also very pretty topped with gold light. The shadows all were blah and didn’t seem to have good color pay-off. I’m really trying to resist getting more lipsticks but it’s so dang hard because it’s not even fall!

okay so i went to my nearest Nordstrom counter to check these glosses out – I’ve never had any luck with Chanel glosses but you’re encouraging me to give them another shot. SO what did I do? I bought 2 lip glace glosses from Laura Mercier instead ha ha ha! I will give Chanel another shot – I promise!
