Chanel Fall 2008 Makeup: Gold, and Lots of It

May 30th, 2008 by Karen 39 Comments

chanel-goldfever-collection-fall-2008-3

We’re gettin’ close, ya’ll. The July release of Chanel’s Fall 2008 makeup collection is almost here, and I can smell the Chanel-ness from here. Back in April Chanel distributed some preliminary details about the collection, i.e. some teaser info. They told us to expect lots of gold, and I mean LOTS.

The collection marks the first for new Chanel Creative Director of Makeup Peter Philips, who took the position in January. Judging by these promotional pics and my weaknesses for gold and Chanel, Philips has a winner on his hands. I’m going to be falling in love.

Here’s a marketing rundown of the complete lineup… Keep tissue handy to wipe that drool off ya chin!

Lips

Rouge Hydrabase Lipsticks ($26) contain a moisturizing, long-lasting formula designed to provide medium coverage with a semi-matte finish.

  • Simply Pink – coral pink
  • Fantastic Plum – deep purple
  • Great Copper – bronze

Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Color ($30) lipsticks promise to deliver a light, satin finish. I love the Chanel logo etched into the tube. So chic!

  • Enthusiast – rich coral red

Aqualumiere Sheer Colour Lipshine SPF 15 ($26) lipglosses should drench lips in a sheer wash of super-shiny color.

  • Formentera – beige rose
  • Papeete – sheer cranberry

Levres Scintillantes Glossimer ($26) lipglosses pack rich, glossy color and shimmer.

  • Amberlight – glossy bronze
  • Delight – sheer lilac
  • Gold Light – shimmery gold

Le Crayon Levres Precision Lip Definer ($28) lip liners have a creamy texture and line lips without tugging or pulling. They come with a built-in brush designed for blending and a double-bladed sharpener, too.

  • Pretty Pink – pink

Eyes

Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eyeshadows ($55) are the latest limited edition Chanel quads. Every season I look forward to Chanel’s new quads.

  • Reflets d’Ombre – coffee, ivory, dark green and gold shadows

Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow ($27.50) singles should deliver creamy color that lasts for hours. They come in matte, satin and shimmer shades.

  • Le Bronze – metallic brown
  • Bois Blue – dark teal

Irreelle Duo Silky Eyeshadow Duos ($38.50) will contain two coordinating colors.

  • Cristal-Dusk – white and brown

Les Crayon Yeux Precision Eye Definer ($28) promise to deliver long lasting, precise lines around.

  • Denim – grey blue

Face

Facettes D’Or Highlighter ($56) is a finely milled, radiant highlighting powder that can be applied to the curve of the cheek or over the entire face.

  • Gold Fever – golden shimmer

Joues Contraste Powder Blush ($40) promises soft, radiant color.

  • Rose Dust – rose plum

Poudre Douce ($50) pressed powder contains light-reflective pigments to enhance skin’s natural radiance.

  • Almond – radiant beige

Nails

Facettes D’Or Nail Color ($30) in a soft, gold color.

  • Gold Fiction – shimmery honey gold

Les Vernis Nail Color ($19) promises a sophisticated, shiny finish for nails.

  • Kaleidoscope – shiny green-gold
  • Fantastic – deep wine

I’m really looking forward to the nail polishes, the Facettes D’Or Highlighter powder and the Glossimers. 😉

Look for the Chanel Fall 2008 collection to be available this July. I promise to keep you posted!

I’m sorry today’s first post is so late; I got home from the midnight showing of the Sex and the City movie last night at 3 o’clock in the morning, and right now I’m really out of it. Staying up late was so worth it, though. The movie was great! The crowd was fun, too (I wasn’t the only one in heels and full-on fabulous makeup at midnight!). Yes, the movie made me shed a tear or two.

I won’t give away details (no spoilers here), but I have to share one thing that I know only fellow makeup junkies might appreciate. There’s a scene where Carrie and Miranda go to a drugstore. At one point Carrie studies a mascara in the makeup aisle, and just by seeing the side of the tube I knew that it was L’oreal Voluminous Mascara.

sex-and-the-city-carbon-black

I was *this close* to shouting up at the movie screen, “Girlfriend! You better get the Carbon Black!”, but my mouth was stuffed with popcorn. 🙂

Hope you’re having a fantastic Friday. Let the weekend begin!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Holy Smokes. I’m going to be in big trouble come July!!!

This whole collection looks great… I’m excited about the quad eyeshadow (it’s mine) and I can’t wait to see the glosses in person – the all sound gorgeous. The Gold Fever highlighter sounds like fun, but for $56 it better be awesome!

I have never seen an episode of Sex and the City, but after all the promotion these last few months, I broke down and rented some from Blockbuster to check it out for myself. I can’t wait to pop some popcorn! I wish you could join me and fill me in!

    Hi Tuprnut,

Yah, you and me both. I already can tell when I get to the counter in July I’m gonna go down in beautiful, golden, Chanel Glossimer-fueled FLAMES! I am very excited about Delight, the sheer lilac.

Oh, what a fun evening! I wish I could come and watch with you. 🙂 We’d have to have the boys watch Grace, though, cause there are some scenes not suitable for young eyes (“Mom, what are they doing?”). It’s nothing too scandalous, though, and it’s almost always something tied to humor. If you pop the popcorn I’ll bring over some ice cream. 🙂

    Hi Kris,

Hmm, the only recent collection I know by the name of Gold Digger is Laura Mercier’s. I know that this collection is referred to as the “Gold Fever” collection. Wow, that’s a lot of gold, LOL!

I have been reading your blog for so long but haven’t posted. It makes me so happy and you are so funny! I would have wanted to shout the same too…although that mascara does not work well for me.

Speaking of golds (and yes that quad sounds fab) I just bought the most stunning gold eyeshadow at the Shu counter today……. I am in heaven.

**unfortunately the lipstick in the picture does not look like the lipstick color on natalia vodianova in that picture 🙁 it almost looks like a gift with purchase color??

    Hi Megan M!

It’s so nice to meet you. 🙂 When did you catch the movie? Didja go to a midnight screening, too?

Speaking of mascaras that don’t work, I’m that way about Maybelline Great Lash. Does nothing for me except smudge!

Oh, which gold did you see? I wish Shu used catchy names… it would make things so much easier to keep track of!

Girl, if I lived near you I’d so help you get that handbag. I have yet to own one, but aspire to someday (le sigh).

So, another friend who comments on here, Rowena, was wondering when this comes out in the UK. Do you know the release date?

Good luck on your last two exams. Study hard this weekend and think of all the makeup treats you’ll get when you’re done!

Wow. Thanks Karen, for the scope on Chanel Fall 2008 Makeup! I’m looking forward to the glossimers, eye quad, all the face powder, and Gold Fiction and Kaleidoscope. I can’t wait for July. Hopefully it will be released here in July too, otherwise I’ll have to wait till August…

This picture of Natalia Vodianova has half of her face in shadow, which is a little weird because I can’t see her other eye LOL. But she looks very beautiful, just like the one for Spring 2008.
