The MAC 240S: My Preferred Brush for Precise Face Powder Placement

January 28th, 2020 by Karen 5 Comments

The MAC 240 S! I use it every day.

Generally, I try to wear the bare minimum amount of face powder I can get away with because when I pile it on, I think it makes me look older. *Le sigh* But even though I don’t wear a ton, I still like to wear some because it 1) mellows out my pores, 2) sets my foundation/concealer so they last longer, and 3) reduces the gleam on the shine spots.

Technically, my fave powder brush du jour is an oversized eye blending brush, the MAC 240S ($34). It’s perfect for that “just enough powder but not too much” look I like, and I love the shape and size. It’s like an XXL tapered blending brush, so it’s handy for applying a thin veil of product right in the center of my forehead…

As well as down the sides of my nose (which tend to be shiny).

Side note: If you like to contour, this brush can also be used for contouring.

I also like using this brush to set concealer and foundation under my eyes, around the base of my nostrils and my mouth.

And lastly, it’s also handy for mellowing out the gradient along the edges of blush and bronzer on cheeks.

The 240S is a little hard to find, but it’s still available on the Macy’s website. Grab it if you have the chance! I’ll also keep looking for dupes, and please let me know if you find one.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Sold! Just placed my order. I remember you mentioning this technique for powder in the past. Looks like a good versatile brush. Thanks for the rec!

You were asking about dupes for the Mac 240S. I really like Sigma brushes, and I think their prices are very reasonable compared to so many other lines. Their F64 Soft Blend Concealer brush, for $22.00, looks fairly similar to the Mac , and I noticed in the comments that it can be used for highlighter, so I am thinking it is a similar size, but it is hard to tell in the picture and they do not give dimensions.

When did you get back on the concealer? I thought you two had a permanent separation? 😉

      Hi Kim!

I’m not 100% on it, just a dab or two here and there when I have the time. 🙂 I’m loving the Estee Lauder one because it doesn’t settle into fine lines!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
