Oh, sugary golden brown nectar of the eyeshadow gods… I SEE YOU, URBAN DECAY. The hive’s buzzing ? over Naked Honey, the brand’s newest Naked palette, a festoon of gilded golds, tantalizing tans and burnished bronzes, with none of those challenging-to-wear reds or orange reddish brown eyeshadows from the past few years in sight.
*Breathes sigh of relief*
Finally, a neutral palette that actually looks…kinda neutral. ?♀️
The $49 powdered shadow palette flies into Sephora stores and arrives online September 13th, and then a little later on September 23rd to ulta.com, macys.com, nordstrom.com and belk.com; and to Ulta, Macy’s, Nordstrom and Belk stores a few days later on September 26th.
Queen bees who crave toasty tones will probably like that it hums with warm shades, and I’m buzzing over all those golden browns!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Props if you can remember when MAC did Naked Honey first. ?
P.P.S.

I am so insanely excited for this product. I’ve seen a lot of people asking why there aren’t more honey tones in there but I’m honestly wondering what honey they eat because this looks correct to me.
Do you like it?
Karen says
Hi Jade,
So far I’ve only done some quick arm swatches (been sick all week, bah, so I haven’t been wearing a lot of eye makeup), and judging from that, it should be a solid performer. The shadows have a good amount of “give” when I swipe a finger or brush across the pan, but they don’t seem to kick up a lot of powder, which usually for me means blending will be easy (crossing fingers), and I won’t have to build. Today I’m planning out my looks for next week, and it’s on my “to wear” list for the weekend and first half of next week, so once I get a better grasp on how it performs on lids I can weigh in with the specifics.
And LOL about the honey people eat… I just put some in my coffee, by the way.
Oh, and if you have any questions about the palette now please feel free to shoot them over! I should be at my computer all morning long. 🙂
Jade says
I feel you on not wearing makeup when you’re sick. I’m usually just rubbing Vaseline on my nose and rubbing my eyes like a tired toddler! I hope you feel better!!
I’ve never done honey in my coffee but now I want to try it!
What blush color would you wear with this? Do you think this will look good on light skin in the middle of winter (so November through April here I Bet maine basically)? How does it compare to Clinique teddy? And not related to makeup but did you make a decision about that Mama cat?
Karen says
Thank you! I’ve been drinking obnoxious amounts of water and taking zinc. Last year (Connor’s first year of preschool) taught me so much about how to handle colds when they hit.
Honey is REALLY good in coffee, btw. I usually don’t do sweetener in my drinks, but honey is very helpful for a sore throat (another thing I learned from being sick all the time last year).
So for blush, I’d probably do something on the warmer side, because this palette is SO warm that it might be jarring to do a cool or a neutral blush. Something like a warm coral, peach or bronze would work. Let me look inside my bag… OK, Clinique Ginger Pop would be good. Or MAC Gingerly, Melba, Peaches, Fleur Power or Peachykeen would be pretty. If you don’t like a ton of color on your cheeks, you could always do something like Hourglass Brilliant Nude.
You could totally do Naked Honey in the middle of winter *if* yellows/golds play well on your skin. I think that’s the key here.
And compared to Clinique Teddy, Naked Honey palette is MUCH warmer. Teddy is a true neutral, neither warm nor cool. I’ve had it in my bag for literally months! It’s SO GOOD.
We haven’t yet decided about Mama Kitty. I had Connor meet her a few weeks ago and she was more enamored with the kittens (which is to be expected). I’ve broached the subject with El Hub a few times, and every time we just end up talking about Tabs. I honestly don’t know if I’m ready, but life has taught me that you’re never going to feel ready. We do have a playdate with her this weekend, so we’ll see how it goes!
Thank you for asking. 🙂
What are you up to this weekend? Doing anything fun?
Jade says
This sounds ridiculous but I swear it works. My friend learned this trick from a homeopath when she was getting chemo treatments. The day you feel like you’re maybe getting a cold, thoroughly wet cotton socks, wrong them out, put them in the freezer for 10-15 mins, put them on right before bed, then put on wool socks (so you don’t get cold). The cold wet socks increase your blood flow which bumps up your immune system. Then do that for the next three nights.
I’ll be trying that tomorrow morning!! It def does soothe the throat.
I loveee hourglass brilliant nude, will have to check out the rest of the colors. I tend to go for corals for blushes or whatever free ones I get. Just now getting into it and am hoping for a solid hourglass lightning edit palette this holiday season.
I think it all definitely depends on my hair color as silly as that sounds. I have pretty neutral undertones, but leaning cooler rather than warmer. I find bronzes are good all year round though. I’ll probably still get it even if it’s more of a “Jade has a tan” palette for me. I’ve got green eyes and I think it’ll be fun!
I think I’ve told you this before but I thought I was ready for a dog and then had a week of meltdowns once I got him, and now can’t even picture him not being mine. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself though, and don’t compare whatever kitty you get to Tabs. I honestly think you are lucky if you get more than one feline soulmate a lifetime. I’ve got mine right now and he’s just the best.
Karen says
Seriously at this point I will try ANYTHING if it moves the cold through me faster. I don’t have wool socks, but I think I can snag a pair from El Hub. 🙂 Will try that next time a cold is coming on (which should be in about three weeks, which is how often it happened last year).
And thank you for sharing your story (and stories) with me about your pets. I am trying my best to keep my heart and mind open! I want our home to be filled with fur friends because I know we all have lots of love to give.
Mia says
This looks very pretty on your skin tone, which is similar to mine, so I’ll be treating myself to this beauty!
I haven’t been this excited about a palette in ages.
Which lipsticks would you wear these shadows?
Karen says
Hi Mia,
Happy Friday to you! You have a lot of lipstick choices, for sure. You could always do a yellowish brown for a monochromatic look. Peach or coral would be pretty, too (although that would read more as a summery look, but hey, life is short so why not wear summery makeup in the fall)? Any number of yellow-based pinks or yellowish-reds would be good. And if you can pull off orange (not always easy to do), that would look amazeballs too!

