Wash the Blues Away with Origins Gloomaway

December 5th, 2008 by Karen 10 Comments

Earlier this week I was feeling blue and tried a bunch of different things to pull myself out of my funk.

Like…

I tried exercising more often than usual (endorphins, heed my call!) and even dug out my old aromatherapy candles, LOL!

They definitely helped, but what really cheered me up were these scented Gloomaway body products from the Blue Skies Ahead holiday gift set by Origins ($29.50).

Like the other products in the Gloomaway line, they smell like yummy grapefruit, and the company claims the scent creates a sense of “optimism and contentment.”

Sign me up. 🙂

I think the products smell more like a combination of grapefruit and sweet orange rinds than straight grapefruit alone, but more importantly the scent isn’t artificial or sugary at all. Oh, and it’s subtle — not overly citrus-y like Pledge cleaner, yuck!

The Blue Skies Ahead set comes with a nice selection of products, making it a good way to try out a few different products from the popular line…

  • Body-Buffing Cleanser. Gently scrubbing with this in the shower softens rough skin patches but doesn’t rub my skin raw. It lathers up into a rich foam and, like the other products in the line, smells divine. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

  • Body Wash and Bubble Bath. This gel creates so many big, frothy bubbles… It’s like a bipedal bubble bath!Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

  • Body Souffle. The souffle provides medium-weight daytime moisturization for parched skin. I’ve liked using it on my hands and arms throughout the day because it absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave an oily film. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

The set comes packaged in a cute green and white cylinder gift box. If you know someone who could use a little cheering up this holiday season, Blue Skies Ahead may be able to help.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

So the scent of grapefruit can apparently create “a sense of “optimism and contentment”.” Does eating the grapefruit (instead of just smelling it) have the same effect? Otherwise, the set looks great. I’ll definitely check it out sometime soon!

I absolutely agree with the uplifting power of grapefruit. During the summer I would always get those Starbucks Sorbettos in pink citris (grapefruit flavor) and it perked me up like nothing. Guess I’ll have to stop by Orgins soon.

Oh man, that sounds awesome. Right now, my I’m getting my temporary lift by eating a Cutie and then squishing the peel so I have orange oil all over my hands for an hour or so, but this stuff in a bath sounds way better!

Hi Karen. I was blue earlier this week too. Maybe I’ll get the body wash because I’m too lazy to moisturise or scrub my body. I hope you feel better already. 🙂 I bought a Chanel Aqualumiere lipstick, the famous cle de peau concealer (which costs a bomb) and an Anna Sui white compact mirror yesterday because the department store was having sale. I feel much better. 😉

So cute! I read somewhere that wearing grapefruit perfume can make people think that you’re younger. I hope you’re feeling better now. When I’m down, watching Ellen and dance with her always make me laugh.

This sounds really nice. I love all things grapefruit/citrus scented. I remember way back in the day Bath and Body Works had a LE Summer Grapefruit scented line that I loved. I never stocked up and I definitely should have.

Cool little gift set. I stopped at the Originis counter this weekend and got some goodies. So far, I am enjoying them.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
