My Favorite Nude Lipsticks for Every Occasion and Budget

An old favorite nude lipstick, and a new favorite nude lipstick: YSL Rouge Volupte, and Maybelline Color Sensational

I’m going to guess that you’re like me and LOVE peeking into someone else’s makeup bag. Well, no need to ask, because today I’m going to share my go-to nude lipsticks. I always have these on hand. They’re my good luck charms, like my Tide to Go (because I’m too lazy to reapply dark lip colors after eating), and these will work for beauty lovers of every budget, yay!

Marcella will also be sharing her nude lipstick favorites in another post, and I can’t wait to see what she picks for hers.

For work: YSL Rouge Volupte “3 Beige Ultimate”

So this one is actually a good luck charm for me. I’ve worn this to every job interview, and so far I’ve had a 100% success rate with it!

I’m half-kidding because I haven’t had THAT many full-time job interviews, but I usually wear a long fitted black blazer with some smart pleated pants with this beauty of a lipstick in my pocket. It’s the YSL Rouge Volupte Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick in Beige Ultimate ($37). Even at that price point, I don’t think this lipstick disappoints. Heavy golden metal, not-too-sweet-watermelon scent, and amazing pigmentation in one swipe.

Infused with oils, it sits comfortably on my lips, and I barely notice I’m wearing it while talking to friends and interviewers alike. YSL wins the award for my top luxury lip choice.

For play: Maybelline The Buffs “Nude Lust”

Most people will recognize this color as the traditional iteration of a “nude” lipstick. The Maybelline Color Sensational Nude Lust ($7) from The Buffs collection is a smidge light with a pinky undertone. I reach for this on my (rare) nights out, and I smoked out my makeup to balance the lighter lips.

I’ve tried neutral nudes to coral nudes in the past, but I always come back to this one! I can’t say enough good things about the Color Sensational lipsticks by Maybelline as well. It’s dangerous walking by the Maybelline section @ Ulta because at least one of these lipsticks or one from the Dream collection always somehow make their way into my bag…

Swatches (Flash vs Non-Flash) of Maybelline Color Sensational Nude Lust and YSL Rouge Volupte Ultimate Beige
Swatches (flash vs. non-flash) of Maybelline Color Sensational Nude Lust and YSL Rouge Volupte Ultimate Beige. Ultimate Beige photographs a little lighter than it looks like in person. The “flash” swatch is more accurate.

I would love to know what makeup/lipsticks are sitting in your purse or pocket…and why those in particular?

See you in the next!

Anna

Nude Lust is my everyday shade! I’ve been through three tubes! Glad to see it getting some love 🙂

Yesss! I’m not sure what it was that made me grab Nude Lust in particular, but I’ve never looked back

These are both stunning on you! I actually bought my first ever YSL lipstick over the weekend (a nude). It’s the Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-In-Stick Lipstick in 44 Nude Lavalliere. I’ll definitely check out both of the lipsticks you have on next time I hit the mall!

I own more Reds than Nudes, but I opt for the Brown nudes on an every day basis.

I love nudes so I have a few faves. I’m light-tan with nuetral to olive undertones (Native American heritage). My favorite nudes are Maybelline Creamy Matte in CLay Crush, MAC Velvet Teddy, MAC Brave, NARS Audacious in Raquel, and NARS Chelsea Girls lipgloss. I really want the new NARS lip cover in Get Dirty because I have a feeling that would quickly become a favorite.

Me too, the new lip covers look SO great. Nars would be my #2 “luxury” lip choice–Raquel and Chelsea Girls are indeed amazing!

The YSL would be a closer choice for me. Both look great on you. For nudes, since I have very pigmented lips with a mauve/red-violet undertone, I usually go for shades people consider an MLBB shade like Bite Sake, Fresh Berry, Bite Pastille, or NARS Anna. I can do a semi opaque lighter gloss in the same color family to just mute my natural lip color some and provide shine.

I stray towards the MLBB shades as well (and LOVE Nars Anna–for obvious reasons hehe) Anything lighter than my lips makes me feel like a fool haha but I have slowly been growing on the idea.

They both look lovely! The Maybelline one looks like a great “true nude”.
I usually prefer peachy nudes, but I like a good beige gloss such as YSL Gloss Volupté in Nude Carat!

That Ultimate Beige looks amazing! My current favorite is Bobbi Brown Rich Color lipstick in Nude Rose, but I also have a Maybelline Color Sensational in Brunette that I also love.

Patina from Stila stay all day liquid lipstick is my go-to nude. It’s a very pretty, matte pink that’s long lasting and makes my lips feel soft.

These look beautiful on you, really perfect nudes! I have a mild-moderate nude lipstick obsession, but at the moment it’s Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Naked for me!

Hahaha mild-moderate. I have so many dark vampy lipsticks but I haven’t given myself the time to wear them enough! So the nude lipsticks have been my obsession lately as WELL!

You look so pretty! Love both of your lipstick picks! I realize we have very similar taste in makeup…I have both of these lippies but in different colors.

Both of those are really pretty on you. The YSL color is right up my alley for nudes.

For everyday, I just keep blotting papers, powder with mirror, a pencil sharpener, a makeup remover pen, lip balm, and I add my lip color and eyeliner of the day. For emergencies, my makeup bag also always has a sample of BB cream or foundation, a travel-sized mascara, a travel-sized eyeshadow primer, a black eyeliner, a nude lipliner, pinky-brown gloss, a small neutral blush, one of those tiny e.l.f. eyeshadow quads (Brownstone, at the moment), some fragrance samples, and a mini-brush set.

If money wasn’t an issue I’d go for Ultimate Beige, no doubt about that. But if we’re being realistic I say let’s go with Maybelline.

I own too many nude shades but I don’t wear them that often, I always go for a pink shade, especially now in spring! The YSL one looks great on you but unfortunately it’s out of my budget.
