Unsung (Hair) Heroes: Revlon Essentials Maximum Hold Extra-Thick Elastics

July 10th, 2018 by Karen 16 Comments

revlon maximum hold extra thick elastics
If you have thick, heavy or otherwise wild, unruly hair, these will make you believe in unicorns (again).

My stylist buddy Alis likes to joke that I have enough hair on my head for three people (although, for the #officialmakeuprecord, I don’t have as much hair as I did pre-baby), but it’s not all kittens and rainbows, because having a decent amount of hair comes with its own challenges, like destroying every single hair elastic within striking distance.

When I’m putting my hair up in a ponytail, most elastics either break, or get stretched out so far that they look like the granny panties you should’ve thrown out THREE YEARS AGO (but still continue to wear when you’re on your period), and are thus rendered utterly and completely useless.

There’s also the whole “ponytail falling out while I’m merely existing” thing, which is a pain.

At HIIT class last week, I decided that enough was enough. I. Am. Done. Pulling up my ponytail every third burpee or switch lunge.

DUUUUUDE…Revlon has this little packet of miracles called the Maximum Hold Extra-Thick Elastics, which just changed everything in one fell swoop. It’s the strongest, thickest, sturdiest and most bass-@ass hair elastic I’ve ever worn.

Normally, I have to double-up elastics to keep my hair from falling all over the place, but in last night’s HIIT class, I used just one — ONE! — and my ponytail stayed perfectly in place through 60 minutes of intense jumps and sprints. Not once did I have to readjust.

When I took off the elastic before showering, I noticed two things. First, that my ponytail was in the exact same place it was when I first put it up. Second, that the elastic wasn’t stretched out at all. Not one teeny, tiny bit.

I also can’t get over how affordable they are. Three bucks for 15 of ’em!

So, so, good, you guys!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Thank you for this! My hair NEVER stays put in a ponytail. I’m going to track these down.

I’ve given up on ponytails and french/dutch braid my hair when I am working out! Works a treat, promise!

Ya know, I’d do that if my hair would actually stay in place. I’ve done dutch braids in the past and my hair still finds a way to bust out of them, LOL!

Haha, sounds like you have some kind of superhero hair! I have fine hair, but I will recommend these to one of my friends who has super thick hair. And bonus that you can find them at the drugstore!

Yes! I hope she likes them. I’ve tried every brand and this is the best one. 🙂

Happy Wednesday, by the way. How’s work going today?

Lots of conference calls at work today, but that’s not a bad thing. It helps the time pass quickly. I hope Tabs cuts you some slack during the summer months. 🙂

Haha, I wish! Both he and Connor are in BFF mode lately. Where she goes, he goes. We just read some books on the couch, and Tabs was happy to supervise by chillin’ on my head. LOL

My hair is short – like SHORT – and not very thick so no ponytails for me. But I do use those elastics to keep electric cords on things like my iron and hair dryer neat when I’m not using them and something durable like this will work better than the little ones I normally use that stretch out and/or break after a while. The price is right. I can afford to get some of these! Thanks for the tip!

Hey, thanks for the tip! My dancer daughter goes through hair elastics like you wouldn’t believe, and our favorite Goody brand ones got discontinued years ago. We haven’t been able to find any that could tame her crazy thick hair since. I will be on the hunt for these.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
