YSL Gloss Pur: Hello, Hibiscus!

May 26th, 2010 by Karen 56 Comments

ysl gloss pur

Things I wish I had fewer of: chin hairs, Nutella cravings, and embarrassing outbursts.

Things I wish I had more of: pairs of shoes with four-inch heels, free time, and colorful yet low-maintenance lipglosses.

I may be blind as a bat without my glasses and shorter than most middle schoolers, but at least my lips look good thanks to Yves Saint Laurent Gloss Pur in #9 Pur Hibiscus ($30). 🙂

Loaded with shine, this fuchsia cutie is one of four glosses in the YSL summer makeup collection (NOTE: YSL’s rolling all four shades into their permanent line). Its semi-sheer, easy-to-wear color means not having to worry about gloss edging past your natural lip line or accidentally smearing all over your face.

The texture feels thick but isn’t sticky, and despite an unusual flavor and scent (like black pepper and sweet watermelon, but in the BEST possible way), it’s a sensory success.

NOTE: Yep, pepper and watermelon, but I think it works in an odd bacon-and-chocolate kinda way.

For the price of a case of Nutella, #9 Hibiscus makes me feel full-on fancy, embarrassing outbursts aside. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

You might like YSL Gloss Pur in #9 Hibiscus if…

  • You don’t mind the steep price
  • You like semi-sheer pigments
  • You like low-maintenance lipglosses
  • You don’t mind the strong (but oddly pleasant) flavor and scent

Words that haunt me..

“fuchsia”

I know how to spell it correctly, but whenever I’m typing my fingers insist on spelling it “fuschia” instead. EVERY TIME! I was visibly straining to type it correctly up there, like the universe didn’t want it to be spelled that way.

“Don’t do it, Karen! Please. NO! Don’t type the “c” before the “s”. Oh, gawd, she did it! WE’RE ALL DOOMED!!!”

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Oh this looks so wonderful on you!!! Beautiful color! Unfortunately I hate the scent of YSL lip products..
Aw, Tabs looks so great, just look at him posing!
And btw I never know how to pronounce fuchsia, in my language it’s written similarly (fuksija) so the pronunciation shouldn’t be that off but I always end up saying something like ”fusion”!

It’s pronounced “few-SHA” in English. Which language is your native language? I want to say Polish…

If you get Revlon by you, they make a Creme Gloss called Fiercely Fuchsia that’s the same color as YSL. Revlon’s is more pigmented and doesn’t have a real strong fragrance. I can’t remember if it has more product or not. I don’t have it next to me.

It’s Croatian, but yes, a Slavic language like Polish, just Polish is even more complicated than Croatian…
We do have Revlon, I’ll have to check it out!

          You’re welcome!

P.S. The tube is black with a clear part under the cap that shows the color. It’s works like Stila lip glazes.

Wow – that’s what it looks like without a liner? Interesting but I have a feeling this is going to give me a bad reaction on my lips. I had to return a YSL lipstick back to Sephora because it irritated me within hours of wearing.

Oh, to be 5’8″. That will be the day for me. Being short is overrated man, especially when it comes to posing in family photos when your entire family is taller by three inches to a whole foot. Be glad that you can reach the top shelves at home or in the grocery store because I can’t! It’s a good thing I’m so creative or I’d never get anything from the top shelves!

YOU! Why do I not see your super-fierce bangs in your icon? *raises brows and taps nails loudly on desk* 😛

(Being short def. is overrated. Do you stack other boxes, or do you climb onto a lower shelf and hope no one sees you?)

(I do the latter… and yes, I have been caught :o)

I haven’t decided to change the photo on this e-mail!!! So sue me. :p I’m being lazy.

When I have to grab something from a high shelf, it’s a combination of standing on my tippy toes on the bottom shelf and do the “Zena Food Snatch” technique. Basically, I sweep my arm back and forth until the box comes to a place where I can swipe it. If that doesn’t work, I look for a large, long object to reach it. I’ve never been caught. It could be I’m really good at it.

If I’m at home, I climb onto the countertops. Using chairs is doing it the normal way and, therefore, lame. It wasn’t unusual for my mom to wake up at 6 AM and find that I was sitting eating my breakfast of Cheerios when I was three years old. I woke up at 5 AM after my dad left for work. I wasn’t going to wait for my mom to wake up to get me my darn Cheerios!

LOL! You’re definitely the master of the “Zena Food Snatch” 😛 I used to do the awkward hop-and-sweep, but gave it up in favour of climbing. (If you hop too much, you end up all woozy… and that’s when you get caught by tall people with disapproving faces. They’ll never understand!)

I climb onto countertops as well 😀 I’ll do you one better, though… so does my mom! (I got it from her, not because I was desperate for Cheerios 😉 Tbh, I couldn’t stand breakfast cereal until just a few years ago. It was so dry, and gross, and dryyyy!)

I love how our kitties always love to BITE BITE BITE and then lick lick lick like “ohhh I love you so muchhhh.” You’re still in shock like, “YOU BIT ME!” And the kitty has already moved on. “I licked it afterwards! You can’t get mad!” What a handsome boy Tabs is. Makes me miss my little kitties. They’re finely little one year olds!

The babies are just fine! They’re starting to catch their first lizards, meeses, and birds so my mom is all distressed haha. Things are just dandy though! I’m in Colorado all summer taking summer classes, so it’s a wee bit lonely, but I have so much work to do that it’s not too bad. Gives me plenty of time to read my favorite beauty blog! I keep teasing that I want to get a kitty here, but I travel so much that it just wouldn’t be fair. Oh well!

My puppy is so easy to take photos of ..but my older dog . Forget about it ! >.< Though i think it was easy to take pictures of her because she was filling sick 🙁
A friend of mine is very proud of her height …you couldn't just say she was almost 5' 2" you had to say she was 5' 1/1/2" ! I'd always tease her about it when the topic of height ever came up. Especially when we had to go over "the wall."
Oh, and were you really bored or do you really just love this lipgloss ? Lol . It's really lovely but i don't have the dough and i could never pull off such a bright colour !

I learned an important gloss lesson yesterday – when it’s 95 degrees outside and you can’t possibly stop your face from looking like a sweaty mess, it’s not a great idea to put on your Superbalm. It makes your husband say “um… wow…. very… um… shiny? sticky?”.
