Urban Decay’s New and Improved Big Fatty Mascara

March 20th, 2012 by Karen 37 Comments

urban decay big fatty mascara

Contrary to the rumors circulating in the kitty modeling world, the new Urban Decay Big Fatty Mascara ($20) was NOT named after Tabs. 🙂

Although I can see why some would believe that to be true…

“I’m too husky for this box.”

If the Big Fatty Mascara name rings a bell, you’ve probably seen it before. It’s been a part of the Urban Decay line for years (in the psychedelic red and yellow tube). UD just revamped it and gave it a new outfit.

BFM promises a bit of everything — volume, length, definition, curl hold and jet-black color in a lightweight formula.

Urban Decay also traded the original Big Fatty’s over-sized Diorshow-esque bristle brush for a minimalist approach. The sleek new brush head is designed to fan out lashes.

And those little nubs really get in there! When I used this today, my fringe looked s u p e r s t r e t c h e d out.

By the way, if you love the original Big Fatty, you still have time to stockpile. It’s still available on urbandecay.com.

I never gave the original Big Fatty a try, but I like what I’ve seen from this new version so far, especially the thickness I get from it at the base of my lashes.

This BFM has potential, and I plan to keep it on standby. I wish it lengthened my lashes and held the curl from my lash curler a little better, areas where I think my combo with Cannonball and Buxom has it beat, but Big Fatty should do just fine when I want to wear lashes a few notches up from natural.

PRICE: $20
AVAILABILITY: Coming soon to Sephora, Ulta and select Macy’s stores
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+

WARNING: Three Twins Lemon Cookie Ice Cream is dangerously good

Okay, new food obsession. 🙂 I picked up a pint of Three Twins Lemon Cookie Ice Cream from Whole Foods the other day expecting it to last longer than two days.

TWO DAYS! That’s how long it took me to finish.

Oh…it tastes like ice creamy Girl Scout Savannah Smiles cookies. Yum.

I don’t know if it’s just a Bay Area thing (I hope not!) because Three Twins does have a couple of ice cream shops in the area.

Anywho, enough about cold things. It’s the first day of spring! I hope you had a lovely Tuesday.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I’m a little sad they ditched the psychedelic packaging, it just worked so well with the tongue in cheek name 🙂
However I do like the results I see and the fanned out lashes idea, as well as the easy to maneuver brush. I don’t need lengthening, my lashes are long enough that they hit right below my oily browbone, which dissolves any and all mascaras leaving black smudges, stupid oil!
I’m always keeping an eye out for new mascaras, I may have to splurge on this (with my Macy’s discount of course lol) It’d be my first non drugstore mascara purchase!

Lemon cookies are yummy! I like to think of them as the “healthier cookie” lol, because they’re not coated or chock full of chocolate, which is usually what I’m drawn towards.

You’re so lucky to have long lashes! I would love to have mine hit my brow bone, le sigh. 🙂

BTW, I tried the Lancome Liner Design yesterday. Have you worn it yet? Do you like it?

Yay! How did you like it? Have you seen the teal one, so pretty! Ive actually (despite my love of color) only tried the black, but I really like it! I used a different brush that we have hanging around though, but I found it applied easily and opaque. I keep meaning to try the other colors, but my cosmetics manager has a sharp eye for people playing with makeup lol 😛

I’m also very curious to try the grey as a smokey eye base!

      Hi Melissa,

They’re Real seems to have a slightly glossier finish. Other than that they’re pretty similar.

I remember trying Black Cherry mascara years ago, and liking it. I’ll try to grab some on their website.

Okay, why did you have to tell me about an ice cream sold at my second fave supermarket? You know I am a weak person, Karen. 😛

Haha, I’m sure Tabs didn’t appreciate your joke (but really, all cats have this wrong idea about themselves. They always think they’re super tiny and can fit in any box. Guess what? That is so not the case)!

This one is great! If a mascara holds curl then it’s my thing. I’ve always wanted to try Cannonball after seeing it here, but this one looks even better (but no, I never want my lashes to look natural. For me personally natural means nonexistent fluff, and it’s not fab)!

If you’re looking for curl hold definitely check Cannonball out. It’s great for that!

I remember being all over that style brush when Diorshow came out! These days I’m loving the more compact brush heads, though.

Oh, how did I know that Tabs was going to somehow be connected to this name? I’m glad he has thick skin over that husky frame. HAHA!

The mascara looks like it does give you some nice volume at the base. That’s always the highest priority for me. 🙂

The mascara really defines your lashes in a very natural way. Gotta love cats and boxes btw! They are more excited about them than any fancy toy!

In Tabs’ defense, he is NOT a ‘big fatty.’ He is big-boned and very muscular. This is per my huge Maine Coon, Taz (aka Moose). I looove big cats! They aren’t delicate, so it’s hard to break them 😉 Also, the mascara looks great on you, Karen!

I’m loving the new BFM, it doesn’t dry out as fast as the old one because of the new brush head. Does anyone else have a super struggle getting it off at the end of the day though? I’m using a seperate eye makeup remover, then Purity and it still takes a few rounds to get off! LOL
