A Makeup and Beauty Blog Giveaway!

Giiirl, what are you doing up so early!?

Wait — it’s 8:30 already? Are you kidding me? How’d that happen?

Huh, I must have slept in, which can only mean one thing…

It’s time for COFFEE! 🙂

Aw, yeah. I’m just foolin’ around. I’ve actually already had my first cup. Tabs and I have been waiting for you. We’re here watching Bravo (Blood, Sweat & Heels) on the couch.

I want you to listen to me for a minute now, and it’s very important.

Are you listening?

OK, here goes: you are going to have one of the greatest days ever in the history of the world.

The history departments at Ivy League universities are going to start teaching students about today and just how awesome it really was.

I’m serious! — today is going to be epic for you. I know it for a fact (Tabs told me).

The best way to proceed is for you to enter this weekend’s giveaway. That’ll give the awesomeness of the day a good start…

I’m gonna go for a run on the treadmill now. Be back soon. 🙂

No I dont have a special mirror only the one stuck to my makeup drawer but I have poor lighting in the room and the mirror is round so I am still wondering how to achieve proper lighting. Its very hard to see blush in the mirror sometimes and when I’m out the door and see me in windows or something I am shocked how intense the colour got 😀

Lately I have been straightening my semi curly hair and then using dry shampoo for a few days so I don’t fry my hair. It seems to be working. I have also been trying to curb my indie nail polish obsession, although that’s not working out too well. Oh well, a girl can never have too much nail polish in my opinion. And last but not least, going through all my unused beauty products, from facial cleansers to makeup and throwing them away because they were just taking up space and cluttering up my shelves and drawers. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Long time lurker, first time poster. Love the blog. Karen has definitely changed the way I shop for makeup products. I feel so empowered in Ulta and Sephora with the blog at my fingertips. On a recent trip to Walgreens, I saw sale tags for Milani products. I immediately went to the blog to get recommendations for the Milani lip glosses. Swatches galore! I stood in the aisle for about 10 minutes reading and scrolling. Finally, purchased some glosses. Karen was so right abut the cream glosses. I have been wearing Bare Secret like it is going out of style! Thanks so much!!!

Ok, you wanted comments, so here goes: to answer one of your proposed questions: I do have a specific mirror for makeup – and the lighting is complete horse s**t! IDK why I use it. I really don’t. Now for a random comment: I just discovered my puppy is highly afraid of the vacuum cleaner. Like, I even move it (turned off) and she pee’s. Which doesn’t work out too well, since she likes to shred paper in the living room, on the carpet. Guest I’ll be spending my Saturday night sweeping and/or tweezering paper pieces off my carpet…

Today was a great day! I had enough time to let my hair air-dry to reduce the regularly blow-drying my hair when I don’t have enough time in the mornings. Since, I got to relax at home today, my face feels amazing without makeup!

It’s a nice size, not too big but not too small. I ordered the Stila In the Garden palette this weekend, happy birthday to me! Lol 🙂

So I’ve been trying to grow out my hair (I wanna get it to my waist!) but I can never seem to be able to. Once it gets around half-way down my back I have to trim off ~4 inches because of all the split ends 🙁 And the vicious cycle just keeps repeating! I’m trying to keep my hair routine to a minimum to keep from damaging it further but I have sneaking suspicion I might have to settle for shoulder-length hair

“Have you been doing anything different with your hair?”

Yes! My hair was badly damaged after dying it dark brown and then taking it back to my natural light blonde color. The ends were breaking off and large clumps of hair kept falling out. So two days ago, I went and got a haircut. My hairdresser cut off all the damaged hair. I actually hadn’t asked to have it so short – I wanted it to touch my shoulders. Instead it is right under my chin! I know it was necessary to cut it but I’m still mourning the loss of my long hair despite the damage 🙁

A style icon in your life?
    Kate Middleton

Do you have a mirror that you use specifically for applying makeup?
    A rialto magnification mirror

Do you remember the address of wherever you were living five years ago?
Yes it was the home I was raised in for the first 18 years of my life in Nebraska. I moved away 6 years ago and last month I found out it caught on fire. Thankfully no humans were hurt. It’s amazing how even years later you can have an attachment to something you no longer own.

i think iam the last girl who posting comment here.
i read all the comments above and i really love all the comments you all have posted here.

iam very proud to say that iam an artist. the friend of aesthetics… and most of the time iam spending my time with art. the creation of beauty is an art.

iam really impressive to this blog. because of the reason that the blog have the deep flow through the aesthetic view. that’s why i made this blog as book mark everyday i wish to move my gaze through the blog . actually iam not doing the same interest in my Facebook account.

