The Smashbox Masquerade Collection Unleashes a Sultry, Smoldering Makeup Fantasy for Fall 2010

Gimme, gimme jewel-toned blues and greens, soft browns, pinks and golds!

SING IT WITH MEH!

Gimme, gimme jewel-toned blues and greens, soft browns, pinks and golds!

ONE MORE TIME!

Gimme, gimme jewel-toned blues and greens, soft browns, pinks and golds!

I’m as happy as a kid at the front of the deep fried Twinkie line at the county fair. 🙂 Girl, grab your ball gown and bedazzled mask, and prepare to be lured by a Smashbox Masquerade.

Available online now, Masquerade’s a small but comprehensive fall release with seven limited-edition pieces dressed in sophisticated indigo blue packaging. Pink, gold and peach shades softly light up lips and cheeks, and rich browns and beiges — along with a sprinkling of jeweled shimmery greens and blues — smolder on the eyes.

I think there’s something scary seductive about this collection. When I read the color story, I felt the shades drawing me into a fantasy that starred detailed satin ball gowns and glittering masquerade masks. I think the collection’s much prettier and softer than last year’s Reign, which had a cool edginess to it, but some of the colors in Reign weren’t the easiest ones to wear (two words: red eyeshadow).

Tabs hard at work

This afternoon, as Tabs pursued his busy kitty agenda, I tried out three of the new Masquerade products and had a ball.

  • Creamy Cheek Color & Brush in Intrigue ($29), a warm matte pink cream blush in stick form, comes with a cleverly attached brush. I like the deep pigmentation and texture (thick, and somewhat dry, so it latches onto the skin really well), but it’s a little hard to blend with the brush (it doesn’t erase harsh lines for squat). I think you might be better off just using your fingers. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B
  • Lip Enhancing Gloss in Reveal ($19), a shimmery golden nude, could probably pass as a MAC Dazzleglass Cream with its sleek packaging and non-sticky texture. I’m not crazy about the cinnamon scent, but at least Smashbox left it unflavored. They also gave it a wonderful wear time of about four hours. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+
  • Liquid & Lash Overlay in Teal ($19) shimmers as one of the more innovative products I’ve seen from Smashbox in a while. After lining your eyes with the tip of the brush and applying your choice of mascara, grab the wand and sweep the ridged edge along the tips of your lashes for a hint of shimmery color. I love how rich this teal is, but it took more than three layers to lay down a solid line. I think I’ll mostly use it as a lash overlay (a subtle but noticeable effect). Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

Cravings…

So, I’m majorly hormonal right now, and I’m craving a veggie burger and fries. If I don’t one or both of them into my tummy soon, I believe I will gnaw my arm.

Mmm… fries.

Enough about my junk food cravings. How was your Tuesday?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

This collection is gorgeous! I love the teal liquid liner (although, who has the time to apply three layers?) and I especially love the idea of the lash overlay. I dig the color of the cream blush, but I always have a hard time blending cream blush over face powder, so I tend to stay away. The e/s colors in the compact are all nice. Normally, I can’t get into fall colors in summer, but it’s been cold so it feels like summer never came. I guess I’m just ready to skip right over it, but I’m betting we’ll be seeing some 100° temps in late September. *sigh* :-\

It’s been really cold here too — overcast in the morning and for most of the day. 🙁

I actually wore long pants to bed last night and had to grab an extra blanket. Where is our summer?!

that teal liner is GORGEOUSSSS! same with the gloss! however, the cream blush looks a bit dryingg.. dont get me wrong, the color is gorgeous! just seems a bit difficult to blend.. and based on your review, seems like it is true.. 🙁 i like my cream blusehs to be more creamy .. like NYX rouge cream blushes <3 hehe thanks for the heads up though!

When I was wayyyyyy younger (like in school younger) eyeliner was the only thing that I could afford to buy and the only thing that my mom would let me wear … so I discovered the magic of colored eyeliner early on.

I remember having green, purple, blue, black and brown and id match my liner to my outfit LOL. I still have that addiction til now!

I love this collection! The onyl thing I probably wont get is the teal eyeliner because there were so many collections this past summer that had a similar color so I have enough of it. I cant wait until this comes out!

The Liner/Lash Overlay products aren’t completely new…the Canadian beauty brand Lise Watier has been producing “Lash & Line Glitter Duos” for several seasonal collections in the past few years.

I don’t care much for Smashbox (colors “turn” on me), but I love the promo picture. We are certainly going to be smoldering this fall! I think Chanel set the bar really high with their fall collection, but so many other companies are releasing beautiful collections, too. Just when I think I’ve got it all, a new fall item comes out that I absolutely love. My latest tumble? Guerlain’s Rue Sevres palette.

Veggie burger and fries? When do we eat!

Just picked up the eye shadow palette today. I really love this collection and I’m not usually a big Smashbox fan. The highligher is very niice too–it can look pink or gold depending on your skin tone. Loved the cream blush too–goes on like a cream but feels like a powder on.

    I’m digging it!