Karen, in that walk down memory lane (I was 2months PP from my first born baby!! awwwwwww), I had to notice that you’ve ALWAYS taken great photos! That is one of many things I admire about this site, and that’s your dedication to great photos. It takes me a hundred to get one that’s a’ight but you nail it with composition and clarity. You ROCK!! Also, I don’t know that this UD palette really says “honey” to me. When I think honey, I think ambers and warm browns, glistening golds. I don’t see that here but it is a nice neutrals palette on its own. Perhaps once we see a few looks with it (and darn it on that broken shadow there, it made me cringe!!), it’ll start to appeal more.
Karen says
Hi Angela,
Happy Fri-yay! Thank you for the nice compliment on the pics. If ya take one every day pretty much for twelve years, you pick up a trick or two! When I first started MBB, I had no idea how to take a pic, and along the way, I found out I really enjoy photography. It’s one of the many good things that’ve come from doing the site all these years.
How are you and your babies doing today? I just dropped off my little one and we actually had a smooth drop off! Transitions lately have been so challenging. Toddlers, ya know. So moody!

We’re a week into school way up here and the kids are adjusting ok. My daughter started Grade 1 and I think it was the hardest for her; she was so tired at the end of the days last week. I’m so glad that all three of my critters like school so far 😉 My son in grade 5 is really liking….data analysis they’re learning in math LOL. So neat to see where their interests take them for sure!

I remember MAC Naked Honey! I still have the perfume! It smells amazing so I barely use it so I can save it for eternity.
Karen says
I have it too! One of my fave fragrances from MAC. 🙂
Karen says
P.S. Remember how good the body wash and the body cream was from that launch?!
Susan says
This looks gorgeous! And I totally hear ya about all the hard-to-wear shades companies have been putting in “neutral” palettes for the last couple of years…so many shades in these palettes that I never even touch because they make me look like I’m having an allergy attack! Really looking forward to this one though, and can’t wait to read your review. 🙂
Erica says
This palette is a hard pass for me. Urban Decay has a terrible formula imo and definitely not worth the price. I think there are $15 palettes that perform better and the eyeshadows don’t disappear like Urban Decays and only Urban Decays do! I don’t mind a neutral palette (though I find the packaging more exciting than the inner contents tbh) but I’m not wowed by the color choices. It’s so behind the ball but I guess Urban Decay hasn’t been trend setting in over a decade lol. Sorry but this is most definitely a no go for me?

Okay that Tabs GIF is giving me life!

Karen ,
I just wonder w the more than 100 palettes I already have these honey ? colors must be there !
Rachel Runyan says
It’s actually much prettier than their promo pics suggested. I’m actually liking it quite a bit. I’m liking the honeyed browns and the metallics look gorgeous. I’m going to wait for reviews, but I’m considering getting this.
Gra says
Yes, I remember that MAC collection! The concept was cute.
The honey brought by Urban Decay looks tempting as well…
Anne says
That looks so incredibly beautiful – I would wear each and every one of them, with maybe the exception of Honey, which is a tad to yellow for my taste.
shelley says
Im so on the fence on this one. I love love me a Naked palette but I am not sure if its too neutral or just too yellowy (honey perhaps) for my liking. Im hoping you’ll post some looks so i can get a better idea…
Marcia says
I agree. I’m on the fence too with this palette. I recently purchased Colourpop’s yellow palette and thought maybe the colors would go well with it. Haven’t bought an Urban Decay palette in a long while. Hopefully Karen will post some looks of it soon. ?
