10 Things I Love About BECCA

February 10th, 2015 by Karen 39 Comments

10 Things to Love About BECCA

1. Cabrera Liner

becca cabrera

I can’t even think about this dual-ended liner without getting a little verklempt. With a metallic bronze on one end and a rich violet with deep brown and purple propensities on the other, it makes my heart sing when I talk about it.

When I finally get around to writing that 10-volume unabridged edition of My Makeup History (by Karen and Tabs), Cabrera will get its own chapter. It’s one of my greatest pencil liner loves of all time.

2. Flowerchild Blush

This long-wearing golden peachy pink is an everyday summer staple of mine.

I love this blush. There’s no other way to put it.

3. Their old-school makeup collection releases

Becca Cosmetics Balearic Love

They don’t do these as much as they used to, but if we took our hot tub time machine back a few years (OMG, I just saw a commercial for the sequel to this movie… WHY!?), we would see more frequent BECCA makeup collection releases, like 2011’s Halcyon Days (one of my faves) and 2012’s Balearic Love (those bronzy purple eyes, tho!!).

4. Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal

Becca Opal Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed 2

I’ve been wearing lovely Opal for years. This shimmery, peachy highlighter was my date to the Emmys last year.

5. Oh, the foundations…

becca radiant skin foundation product shot

So many formulas, so little time… And so many shades! What a wonderfully wide range.

BECCA’s foundations are beyond great if you like long-lasting full coverage. Back in 2012, Radiant Satin Finish was my ride-or-die.

6. Ombre Nudes Eye Palette

BECCA Ombre Nudes Eye Palette

BECCA’s Ombre Nudes Eye Palette may not light up the sky with fireworks, but its nude matte browns (most with cool gray undertones) blend like butter and make for bad-@ss blown-out smokey looks.

7. The old-school LE palettes, Part I: Halcyon Days

becca halcyon days palette

Speaking of BECCA palettes…for a couple years the Halcyon Days Palette was the one I always brought with me on vacations to warm places.

8. The old-school LE palettes, Part 2: Avalon

becca avalon palette

And I also have to give a shout-out to Avalon because it’s just so FREAKING BEAUTIFUL.

It was another one of my standbys back in the day, and I still use it sometimes too.

9. Lychee Beach Tint

becca lychee beach tint tube

This liquid tint is my jam, dawg! Don’t be scurred by how bright and hot pink it looks coming out of the tube. It turns completely natural looking on lips and cheeks.

I LOVE lounging around in this one on lazy days.

10. Damselfly Blush

becca halcyon days damselfly

Another BECCA blush love — this one a delicate peachy coral.

Damselfly looks delicious with coral lipsticks and glosses and warm golden eyes.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty BECCA addict,

Karen

Morning Karen! I knew the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal had to be mentioned! I love it so much, too! But I have the liquid version. 🙂

Have you tried the new Under Eye Brightening Corrector? I think I’m in love with it! 😀

One of the (many) things I love about your blog is learning about all these fantastic cosmetic companies I’ve never heard of before! I’m not a mall-person, so I rarely make it into the one somewhat local Sephora or even into Ulta–I get overwhelmed by all the options. Reading about & seeing all the amazing makeup makes me think I should suck it up & just go! Thank you for all your hard work & humor; I absolutely love checking in & seeing your new posts each day!

I really do need to get around to trying so many things from that brand, not least because of the shared name, heh.

Well. I am convinced that you could wear any cosmetics and look amazing- but this looks beautiful. Whyyy are there so many cosmetics companies I want to try that cost a pretty penny?

I have been wanting to pick up Opal ~ forever! It’s just a bit expensive, $38 and so I hum and haw over the price for a highlighter ..anyway, it’s in my “loves” list on Sephora – I’ll cave one day.

I’ve always wanted to try a BECCA foundation because their promo pics are just amazing. Those models have flawless skin or someone is uber talented with photoshop. Speaking of, holy cow on your gray shirt selfie. Dude, your makeup is like stop-in-your-tracks awesome. 🙂

Watermelon is my fave Beach Tint but it’s a bit too drying for my lips. I love it for a quick flush on my cheeks. Or, at least I did until… you know. HAHA!

I love Becca SSP and their Beach Tints! I used to love their Bird of Paradise gloss but it was D/C. They make some lovely blushes and shadows too. I love the Stick Foundation in Banana for color correction but they don’t make that anymore either. Their tinted moisturizer and primers were good too but then they changed the lineup 🙁 I cried.

I can’t say I’ve tried a ton of BECCA but I’ve liked everything I’ve tried. They’re a very solid brand. I will definitely be checking out that neutral palette, since cool-toned neutral palettes seem to be less common.

I don’t want to speak out of turn here, but I believe Becca halted their seasonal colour releases to focus on streamlining their makeup range. This meant a lot of their more colourful eyeshadows, lippies and blushes were sacrificed for the betterment of the brand. I also suspect this cull had to do with Becca parting ways with David Jones (think Macy’s) in Australia; Becca is now exclusively sold online and inside Sephora Sydney. I also found it interesting that Ulta is sold in both Sephora and Ulta in the States. It’s great that Becca is available to the masses in the US, but I really do miss wandering by Becca’s counter in Melbourne. Until we meet again, Becca.

    Hi Karen,
Have to agree with you on the Becca blushes. Since I’m looking at almost 5 feet of snow outside my window with more on the way I decided to do a little online shopping and ordered them in Songbird and Wild Honey. I also ordered some LM products I’ve been meaning to try but I’m most excited about the blushes. I cannot wait to get my greedy little hands on them tomorrow. My motto is if you can get to them, bring them to you. 🙂

      Hi Tracy,

Yay, I hope that you love the blushes! If you feel like it take a pic of you wearing it and send it to me. 🙂

What did ya get from LM? I need to swing by there one of these days to grab some cream shadow sticks…

I picked up the Mineral Powder and the Foundation Primer Radiance. I’ve finally found my HG skincare and my skin is really the best it’s ever been since my 20s. That being said I still like a little something to tone down a little pink I have in my cheeks and to perk up my skin since it’s wintertime. My base of choice lately has been a small amount of MACs Matchmaster blended out around the center of my face but I needed a setting powder with a little glow.

      Hi Majick,

You’ve gotta give them a swatch next time you’re at Sephora. Start with the blushes! 🙂

P.S. The lashes are by MAC. They’re the 36s!

I love Becca products. I own Opal highlighter it’s ok not my favorite but nice, beach tint soufflé in papaya/topaz (love it) and a crease brush that I really like.Don’t know why but for some reason I get Laura Mercier mixed up with Becca. Love the eye lashes you wore to the Emmy’s !

      Hi Denise,

Thank you! The lashes are by MAC — the 36s. They are long and lush and lovely. I do have to cut down the ends because they’re a little big. Other than that they’re perfect!

HELLO old-school LE Halcyon Days palette! Where in the h-e-double hockey sticks was I when this palette was released? It’s all sorts of gorgeousness! The cheek creme alone begs for a spot on my cheeks. Wonder if I’d have any luck chasing this one down- since it really is old? I signed up to receive email updates from this brand. Looks like it’s time to start snooping around to see what I can find.
