Stila Multi-Effect Mascara: A Brush with Destiny

BREAKING NEWS: Stila’s Multi-Effect Mascara ($20) creates thick, fatty-bo-batty lashes! Check out how my lashes go from zero to luscious in just two coats.

I gotta hand it to Stila for the curved brush they packaged with Multi-Effect Mascara. The thing flat-out rocks, helping the product deliver amazing thickness. The arch fits perfectly into the curve of my lashes (and probably yours, too), better than any other curved brush I’ve used before. With it I can really get into the lashes and coat them from root to tip.

I’m definitely loving the thickness Multi-Effect and its magical brush provide, but I was also hoping to see a more dramatic difference in length and lash curl. Stila says Multi-Effects is designed to create, well, multiple effects — longer, thicker and curlier lashes — but after two coats the difference I saw in length and curl were minimal. It held the curl but lengthened to a lesser degree than Shu Uemura’s Precise Volume Mascara does.

Price: $20
Use: Thicker lashes with a great brush

If you have naturally wimpy lashes like I do but aren’t looking to go lash crazy, consider giving Multi-Effect Mascara a try. It’s a basic thickener with a fantastic brush. Of course, when I want really dramatic lashes, I’m going to have to look elsewhere. I also wish it were a bit cheaper.

Find Stila’s Multi-Effect Mascara at Sephora stores nationwide or check it out online.

Let the rain fall down, and wake my dreams

Ever since the last season of The Hills wrapped up a few weeks ago, Monday nights have felt sort of empty. I’m desperate for my reality TV fix, so today when I was getting ready for work I popped in the Season 1 DVD of Laguna Beach. Talk about old school! It’s weird seeing Lauren show real emotion on camera.

Does anyone know what happened to Trey, the group’s resident do-gooder? I always liked him and wondered if he went on to accomplish more do-goodery after the show ended.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Awesome lashes!

I caught part of Laguna Beach when it was on but I am a die hard fan of The Hills. Soo fake but I love it.

I think i have this one…I think it came in my set I bought last time at Ulta…to get the illuminating tinted moisturizer – it was a kit with the moisturizer that was the same price as the moisturizer alone. Yeah and I feel pretty much the same way about it that you do… it’s okay… but it’s not really as dramatic as I would like it to be.

    Hi Marisol,

Yeah it is! I can’t wait for the new season. 🙂

I hope Lauren and Audrina stay friends.

    Hi Megan,

I know right? The brush is so awesome; I just wish the mascara was just as amazing.

Not only do I have wimpy lashes, my lashes are growing straight downwards LOL… So far, only Shu Uemura Waterproof Precise Volume Mascara can curl, lengthen and add volume to them after I curl them with Shu’s curler. I have tried a sample of Chanel’s Inimitable before but it does not curl my lashes. Since this Stila curls, I may give it a go.

I do wonder what happened to Trey and “Active Young America” remember the drama at the fashion show? Which season of “The Hills” is the one where Heidi and Spencer start dating? I want it on DVD!

    Hi Miss QQ,

Aww, we can have wimpy lashes together. Isn’t Precise Volume awesome? One thing I like to do is layer that on top of volumizing mascaras, like L’Oreal Carbon Black. Try it sometime! 🙂

    Hi LaurenIvy,

Right? Maybe I should hunt Trey down and ask him if I can start a group called “Active Not So Young America”, LOL.

Remember Dieter’s eyebrows? Talk about hot mess.

I have used (and love) stila’s major lash mascara-the cheaper one–it’s around $12. (they have a new one now that’s called major major lash, lol.) BUt I haven’t tried any of the other stila ones.

I think if I’m going to spend that much on mascara, I’m going to stick with my fresh supernova! I love the way it makes my lashes look and the best part is it doesn’t make ’em feel heavy or dry either. Shu’s precise is pretty good too, but fresh’s is definitely more dramatic. but it’s not waterproof (which i prefer, I only need w/p on the rare occasion).

    Hi SarahPuffy,

Yeah, the only reason why I like it is because of the nifty curved brush. 🙂 Is Full n’ Soft your fave?

    Hi Amanda,

I might have to get the Major Major Lash just because of the name. 🙂

Okay, okay, SOLD! I will get my grubby hands on some Supernova!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