The purpose of art is washing the dust of
daily life off our souls. and the make up and finishing for improve the beauty of our external appearances.
    this also an art…
A work of art is the unique result of a unique temperament. and the beautician also an great artist of external skin art.

iam a student of art and multimedia. but i love to be a great writer like Pablo Neruda. Shakespeare handled most of the serious topics but Neruda is about the romantic author.

all over the world i respects the beautiful things .. so right now you may thinking then what about ugly things.? the reality is through my eyes always everything have beauty. because iam an artist too more than a student.

thank you so much for give such a way to express my comment.

special thanks to the owner of the blog.

My entire life my goal has always been to get a haircut that looked great up or down with little to no styling in the morning. Finally, after 19 years of multiple cuts and different bangs and stylings, this goal has been realized! I love my swoopy, flippy hair and my side bangs and I love that all I have to do is wash it and let it air dry and with a couple flips and some curling here and there it’s done. I’m so happy to be able to say that I truly love the hair I have and don’t feel the need to change a thing!

Though I haven’t shampooed yet, so no comment yet on how long it lasts. After reading some reviews, I used less of the treatment than the instructions suggest. I think that was a good move.

I have been doing something different with my hair! My hair has some body and curl to it, but blows out straight easily. Sleeping on it in a bun just makes it messy and frizzy, but I’ve found that putting it up in a bun on Day 1, still damp with some Aveda curl cream and my bangs sideswept, means that on Day 2 I have lovely loose waves (and the evening of Day 1 if I’m going out, like yesterday), and Day 3 it goes up in a messy pony. Just some Dry Remedy Oil on Day 2 to calm my curls and a little dry shampoo around my hairline on Day 3 and I’m good to go! 🙂

I’ve taken to maintaining dark red peek-a-boo streaks in my hair (it’s black), and it’s a lot of fun 🙂

Yes! I have been doing something differently to my hair. I have been adding honey to my rinse out conditioner. It is supposed to be great for moisture, and it really has helped. Also, growing tired of being able to find someone who knows how to cut my curls, I have been cutting it by myself, and have had nothing but compliments that last couple days ♥

I haven’t changed up my hair in awhile. I see pictures of cute shorter styles, but they very rarely look good on me, so I pretty much keep it longer.

I’ve never done anything too crazy with my hair. Just dyed various shades of dark brown and black and I’ve done caramel, blonde, and red highlights.

I’ve actually been trying to wash my hair less since I was washing it every day and I think I was drying out my scalp because it was starting to overproduce oil.. TMI, i know!! I also started using a homemade apple cider vinegar rinse to help with my scalp. so far so good! only down side to the ACV rinse is that you smell like vinegar until your hair is completely dry… 🙁

Hello! Thanks for your amazingness with your reviews and info of makeup! I wanted to join the contest to get the Sephora certificate, for that I can tell you a million things, but basically I wanted to let you know how much I love makeup, I started using makeup very young, yet I always have been careful about choosing my products. I think most of us girls always think we have a flaw, maybe the nose, maybe youre hair, it could be anything, (in our crazy minds) with time I’ve learned about discovering my beauty, and the only way I achieved this was while I realized that ever girl and woman are beautiful an unique, whenever I judge myself, I was so hard to me, until one day I woke up. I don’t believe in makeup as a tool to change you you are, but as a helper to drive attention to your beautiful features. Now I don’t have large and voluminous lips, and now I cant believe how much I love red & pink lips thanks to the stains! I never thought! I tried the Maybelline markers, yet not my favorite, then the Victorias Secret Pouts and they are too pink and glsossy, now my favourites are the Revlon Just bitten Balm, and I want to bad to get the Sephora lip tars.

I also wanted to give a few tips to the girls reading this whenever it comes to hair that I discovered, for curly hair you can prepare your own styling gel with linseed. Put half of a cup of linseed in 1 cup of water in a pan, heat it until boiling, you will see that with time it will turn sticky, once you do that take the seeds out and ready. Wait until it gets colder, and you can save it on your refrigerator. The most thick it gets, you will get more hold, you can even used it for crazy hairdos if you ticken it until getting a serum like potion. This will leave your hair amazing, with body, shiny, and soft. Everyone will as you what you did!

Please give me the Sephora certificate.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
