The NYX 10 Color Palette in Bohemian Rhapsody Is Fit for a Queen

January 20th, 2011 by Karen 60 Comments

nyx bohemian rhapsody

Any way the wind blows, doesn’t really matter to me…because the NYX 10 Color Palette in Bohemian Rhapsody makes everything better. It comes with 10 of the line’s most wearable neutrals in shades of silver, taupe, brown, beige, gray, peach and black, all for an easily digestible $11 (and they even included a case!).

NYX tends to get a little repetitive with their 10-Color Palettes. I say, NYX tends to get a little repetitive with their 10-Color Palettes, but a variety of matte and shimmery finishes keeps this Bohemian Rhapsody from singing the same song twice.

What’s my favorite way to wear it? I like to add one of the lighter mattes to my brow bone, sweep a slightly darker matte in the crease, pat one of the shimmers on the lid, and then define both my lash and water lines with the matte in black.

Each and every time I open this thing I want to break into song! — like I’m a long lost Von Trapp child (who happens to be brown). 🙂

SIDENOTE: Picture the Von Trapp children performing a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody… A perfect storm of awesomeness, right?

Bohemian Rhapsody is one of my favorite NYX 10 Color Palettes to date. If you’ve been pining for Urban Decay Naked but haven’t pulled the trigger, this could be a fantastically affordable alternative.

PRICE: $11
AVAILABILITY: At select drugstores, Ulta and nyxcosmetics.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+

You’re killin’ me, Kate!

It’s official — I’m obsessed with Kate Spade. I made the mistake of looking at the website today and could not stop drooling over the cute new spring shoes.

Tabs pawed at the monitor when he saw the red pair… I’m taking it as a sign.

Shaky camera pic!

And what are you up to on this lovely Thursday afternoon? 🙂 Doing anything fun?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Was looking at this one but thought it was too duplicative with Champagne and Caviar — which I think of as a Naked sub (not quite a dupe). Would be nice to have the mattes though.

Tabs looks scrawny in this shot. Has his agent been on his case about dropping weight for his modeling gigs? He should tell them he just needs a better photographer to catch his good side.

The mattes in this palette are the best thing about it. 🙂

Everyone looks 10 pounds thinner when shot from above! Even famous kitteh models.

Aaaah! Thank you for incorporating the song into the review. I adore Queen <3 I have the Naked Palette, and it's my love. I use Virgin every single day!

Quick unrelated question- I'm going to be buying MAC pigment samples. Are there any that you'd say are a must have for theater or everyday? (Looking for retina burning colors for the shows I'm in, and nice colors like Blue Brown for daily use. NW20 for reference! :D)

What’s your fave Queen song? Mine is Under Pressure.

As for pigments, Melon, Coco Motion, Golden Olive and Old Gold for everyday.

For crazy colors there are some nice brights out right now — Push the Edge and Madly Personal

Thanks for the Queen reference. I’ve always been obsessed with them. My favorite Queen song is a bit on the obscure side. Need Your Loving Tonight, which is a track off of The Game.

I saw your comment above about Under Pressure which is one of my faves too, but I think I’ll have to go with Somebody to Love as my top pick. That said, I love almost all of their songs. Oh yes, they do! It’s our big tournament weekend. Up both days at 4:30 to be at the rink for 6. They only have 4 games but we have to work the snack bar, raffles, etc. We should be out by 9 PM tomorrow night and some time in the afternoon on Sunday. Did I mention that it’s not heated and the weather is supposed to be minus 7 to minus 15? Gotta love hockey! 🙂
