Urban Decay Lip Junkie Lip Gloss: Giving Thin Mints a Run for Their Money

July 13th, 2010 by Karen 36 Comments

[SHIVER!] If I’d known the kind of havoc a cookie could wreak, I would have put down that first Girl Scout Thin Mint. Every season I gobble ’em up like they’re going out of style, and I rue the day the first one came out of the oven.

Today I can’t help but ask, “Has Urban Decay been talking to my muffin top?” I ask because I think their new Lip Junkie line of fall glosses ($19 each) smell EXACTLY like Thin Mint cookies (they also taste kinda like ’em too).

Coincidence? I think not!

Urban Decay cooked up these 11 moisturizing non-sticky shades to plump lips over time. One week in and I can’t report Angelina Jolie lips yet (or any noticeable increase in lip plumpness, for that matter), but that may be too much to ask of a gloss.

The main reason I wanted to try these wasn’t large, luscious lips (although I intend to keep testing them). What I was really interested in were the colors. Of the ones I’ve tried, Crush (a creamy hot pink), Wallflower (a creamy neutral pink), Runaway (a shimmery coral) and Perversion (a shimmery dark berry) pack the most pigment.

All of the colors spark a slight cooling sensation, which I’ve found refreshing on hot days, and last about two hours on my lips before requiring another application.

I feel like a few of the colors look similar, but if you’re into sheer shades, a vanilla mint taste/fragrance and don’t mind having to reapply throughout the day, you might want to check these out. Available at Sephora stores and online at sephora.com. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

You might like Urban Decay Lip Junkie Lip Gloss if…

  • You prefer non-sticky glosses
  • You like the taste and scent of vanilla and mint
  • You want a sheer and shiny moisturizing gloss
  • You don’t mind having to reapply throughout the day

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Mmm, sounds delicious. I wouldn’t know whether to eat the gloss or put it on my lips. Great shades, though, and Runway looks fab on you!

I love the colors! But since they don’t last too long, I’m not sure they will work for me.

You might want to try ’em anyway… you never know, they might last longer on you!

The packaging is so pretty! But I need another lip gloss like I need a hole in my head. Hmm… maybe just one. 😛

Ha ha… I am the same way. Yet I can’t stop! I think I suffer from lipgloss addiction.

Which color are you thinking of picking up?

Okay. These wouldn’t be at all exciting (sheer? Not long-wearing? Hello, boring!) if not for one thing: THIN MINTS. I absolutely adore thin mints!

Obvs, I have to check out this line 😛

I haven’t been able to find my tube of Nymphette since the weekend! I am in crisis mode, I have become utterly dependent on that darn gloss. I am pretty sure it is in the closet somewhere, just need to do a little excavation…

I haven’t tried layering them w/any lipsticks yet, but I bet they’d look great (especially the shimmers).

The shades look amazing, but I’m a bit bummed that they’re not more pigmented. What does UD use as a plumping agent in these? Glosses with peppermint or cassia/cinnamon extract are a dime a dozen nowadays, but pop in some peptides or niacinamide & I’m in!

Not that it looks bad on you (because it actually looks rather nice) but why must Midnight Cowboy be the “Orgasm” of the Urban Decay line? Every time I see another Midnight Cowboy product come out, I avoid it because I think “Glitterbomb!”

I’m amazed at how different Perversion looks in the tube vs. on you – you’d think I’d have learned that lesson after pre-judging the NARS Albatross white gloss!

I love Midnight Cowboy (of course.. inner tranny) but thanks to winning a huge number of glosses from my very favorite website, I (and my friends) are hooked up for quite a while! And you’ll be proud that I’m spreading the knowledge I’ve garnered here. When my friend looked at the tubes and said “who would wear white lip gloss?”, I immediately replied “oh, no! It’s not white when you put in on… look (applied and made pouty lips), isn’t it great?”. Another convert! 🙂

I have an Urban Decay Pocket Rocket and it’s my favorite lipgloss ever, that alone makes me want to check out these Urban Decay glosses. I think Peroxide and Jilted look fantastic, but Midnight Cowboy and Wallflower look so awesome on you I’ll have to check those out too! Are they tubes or do they have an applicator?

I just bought crush and I think Im going to layer it over clinique lipstick. super hot pink.

Pairing it with some UD eyeshadow potion, UD Twice baked and 24/7 Glide pencil in Zero and Tons of lashblast fusion. Paired with a light pink blush and some bronzer.
