If I were forced by some malevolent makeup entity to KonMari Method my makeup collection down to the barest of the bare bones — which, gawd forbid, I can’t even imagine doing because #makeuphoarders — the Viseart Neutral Matte Eyeshadow Palette would survive the brutal final cut, FO’ SHO.
It’s expensive, OK! It’s $80, which is why I put it off getting it for a really long time, but I finally took the plunge on the last Sephora VIB sale, so I got it 20% off, but even then I walked around the store for 30 minutes debating whether or not I should actually “go there.” I’m so glad I did, though, because THIS IS THE BEST NUDE/NEUTRAL PALETTE AROUND.
I’ve combo-ed the hell outta this palette, and hello, makeup voodoo! — somehow it always works out. Neutral Matte has 12 matte shadows, none of which are too cool or warm. These beige, brown, peach, gray, taupe and black shades are basically workhorse colors that work in an endless number of combinations and looks. You can use this palette for smokey eyes, daytime work looks, smoldering date night makeup… So many different things! You can even use some of the shades as eyeliner and to fill in your brows.
Can you find other matte shades like these elsewhere? Yeah, probably, but I can’t think of another brand that does this many of them together this well.
Ya see, mattes are tricky, as you know. A lot of them out there are chalky and powdery or otherwise hard to blend, and some of them end up across your cheeks or all up in the lunch lady mustache that sprouted on your upper lip overnight (isn’t it always that way, though?), because of the crazy fallout, since you had to do so much layering and cajoling to get them to actually show up.
But all of the mattes in this palette are consistently smooth and oh-so-pigmented.
And the blending!? Don’t even get me started. With a gentle sweep of a tapered brush, edges gracefully fade into a perfect gradient, and that’s with ALL OF THE SHADOWS. Seriously, you could be at day one of your makeup journey and have no blending experience under your belt, but with this palette, you’d do OK. Great even.
I can’t recommend it enough! It’s a must for makeup beginners and veterans alike, and ladies and gents of all ages. Basically, anyone with eyelids, a few blending brushes and the desire to do some kick-@ss looks.
Viseart, you did sooo good, because this palette is the definition of perfection.

Karen
Karen, this post is showing the ‘products provided for review’ disclaimer but in the post you mentioned purchasing it?
Is the disclaimer there in error?
Hi Pj,
Oops! Sorry. Yes, that was a accidental click on my part. I got this bad boy myself.
This looks a lot like the Sonia Kashuk matte palette sold by Target. Have you tried it, as well?
I was a diehard fan of the SK palette until I bought the Viseart. It’s still quite good, but not as pigmented or easy to blend–and the variety of shades are a little different.
And the white shadow can even be used to lighten any other shade layered – it is the perfect palette 🙂
I have not used this enough, and this post does inspire me to take it out of my stash again. 🙂 It is a gorgeous neutral palette.
I don´t need it, I don´t need it, I don´t need it, I…. You are right. Good mattes are hard to find!

It sure is pretty! Not sure what I would do with all those really light colors, though :-/

I’m sold. If the Queen of Neutrals likes it, I need to buy it. 🙂
