Wearing Boots No7 Poppy King Lipstick in Allure on my lips
Wow, okay, December 29? And we’re still kicking? Shoot, we need to reward ourselves for making it through the holidays.
Yes, I’m totally serious! Perhaps some small token for artfully dodging the family drama (which takes tremendous skill), for enduring that undercover sibling rivalry that never quite goes away, or for cooking that monster meal that catered to everyone’s preferences and food allergies (SIDE NOTE: Does anyone else out there still like cilantro?). Whatever the justification, I think we’re all due a small “Woo-hoo, we made it!” kind of prize, and I can’t think of a better one than Boots No7 Poppy King Lipstick ($9.99).
The new line of seven limited edition lipsticks launched last month at Target, and there’s a lot to like about it beyond the price.
Boots enlisted the help of Poppy King, of Lipstick Queen fame, to craft the range of creamy nudes, pinks, berries and reds. With their smooth, silky texture (reminds me of the Clinique Almost Lipsticks), and unscented, unflavored formula, these lippies look and feel more expensive than they are.
Each one has a one-word name chosen to reflect the color in its tube — History, Power, Glamour, Seduction, Intrigue, Confidence and Allure.
All top-tier words, to be sure. 🙂 And I like the idea of reaching for a tube of lipstick that conveys how I want to feel.
- History — A sheer neutral red
- Power — A rosy brown
- Glamour — A yellowish pink
- Seduction — A sheer blackberry
- Intrigue — A pinkish brown nude
- Confidence — A nude beige-brown
- Allure — A peachy pink
Swatches from the left: 1) History, 2) Power, 3) Glamour, 4) Seduction, 5) Intrigue, 6) Confidence and 7) Allure
History
Power
Glamour
Seduction
Intrigue
Confidence
(NOTE: I’m wearing Allure in the pic at the very top.)
White tank tops — that’s how I think of these, because they aren’t very flashy, but they are comfy and flexible.
The mid-level pigment means that I can sheer them out or build them up, and a faint semblance of shine gives them a little sass.
I expect to reach for one of these often, in part because I like their names and colors, but also because of their limited wear time. I only get about two hours out of them, but I think that’s pretty typical for a lightweight, moisturizing lipstick with a texture this thin.
I would have liked a longer wear time, but they are priced well. That, and they feel like a piece of fresh buttered bread (yum…), so I don’t mind having to reapply.
On top of everything else, aren’t the tubes cute as buttons? And they feel very sturdy in my hands.
PRICE: $9.99 each

Sweet kitty boy (but not for much longer)
You know how when you go away for a few days and come back home and your pets are totally into you? Well, hello! Tabs is going through that phase right now, and it’s glorious!
I call it his “serious love bug phase.” He must have really missed the way I make his gravy because he’s been all up in my grill since I walked in the door night before last. He’s even been — dare I say it! — sweet.
I know! A bona fide Christmas miracle. 🙂
Or maybe it’s that he misses his regular routine. I do, too. The older I get, the more I crave structure, and when something disrupts my routine, I feel…off. Does that ever happen to you?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
I hope they have these at the Target in town! I’ve been searching for them for a month now . . . I want all of them and the matching glosses! No luck yet in town, though . . .
Eek! I hope they arrive soon. They’re also available online on the Boots website (I have it linked above).
How are you doing? Are you enjoying your time off?
These look really great.
I know what you mean about structure. I get really cranky if I get thrown off my routine, and so does Missy for that matter!
They’re a lovely drugstore treat! It’s funny, I used to think of myself as someone who loved unstructured days, but now I crave my regular schedule.
Isn’t it funny how cats have a schedule too? Tabs keeps a very strict one of sleeping, lurvies and gravy eating. 😉
Nice article. I like the look of “Confidence” looks like a nice shade. Gotta check these out next time i’m at Target!
Thanks! I hope you find ’em.
Only $10 a pop? Holy smokes!
I know what you mean about wanting routines. If I have been eating the same breakfast foods for weeks, I feel strange switching to a different one.
LOL, I do that with breakfast food too, but it’s mostly because I’m barely awake first thing in the morning and aren’t coordinated enough to make anything elaborate. For me it’s usually gruel (aka oatmeal) or some whole wheat toast. How about you?
A boiled egg (with salt and pepper) a piece of whole wheat toast, and a cup of coffee. Heaven help the boyfriend if we run out of bread or eggs…. LOL.
I like the look oh History and Power, they’re so pretty!

Yes, love those shades!
I like Seduction!
Hubby and I like cilantro, but its quite difficult to find them sometimes.
Routine, oh boy, tell me about it! I crave for it, but rarely get to stick to it!

I like it too, but I have to be in the mood for it. I’ve noticed a LOT of people don’t care for it!
I love the names of the lipstick colors! I’m a marketing person’s target audience. History and Power might not look the best on me, but I’ll buy them anyway!
Me too!
Haha, me too! I love beauty products with clever names or literary/sci-fi references.
Happy Friday!
Ooooo LOOK AT TABS (I’m totally missing the point of this post lol)!!! Mine are always pretty enthusiastic when I come home, even after a 20-minute supermarket trip. I was told that to a certain extent animals can’t really tell how long you’ve really been gone. Anyways, ENJOY!
Wow, I wish Tabs was thrilled to have me home after a trip to the grocery! Mostly he just ignores me…
Still looking for these at local Targets!
Hope you find them soon! Let me know when you do.
My orange tabby gets upset and all out of sorts if his routine is upset. 🙂 I don’t like my routine being upset either cause it just makes me crazy, putting ME out of sorts!
I tried these too and Allure is my fav! I have my eyes on History next……love the names for sure! Btw Tabs looks adorable in that pic and hope he continues to be sweet 😉

Karen,
non-makeup related, but i love your necklace and b&w patterned shirt in the above pics!! where can i find em?! Intrigue and seduction are my faves! what will they be priced at?
DOWN WITH CILANTRO! DOWN WITH CILANTRO!
I had a bad experience travelling where everything was DOUSED in cilantro. Even when I’d take the bus it would be full of tiny, older women headed off to market with baskets of cilantro. Ever since then I despise the taste and smell.
Maybe every single one of your friends and family has been to Ecuador as well, Karen 🙂
Good thing mint still exists and is delicious in both liquids and solids.
Must look for these next Target run. Incidentally, I love cilantro, but my husband is one of these people with the recessive “taster” gene, for whom cilantro tastes like SOAP! So, we never have it at home, and I only eat it at restaurants. Alas.
These caught my eye at Target because of the bright, polka dot decorated packaging. So cute!
Oh, so glad you were able to find these, Ana. They seem to be hard to find for some gals. Were both the lipsticks and glosses on the display?
Thanks for the great post! I love Poppy King, but haven’t been able to find these in my local target – thanks to your swatches I think I’ll gamble on Glamour and Intrigue (apparently I’m longing to be Mata Hari these days).
