Yoga breathing right now so I can slow my roll…because my hair hasn’t been this glossy and soft and full in forever! — and now I’m ready to make it rain over at Rahua.
BREATHE, KAREN, BREATHE.
So, friend. You’ve probably seen Rahua around, yeah? Say it with me: “raw-wah.” It’s this hella hydrating line of of hair products (and some body things, too), and they’re carried at SpaceNK and Sephora.
The packaging has a silhouette of a lady with long locks drawing a bow and arrow (very Katniss Everdeen), and everything in the line has an ancient ingredient found deep in the Amazon rainforest called rahua oil. As the story goes, the women of the Ecuadorian Quecha-Shuar tribe have been using rahua oil for centuries to moisturize their hair and skin, because it is THE STUFF.
I’ve been bouncing back and forth between travel sizes of their different shampoos, conditioners and hair treatments, which are $9 each, and have had a series of epic hair days. Like, Oribe-caliber exceptional.
The Classic Shampoo and Conditioner (which also doubles as a leave-in), the Hydration Shampoo and Hydration Conditioner, the Color Full Hair Mask and the Founder’s Blend Hair & Scalp Treatment leave my wavy color-treated (and slightly dry at the moment) hair shiny, silky soft, bouncy and hydrated.
The only things I feel just so-so about are the Color Full Shampoo and Conditioner, because they aren’t as moisturizing as the other products (and moisture is my main motivation at the moment because the pool has been doing a number on my ends), but everything else I’ve tried from the line has me *this close* to forsaking all the other hair products sitting in my shower.
It’s fascinating to me how Rahua smooths frizzes, adds loads of glossy shine and moisturizes, all while removing all of the hair styling stuff I like to pile on, and it does this all without drying or weighing down the strands. Plus, the products don’t contain silicone or sulfates!
How do they do it? Must be the rahua oil.
It’s a mystery I’m happy to live with, even though the prices of the full-size bottles are on the spendy side, between $34-40 for a 9.3-oz. bottle of shampoo or conditioner, and $62 for a 7-oz. bottle of the Hair Mask.
If that’s too champagne wishes and caviar dreams for your budget right now, consider the sample sizes to try, or venture into your nearest SpaceNK to at least sniff the stuff, because I think the blend of nut, mint and plumeria notes is heavenly.
❤️❤️❤️ out of 5 hearts for the Color Full Line, and ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 5 out of 5 hearts for everything else.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

What is a rahua? Is it a nut oil??

OMG, Karen! I just saw the news about the horrible fire in Redding. Is El Hub’s family ok? Cannot believe how hard California has been hit this year. Hope everyone is out and safe. My prayers are with you and yours.

Hi Daphne,
My in-laws moved back to Hawaii a couple months ago so thankfully they’re OK, but we’ve yet to hear from anyone else. My hubs just checked the fire zone and it looks like the house he lived in high school is in one of the neighborhoods where the fire is spreading. 🙁 Thank you for checking in; that’s very kind of you.

The lack of moisture especially in my ends really bothers me at the moment, my hair is so frizzy from my ears down.

Rahua! I’m always down to try a new magic hair ingredient. Lord knows my brittle hair needs love so on she goes to the must try list! Thanks Karen!

I’m so glad you found this – good hair days are the best. 🙂 I suspect if it’s moisturizing for you, it would be more like a trip to grease-land for me. But you never know – and rahua sounds intriguing. PS Ditto on Daphne B’s comment above. I hadn’t heard. I hope all is well!

I got a travel size of the hydration shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo definitely either adds moisture or doesn’t strip my hair which I like. I’m not fond of the scent though. It’s a little too fruity, sweet for my taste. Luckily it doesn’t stick around. I feel like the conditioner isn’t worth it though. It’s not any more moisturizing than the L’Oreal Evercreme conditioner I’m using from the drugstore. So I’ll probably re-up on the shampoo but save on the conditioner.
Karen says
Oh really? I loved the conditioner, but maybe that’s because I followed up with the Founder’s Blend cream afterwards.

So Karen, is Oribe worth every penny it costs like I w heard so much? Which would you prefer between the Oribe or the Rahua?
Karen says
Hi Christy,
Depends on the product. I love, love Oribe. (Don’t always love the price, though!) What I love about the line most is their shampoo/conditioner for color (doesn’t strip, cleans thoroughly, moisturizing), their root cover up spray (UGH so good), their dry shampoos and their stylers. Top notch. I haven’t tried the styling products at Rahua so I can’t comment on if they’re any better, but I do have to say that their shampoo and conditioners (with the exception of the color treated line, which I wasn’t super impressed by), are just as good as Oribe. I think what might be the deciding factor for you (and for most people) will be how you feel about fragrance. Oribe is heavily scented; Rahua has a pleasant scent, but it’s not as in your face, you know? I realize this is rambly but I just got back from an afternoon at the park in the sun and I’m a little loopy and hungry, LOL! But if you still have questions… I’m here for ya, girl!
