The Limited Edition L’Oreal Colors Take Flight Collection Has a Rather Charming Cockatoo

October 4th, 2011 by Karen 52 Comments

loreal project runway collection colors take flight charming cockatoos gaze

It’s been a Project Runway kind of day…

No, nothing big like running into Heidi at Sephora or kicking it with Tim Gunn at the DSW (I wish!).

Just a couple of small but cool brushes with my favorite reality TV show. The first one I noticed this morning, when the Tivo, a normally evil form of artificial intelligence hell bent on recording all of the shows I NEVER watch, actually did something useful for a change. It recorded the entire season four of Project Runway, from start to finish, without me having to program it. 🙂

SIDE NOTE: Didn’t you just love Sweetpea? I wish she would have made it to the end just for being hella cool.

And the second one happened this afternoon as I futzed with Charming Cockatoo’s Gaze ($9), one of the four new quads in the L’Oreal Colors Take Flight collection, a collaboration with Project Runway (I know!).

The Colors Take Flight Collection…

  • A limited edition 20-piece release (available now at drugstores and also online) split into four sub-collections — Audacious Amazon (bright eyes and a fuchsia lip), Charming Cockatoo (pink and blue eyes and a burgundy lip), Watchful Owl (metallic eyes and a red lip) and Sultry Raven (smokey eyes and nude lips).
  • Each of the sub collections includes an eyeshadow quad ($9 each), a lipstick ($7 each), a blush ($10 each) and two nail polishes ($5 each).
  • The release is slowly trickling into drugstores like CVS and Walgreens, but if you’re interested and don’t want to hunt, the entire collection is already available online at Ulta.com.

I like this particular quad, but it’s a little heavy on fallout and light on pigment. The colors are totally my style (bright but not blinding), and I love the connection to Project Runway (of course!), but I wouldn’t say I’m head over heels.

PRICE: $9
AVAILABILITY: Coming soon to drugstores like CVS/Pharmacy; available now online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B

Oh, guess what! The models will be wearing the entire collection in Thursday night’s new episode, so tune in if you’d like a sneak peak.

I wonder who’s gonna win this season… I know whom I want to win (GO TEAM ANYA!).

I get the feeling that Joshua might be on his way home. I’m a little tired of his be-dazzling stuff, and he hasn’t always been the nicest person.

Are you watching the show this season? Who are you pulling for?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

      Hi Antonia,

Yeah… there’s a lot of trashy reality TV out there (and I’m guilty of watching it), but this show’s actually really interesting and intelligent. Give it a try sometime!

I loved season 4 of Runway! Such great talent and genuine good will towards each other (for the most part), not the over the top bitchiness for camera time that we’ve seen recently (Hello, Joshua!).

As for this season, I’d love to see Anya pull an underdog win, but Viktor’s craftmanship is really, really impressive!

      Hi Heidi,

I really enjoyed that season, too. The contestants were so talented, professional and memorable.

As for this one… I’m not a fan of all the backstabbing and snarkiness that’s been happening in the current season, but I can’t stop watching!

Are you going to watch the All Stars show? I can’t wait for it to start!

They look really nice on you, but it’s a shame about the fallout. I have to wonder how it would look with a burgundy lip, though. Seems like it might be an odd combo. Are you Ev Revving in this photo? It’s a nice choice with the eyes. 🙂

I’ve never watched PR but I loved your be-dazzling line. We’re looking to do some custom crystal tshirts for our 40th b’day bash and it’s been sort of a struggle. I asked the girls if they thought we could find a bedazzler at a garage sale instead, and we all got a much-needed laugh!

I’m LORAC-ing in this pic with the Couture Shine Gloss in Trend Setter (from Real Life to Red Carpet kit). It’s a fun pinky nude lip. 🙂

Oh, good! I need the extra points for the lippie mistake! 🙂

I wanted tiaras and big, pouffy tutus, but was voted down. And can I just say how hard it is to find a custom crystal, black, v-neck tee? One really nice company can only get them in fitted up to XL, which won’t work for some of the gals, and the other won’t even respond. You’d think there would be more supply. I refuse to believe there’s no demand! 🙂

I just don’t understand how the tiaras and tutus got voted down. In my mind the combo is an automatic DO.

And what the what? How is it possible that there’s a dearth in custom crystal black v-neck tees?!

I know, right? It’s a painful learning experience! And after the “hella NO” on the tutus, I completely gave up on the idea of fairy wings. I was talking long tutus, too, like Diane Keaton’s here:

Is it weird that as a totally straight girl, I’m oh so slightly attracted to Anya? Call it a girl crush, I suppose…
I’m torn between Viktor and Anya at this point. Viktor has some amazing craftsmanship, and Anya has a really refreshing aesthetic. I’m worried, though, that most of what she produces is jumpsuits and maxi dresses.
I was originally quite taken with Anthony Ryan’s work, but then he was eliminated :(.

GOD, I want Josh to go. His clothes are consistently tacky and he’s a jerk. I’m rooting for Kimberly. She’s the hometown girl (well, Baltimore is close to DC), and she seems like a sweetheart. Honestly, though, the talent pool this season is really lacking :/. I feel like several seasons ago (like in S4), people like Laura Kathleen and Josh would’ve been gone within the first few episodes. I was watching some S1 episodes a few weeks back, and there’s just no comparison. Siiiigh…

I love the Tim Gunn post-it with kittens. Speaking of kittens, I’m going to send you some kitten photos soon! 🙂

Also, my Tivo records the most random things. Sure, sometimes it records SVU reruns for me (rarely in HD, though, which is irritating because I want Meloni to be highly defined, lol), but usually, the shows range from terrible to boring. It makes me wonder if my TV is judging me. Four straight hours of the weather channel? Really?

I’m really surprised Laura Kathleen is still in the running. You’re right — in Season 4 (the Christian Siriano season) she would’ve been outta there much earlier on.

Can’t wait to see the kitteh photos! Are the fur kids getting along?

Okay, so do you have a new-ish version of Tivo? We do (it’s like two years old) and it’s much crappier than our old one. This new one NEVER records the shows we want to watch, and it’ll get stuff like four hours of the football channel of a game from like 1982. That machine is my enemy!

MINE RECORDS ANCIENT SPORTS EVENTS, TOO! What the hell? Why would I want to watch a curling game from 1997? Mine’s a few years old, so it’s probably the same edition, and it seriously records hours upon hours of the weather channel. I watched it briefly during that big storm in January, and now it thinks I want to watch all weather, all the time. It also is under the impression that I want to watch “The Doctors” in binges, which is weird, because I’ve never actually seen the show. My Tivo doesn’t understand me!

I made a youtube channel for the kittens, but nothing’s up there yet. I need to record more videos with my tripod, because the ones I’ve taken so far are a bit shaky :/. It’s just hard to to break out the tripod spontaneously, and spontaneity is key with crazy kittens, lol. I’ll let you know when I have some videos there 🙂
