Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick: A $6 Drugstore Dream

April 29th, 2010 by Karen 59 Comments

Good morning on this fine Thursday, ladies. 🙂 I finally got a chance to swatch those Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipsticks ($6) from last week and wanted to share the pics.

After trying three of the 24 members of the Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick line ($6 each), I will say I’m impressed.

Rose Blush

Pink Chic

Red Alert

What I like about ’em…

  • The light rose taste and scent
  • Their smooth texture
  • Moisturizing formula
  • Medium-to-full color coverage
  • Four-hour wear time
  • $6 = GOOD DEAL!
  • The cute purple packaging
  • High shine finish

What I don’t like about ’em…

  • The first layer of the lighter shades goes on kinda patchy
  • The packaging, while cute, feels flimsy
  • Most drugstores don’t allow customers to swatch/test colors before buying

Wearing Rose Blush

Wearing Pink Chic

Wearing Red Alert

Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Despite the somewhat flimsy packaging and the fact that you might have to layer these lipsticks, they’re winners in my book. Based on price, wear time and their hydrating formula, keep these in mind (a BOGO sale might be a perfect opportunity to stock up!).

You might like Rimmel Moisture Renew if…

  • You like the sound of $6
  • You like lipsticks with a moisturizing formula
  • You’re looking to try some new lipstick shades (24 to choose from!)
  • You like a shiny finish

From left: Rose Blush, Pink Chic, Red Alert

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. With Wednesday behind us, that means we’re over the proverbial hump, ladies! Should be smooth sailing from here… 🙂

I like that one too. At first I was afraid it was going to look kinda porn star (LOL), but it’s actually kind of sophisticated on.

How’s your Wednesday Thursday going, btw?

I have this in “Rose Passion”, which is a really trendy, bright fuschia. It’s my new go-to “go out” lipstick! I get so many compliments on it! Worth every penny of the $6.

I will have to put that shade on my list! I’ve got a weakness for bright lip colors so it sounds wonderful.

Do you ever layer it with glitter glosses? I bet that would look hot!

I haven’t paired it with a gloss yet for a couple of reasons. 1) I have really full lips, so it’s easy for them to take over my entire face if they have bright color AND gloss. 2) The Boy doesn’t like “that slimy crap”. I humor him when he’s around.

But I think I’m going to try it with my Sephora Super Shine gloss. The clear one with the sparkles. Eek…now I can’t wait! I should make plans to go out, so I can wear it!

Side note: I like to apply, blot, dot on to create a matte look with it. It increases the staying power!

I like drugstore lippies for trying out new colors or for one-time combos, and I’m loving Rimmel right now! I wanted to start trying more of their stuff when I heard Zooey Deschanel was going to be one of their new faces! 🙂

And btw, I loooove Zooey Deschanel!

I LOVE Pink Chic but I think it might be too cool on me. Rose blush may be a safer color for me. I’m just afraid that this might make my lips feel raw and chapped after a day of wear. Too bad I can’t test it out first.

You could always try it and if it’s too cool maybe you could try layering a warmer pink liner beneath…

Both are cute… it depends on what you’re in the mood for. Rose Blush is a bit more sophisticated (good for work events). I think Pink Chic is a little more fun and edgy… imagine it with a really hot, sooty smokey eye. Sexy!!

I have these in Coral Shimmer, Dreamy, and Rosette. I love Dreamy the most, it gives the perfect nude-pinky shimmer. After seeing your swatch, I really want Rose Blush now. My fave thing about them is how moisturizing they are!

I love it! You have to apply three coats to get the coral, though. It also gives a pretty gold shimmer which I love.

Rose blush would have become my favorite color if only I could have laid hands on it. Why oh why cant they come to India? BTW, it seems MUFE is opening an outlet in one of our metros. I read about it on an Indian blogger’s site (http://makeupandbeauty.com/make-up-forever-mufe-is-coming-to-india/)

I love this line of lipsticks! I have one in Nude Delight. It’s very moisturizing, but with my incredibly chap lips, I need some priming first before applying the lipstick.

A lot of them has shimmer in it and I don’t quite like that kind of frosty lipsticks. But Pink Chic looks so interesting, I’m definitely gonna check them out next time when I’m at Walmart =D

I would just like to share with everyone yesterday I bought a lipstick for $1 and it was awesome.

    It’s from Wet n Wild, it’s 547B Breeze, it’s a very sheer lightly shimmery beige nude. And it’s $1.

Being so pale that I do glow under a black light bulb, never did I think I could wear a nude lipstick. Until today. And it’s $1.

I have Vintage Pink and I love it. I bought it when I was looking for pinky nudes and this is pinker then I wanted for that, but just lovely. Looks like Dusty Rose might be another one to check out.

If you are open for another drugstore brand, Maybelline’s Color Sensation in Plaza Pink is a pretty peachy-nude.

I discovered Rimmel’s Moisture Renew almost by accident but I love it! I’m a NC20 and I purchased the Spotlight Beige color. What a surprise! It’s absolutely my favorite nude lipstick in my arsenal right now. Close-to-opaque coverage, shiny luster, and just the perfect amount of pink in it to keep me from looking washed out. I’ve since purchase Dusty Rose, but it’s a little dark for what I’m feeling right now. Better wait until fall for that one….

I bought the “Red Alert” one on a whim (buy one get on 50% off at Ulta), it’s much better than I thought it would be! It’s comparable to “Brave Red” by MAC, but with less shimmer to it. I’ll probably pick up a nude color too one of these days…
