The Smashbox Sultry/Sweet Glambox Takes the Guesswork Out of Looking Good

March 22nd, 2011 by Karen 43 Comments

smashbox sultry sweet glambox

By the time I finished folding my laundry last weekend, there was a stack of 10 surf tees sitting on the bed. I don’t know when or how it happened, but it’s official — I have the wardrobe of a tween surfer boy.

It’s not that I wouldn’t like to wear other things. I just don’t like to spend the time and energy (read: I’m too lazy) it takes to put together comprehensive, fashion-forward looks. What I need is a wardrobe correction kit, a single set of pieces designed to create comprehensive looks, like a wardrobe version of the Smashbox Sultry/Sweet Glambox ($68).

Here it is next to an iPhone for scale

New for spring, the eight-piece set comes with seven full-size makeup essentials, and one smaller item, in new shades of berry, pink and plum. Put them together for either a Sweet daytime look or a Sultry one for nights. Just add a little elbow grease and your favorite foundation and powder (and maybe also a brow filler if it’s part of your regular routine), and you’re good to go, day or night.

Smashbox equipped the kit with a full-size powder eyeshadow quad in medium pigmentation, a pencil liner, a sheer powder blush, a lengthening mascara, two lip glosses and an under-eye brightener. They also included a generous travel-size tube of their Photo Finish Luminizing Foundation Primer (available in one shade, a golden peachy pink) and a simple step-by-step tutorial sheet which I followed to create the day (Sweet) and night looks (Sultry) here. 🙂

Looking for a new spring look but don’t want to have to think too hard? The great Glambox does a lot of the legwork for you, especially if you like the way you look in shades of berry, pink and plum.

PRICE: $68
AVAILABILITY: At select Sephora Nordstrom stores (thanks, Josh!) and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (an A if it was a little less expensive)

Speaking of things that are both sultry and sweet…

Today Tabs asked me to order him one of these kitty wigs, but he didn’t say which one. The text just read, “Get me one,” with a link to the site.

Which one do you like best? Tabs is counting on your sense of style! 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I’ve had really good experiences with smashbox products, so I’ll have to check this out. I don’t know about the wigs though. I think Tabs’ smoldering beauty would really be set off with a black wig, or maybe blonde with black streaks?

I was thinking maybe a pop of color to contrast against his fur? I like the pink but I don’t know if he’s gonna go for curls.

What Smashbox products have you been loving lately?

Love the look of the glambox! But the wigs, not so much – Tabs looks mighty fine without one if you ask me 😛

(If I had to chose, though? Platinum blonde, for sure.)

I vote for the blonde with sweeping bangs. The one at the bottom right. I think it matches Tabs coloring the best. 🙂

I love Smashbox and Too Faced at the mo. I think that I’ve bought almost nothing but since I arrived in the US, lol. I love this too, but not sure that I can justify it when I already have so many shadows and lip glosses – and the price 🙁

It is pretty expensive, but it does break down to about $8.50/item, which isn’t bad at all!

I think Tabs would rock the platinum blond wig on the bottom right.

I’m awful at putting makeup colors together, but I wasn’t wowed by the Smashbox shadows I got as a special from Sephora. However, I love the colors of this collection, so I’ll have to check the kit out.

By the way, I love both your day and night looks here!

That wig would definitely up his glamour game. 🙂

Smashbox shadows tend to be hit or miss — when they’re good, they REALLY good. These are pretty nice. They’ve got sheer-to-medium coverage (but you can still build them up) and have very little fallout.

Oh, I need help when it comes to putting colors together too. One trick I use is to look at flowers or other things from nature.

Oooooh, I’ve really liked Smashbox recently. Their In Bloom collection was one of my favorite just for the cream blush duo and the eye shadow palette. I’m not sure I would get any use out of the clear shimmer lip gloss, but those eye shadows look super pretty swatched on your arm. What is with and my fascination with neutrals lately?! It’s spring, I should be craving bright colors!

HAHAHAHAHAHA the wigs! Would Tabs actually keep that on? The I say go for it just for the looks people would give as you walk by with him. Totally worth it for that!

You look gorgeous as usual! I love that blush!

Clearly the side-swept bangs wig. It is a warmer tone that would probably go better with Tabs’ fur. Now, when he is hanging with Gaga, clearly he’ll need the pink.

Loving this set. Actually, really just loving the quad, tempt, and blush, but the other stuff wouldn’t be too shabby. The shadows all look matte in the quad shot but it looks like two have a nice sheen. I’ve been on the hunt for nice sheen — all matte is too drab and shimmer/frost can be a bit much for work. I’ll have to check this out.

Loving the colors and the versatility in that Smashbox kit.

Had to consult with Missy about the Kitty Wigs. She’s disappointed that they don’t offer a green option, which would be her preference, so we’re gonna vote for the blue! She says “it’s all about the color, Tabs baby!”

Totally the pink one. Tabs is a sweet and sultry diva (don’t let him deny it) and needs the pink wig to match the theme of the post.

I really like this but definitely don’t need more makeup or Smashbox. I’m officially addicted to the Let’s Do Lunch. But it is nice. Good price for what you get. I’m usually a sucker for any sampler under $40. But these are full size. Hmmm. Willpower is fading….
