What Would a Vampire Think of Bliss Blood Orange and White Pepper Body Butter?

July 25th, 2009 by Karen 19 Comments

What would a vampire think of Bliss Blood Orange and White Pepper Body Butter ($35)?

Would they scoff at the price and curse the Bliss marketing team’s misleading use of the word “blood”? More importantly, do the undead even moisturize?

Perhaps they should…

Unlike fangs, it’s subtle

I can’t speak for Vampire Bill, but I like a good body butter after scrubbing down with Bliss Blood Orange and White Pepper Sugar Scrub, and the two products combined make for a pleasant budget Bliss Spa experience at home.

As far as I can tell, the Bliss Blood Orange scent’s subtle mix of blood orange (surprise!), spicy white pepper, coriander and white musk doesn’t vary among the different products in the fragrance line, and the body butter smells just as divine as the scrub.

The scent is subtle (but still noticeable) — a nice break from heavily scented body lotions (aka Black Amethyst).

You notice it’s there, but it doesn’t make you smell like a walking glass of O.J., which also means it plays nicely with other fragrances.

Gimme, gimme moisture

Texture wise, Blood Orange + White Pepper feels thick and rich and isn’t as greasy as most other body butters, but I do notice that it leaves a slight film on my skin. It’s not sticky or annoying, but girls with normal to oily skin may find it a little too heavy (for lighter hydration, check out $29 Lemon and Sage Body Butter Lite instead).

As for the price, vampires may not have to worry about earthly concerns like money, but among the living, $35 is a lot to pay for a body butter, even one as good as this.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it pops up on sale. 🙂

Bliss Blood Orange and White Pepper Body Butter

Price: $35 for an 8.5-oz tube
Use: A lightly scented, highly moisturizing body butter splurge
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+

You might like Bliss Blood Orange and White Pepper Body Butter if…

  • you like rich, thick body butters with a citrusy scent,
  • your alligator-dry skin needs a ton of moisture, and/or
  • you’re in the mood to splurge.

Hello, awesomeness!

My friend Jackie sent this video, and I think it’s the most awesome wedding entrance, ever. El Hub, if you’re reading this, I have some ideas for when we renew our vows. 🙂

Karen

OMG Karen, that video was so good, I showed it to my entire family, haha!

I’ve never used any Bliss products, but I think for that price I’m sticking with Bath and Body Works. Good review, as always, though. 🙂

Have a good weekend. Keep us updated on the move! 🙂

      Hi Elena,

Yay! I hope your family enjoys it. Watching it makes me smile! 🙂

Bliss products are pricey, but they totally deliver. Maybe if you get a Sephora gift certificate sometime you can splurge. 🙂

      How’s your Sunday going?

This morning the entire wedding party was on The Today Show performing the dance on the Plaza. I’m about to watch the video online right now at http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt=en-US&vid=352e99b8-d6e3-4f67-87cf-d8e7580382f1. I think this is what all weddings should be like!

I *love* that body butter! I adore Blood Orange and White Pepper for spring and summer months, and in the winter I crave the warm comfort of Vanilla Bergamot! Yeah, it’s a splurge, so I don’t have Bliss’ fabulous body butters on my shelf as often as I like, but I keep my eyes open for sales and value sets!

What a great idea for a wedding! Hubby even said that he would do it, and he loves dancing about as much as Vampire Bill loves the sunlight! 😉 The wedding I was in last weekend had a sort of musical/play intro before the ceremony too… I was a flower! 😀

      Hi Glosslizard,

I love the limited edition stuff Bliss does for winter… I hope they bring the Snow scent back this year. 🙂

LOL, I can imagine you and your sweetie rockin’ out and walking down the aisle!

Omg..wow. That wedding video is funny and cute. Orange and pepper, a weird combination. But it must smell really nice.

      Hi Saku,

Yeah, it’s an odd mix that I wouldn’t think would work, but it does!

      Hi Bomi,

I’m totally on team VB! Have you read the books that the series is based off of? They’re pretty good.

      Hi Marisol,

Ha! I just saw that on Yahoo. Funny how I was just talking about blood oranges yesterday… weird!

I kind of want to order it, too. I wonder if they’ll have different versions. I’ll take an O positive on the rocks, please.

Hmmm I cannot imagine Vampire Bill smelling nice. I don’t know how Sookie stands him. Eric Northman looks yummier. 😀

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
