Dear Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils,
I love you.
I love you, I love you, I love you.
I have a sneaking suspicion that I don’t tell you that enough, so…I LOVE YOU.
I apologize if I hurt your feelings sometimes. When I haphazardly toss you into my makeup bag, it’s not because I don’t care. It’s not because I don’t want to spend more time with you. It’s because I’m so excited for us to get on about our day. I love spending entire days with you, which I know we’ll be able to do, since your luscious long-wearing formula hugs my lash lines and doesn’t let go.
The other day, shortly before I rimmed my lids with Mushroom, my favorite metallic taupe on account of the way it illuminates my brown eyes without hardly even trying (and that flash of blue from certain angles? GORGEOUS!), I was haphazardly grinding the tip in a pencil sharpener and zoning out like I’m apt to do while I’m putting on makeup that I know I can depend on, I thought, “Easy, Karen. Take it easy. Just because this is a quickie look doesn’t mean you have to hack away like a lumberjack without any muscle control.”
Oh, my gorgeous Glide-Ons, you’re always there for me, even when I treat you like ? poop. You deserve to be handled with kid gloves.
So, let me tell you why I ❤️ you so…
First, just when I’m ready to go all sad panda because I glance at the clock and realize that I don’t have any time left in my morning for eye makeup, your colors dance across my lids and lash lines like beams of light across the sky. These days, your neutral colors are my go-tos — basically, anything taupe, olive, gunmetal gold or bronze.
When I draw a swish on my upper and lower lash lines, followed by plenty of mascara, I actually don’t mind skipping eyeshadow. Ever since my semi-hooded lids situation started evolving into a full-on hooded lid sitch (such is life), complicated eyeshadow looks have become something of a pain, and it’s refreshing to not have to deal with precise placement and blending and making sure that everything looks even so I don’t walk outta the house with lids that look like garage doors…
Thanks to you, I just do a little liner, then peace out.
You also clean up so well. Remember that time not too long ago when Stash and I spent 11 hours hanging out? Man, that was a long day… There was also that minor meltdown involving tears, if I recall (growing pains!), but Stash was still there for me at the end of the day.
When it came time to finally remove my makeup that night, a few swipes from a cotton pad soaked with eye makeup remover was all we needed to say a happy goodbye.
And, of course, there are those times when I realize that, as much as I love wearing makeup, and I love how I feel in it, I’d rather be out in the world living my life than sitting in front of a mirror for an hour, blending three different shades of brown in my crease with windshield wiper movements. You make it easy for me to feel fabulous and put together when I take Connor to Creekside bakery after story time or to the ASPCA to visit cats.
Oh, Glide-On Pencils…I don’t know what I’d do without you. Thanks for always being my ride-or-die no matter what.
Love you. ?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’ve wanted to get a few myself for the same reason, semi-hooded garage doors. I’ve had my eye on mainline and rockstar for a while!

Karen, I’ve been reading your blog forever and even though I rarely comment, I have to this time. You are gorgeous naturally and I LOVE that you are so real about beauty. Some days (some months even) I don’t like wearing anything but something smudged around my eye. High-five for UD liners…I need to pull some out of my stash and wear them this weekend. Hey, maybe Stash. 😀

Scorch, Stash, and Mushroom are my favorite UD Liners. I love to use them on my lower lids for a pop of color.

Yes, Underground! Ultimate favorite. I like Mushroom too.

I love UD 24/7 liners too, but I find the green shades tend to migrate from my upper lash line in to my under eye area in a way that can’t be justified by calling it goth or punk rock. Any tips on that? Primer and setting spray don’t seem to prevent it, and the other colours I wear (Rock Star and Demolition FTW) stay where I put them.

Love all of these neutrals (and own them all) but UD needs to put out some of their Limited Edition liners as permanent. I’ve been trying to get Stray Dog liner for years after getting a mini version as a free gift ages ago.

Underground is the best colour!!!!!!

Hustle, Smoke and Empire are my most used colors.

You know Whiskey is my all time #1, so I’m totally with you on the UD love. 🙂 These days, I generally just prime and use a brown powder shadow as a liner because it’s softer looking. But I did pull out the old Whiskey this weekend when I knew I’d be out all day, sweating profusely. HAHA!

They just got Lucky back in stock, and as a coppery redhead it is my dream liner shade! I’ve seen people of all skin tones use it and it can look really pretty on the waterline, though I don’t ever feel comfortable putting products there. I how they keep this one back in stock forever.
