Should You Say Yes To These Yes To Cucumbers Facial Towelettes?

November 24th, 2010 by Karen 39 Comments

yes to cucumbers facial towelettes review

I experienced what can only be described as a euphoric scent-sory experience the other day with a Yes to Cucumbers Facial Towelette ($6 for a pack of 30). El Hub walked in on me while I was holding one of them up to my nose and breathing deeply (smells like those cucumber water drinks you get at a fancy shamncy spas). I must have looked like Gollum from Middle Earth, cradling my little precious…

These softer-than-soft wipes are the latest additions to the Yes To ______ line of organic eco-friendly skin and hair products.

I think the company’s pretty cool, especially when they release something I really like.

The biodegradable cloths say “yes to” removing face and eye makeup without the need for water, but with the help of skin softening cucumber, aloe vera and exfoliating minerals collected from the Dead Sea.

Soft, they are, but they’re still able to cut through foundation, powder, blush and lipstick with ease. Eye makeup, however, is another story. I find myself having to use a second wipe to remove eyeshadow, liner and mascara, and, to take care of waterproof stuff, I give it a little help from Bliss Lid + Lash.

These also have the nice side effect of making my skin feel great, and even though they aren’t the most thoroughly efficient makeup wipes I’ve ever used, I like the scent, the price and the company’s groovy organic vibe.

PRICE: $6 for 30
AVAILABILITY: At drugstores and also online.

      Hi Vonnie,

Haha, not gonna lie — sometimes I nickname certain beauty items “my precious.”

      Have a very happy Thanksgiving!

Makeup wipes in general seem to struggle with removing eye makeup. The only thing I’ve ever used that totally removes eye makeup, including waterproof, is Pond’s Cold Cream. Plus, it’s super cheap.

      Hi Gina,

A lot of women rave about Pond’s! I tried when I was a teenager (aka many moons ago) and remember liking it, but it’s been years since I’ve given it a go.

How does it handle makeup along the waterlines? Does it sting your eyes at all?

      Hi Britany,

Sorry to hear that face wash didn’t really work for you. The line has a lot of things for face, hair and body, so hopefully you’ll find something you like soon!

Have a very happy Thanksgiving. 🙂

    Hey Karen,

I’m officially planning to have an affair with these wipes, cuz I think I’m in love (with perhaps a smidgen of lust??), that is, is I can find em in Canada…
Anyway, I was wondering if these are moisture friendly? As in, they don’t dry out your skin? Aloe sounds nice, but the dead sea salt and “exfoliating” factor makes me weary.
I’m a nature/organic beauty nut and usually use olive oil on a Q-tip for my eye makeup, and don’t like using those drugstore beauty wipes due to the chemicals and instead, pack a mini face wash and moisturizer in my weekend bag, these would be my DREAM if I can get a hold of em!!

      Hi Raven,

I didn’t have any trubs with these wipes drying out my skin, and I have pretty bad dry skin (especially around the corners of my mouth and my nose). What’s the climate like where you live? If the temps are very extreme you’ll definitely want to still throw in a moisturizer, because while the wipes themselves aren’t drying I wouldn’t depend on them as as your only source of moisture.

I have always wanted to try the Yes To …….lines of products, but when I went into Target, I just couldn’t decide what to get and ended up getting other stuffs instead of products from this line. Next time, I should just head directly to the Yes To…. shelves. 😉

      Hi Vonvon,

I’ve tried a few things from the line — Yes to Carrots, Yes to Tomatoes and Yes to Cucumbers. 🙂 Maybe start out with Yes to Cucumbers? Those products have the best scent. 🙂

I’m always intrigued by these but a little stingy about the price. Their new Yes to Blueberries line keeps catching my eye as well. The best makeup wipes I’ve found are from Costco– Kirkland brand, you get 4 packs of 30 and two packs of 15 (150 total) for about $10! They are textured (sort of quilted) so they really grab the makeup better than other wipes.

I discovered that CVS and Walgreens’ store brand wipes are actually EXACTLY the same as my beloved Costco wipes (same exact ingredients). Must be from the same manufacturer. I keep buying the CVS 15-packs from the travel section because I haven’t had a chance to go to Costco lately… but they are the best deal! 🙂

      Hi Antonia,

They’re so handy, right? What’s really cool is Yes to Cucumbers also makes these smaller travel packs with just 10 wipes. They’re perfect for carrying around in your purse.

I REALLY love these wipes. I keep going back to them, even when I know I could use something cheaper. I love the fresh smell, they have the “just right” level of moisture, and the packaging makes sure they never dry out. Love, love, love!!

        Hi Karen!

I have tried the Carrots Body Moisturizer (I think this might be DC on the website)- it’s nice, has a light smell and doesn’t leave your hands sticky..

I also LOVE the Carrots Body Butter. Nice and thick, but not heavy nor greasy. It’s impossible to describe the scent of the Carrots products, besides to say it’s light and fresh, but not in a “sea fresh” nor an “herbal fresh.” Definitely not a carrot smell.

I have also used the Carrots Gentle Exfoliating facial cleanser. I am not impressed. It leaves an odd feeling film on one’s face, and is quite drying, Perhaps for oily skinned ladies (I am normal to dry) this would be an ok product, but it’s not really exceptional. There are no noticeable grains in it, but it feels lightly scrubby. Not a repurchase. I had high hopes though.

The lip balms are great. I live in the mountains, and it is dry all the time.

I love this company’s ethics, and the website is beyond cute. I would really like to try the anti-aging Yes to Blueberry line, but part of me still thinks the chemicals probably do a better job- I will report if I try it out!

        Have a great vacation!

I keep meaning to try some of the Yes To _____ line. I might start with this one, since they sound great, and eye makeup removal is really not a priority of mine. I usually sleep with it on. In fact, I find that leaving eye liner on leaves you with much lusher looking lashes the next day, as it all like, migrates into the lash line. Is that wrong? I don’t wanna be right, lol.

I LOVE these wipes. They work very well in getting makeup off(even eyemakeup on me). Also I have -extremely- sensitive skin, and most makeup remover wipes will either burn or make me break out, or both. This one doesn’t do that.

ULTA sells a smaller pack for about three bucks I think(it’s a 10 pack, but for someone just wanting to try..)which is what I got. I want the bigger pack but my store’s always sold out.

these actually made my face kind of red and tight, which was a real downer since I love makeup wipes and REALLY wanted to love these.

Had to go back to my tried and true l’oreal revitalift wipes. Thought I missed the cucumber smell.
