How Far Does Tarte Clean Slate Timeless Smoothing Primer Turn Back the Hands of Time?

If Father Time got his contractor’s license, he might invent something like Tarte’s new Clean Slate Timeless Smoothing Primer ($39). Designed to turn back the hands of time (that’s the idea at least), it works like makeup spackling paste.

A new addition to Tarte’s permanent line of cruelty-free cosmetics, it fills in pores and smoothes out fine lines and wrinkles, so skin looks a little blurred, and a little closer to flawless. It also preps the skin for foundation and other makeup layered on top.

I have to say, I like how lightweight it feels, and I dig the lemony scent, even though, yeah, I don’t feel like ’90s teenage Karen is staring back at me in the mirror when I wear it on my face.

Still, I think my skin does look smoother when I wear it, and my pores aren’t all up in my grill.

I guess in a way, maybe, it does turn back time a bit… Like perhaps six months to a year. 🙂

Oh! — if oil control is high up on your list, here’s something you might like: when I wear Clean Slate Timeless Smoothing Primer under foundation, my skin looks extremely matte (which reads well on camera, especially when a flash is involved) and stays shine-free all day long.

I don’t know which ingredients deserve credit for that — the vitamins C and E, green bean extract or the peptides that Tarte says add moisture, while smoothing and firming the skin, or the silicones the product also contains (which are listed high up on the ingredient list).

At any rate, I like the results. Good for intense smoothing, filling and battling imperfections. Might be a good alternative to the similar NARS Pro-Prime Instant Line & Pore Perfector if you’re on the market for something cruelty-free.

PRICE: $39 for a 0.5-oz jar
AVAILABILITY: Available now in Tarte’s permanent collection at Tarte counters and online

Just in case you were hoping to see a pic of Tabs wearing pearls today…

LOL! You’re welcome.

Oh, look! It’s the Dowager Countess from Downton Tabbey. 🙂

Well, when would one NOT be hoping to see a pic of Tabs wearing pearls? And speaking of Downton Tabby, I’m assuming you have this on your nightstand:

The matte aspect sounds promising! Since you mentioned flash photography…do you use flash for your portrait shots? Love the Dowager Countess reference 🙂 We don’t have TV channels so we watch everything streaming a few months after it aired. I’m catching up on the most recent season now. The relationship between Mrs. Crowley and the Dowager Countess has the most hilarious dynamic!

Hi Karen! This sounds like something up my alley since my skin is unfortunately an oil slick. Would you say this made your makeup last longer at all? Thanks!

THis sounds nice enough, but I’m not gonna lie: totally distracted by that palette every time 😉

It’s a little pricey but the formula sounds pretty decent. The ingredients seem like they’ll work well with my dry skin and I could definitely use something to control shine while it’s so hot out. I may have to invest in this soon

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
