NYX Studio Effect Liquid Liner and a Tuesday Hello

August 24th, 2010 by Karen 70 Comments

Hey, boo. 🙂 Howzit? Sorry if I’ve seemed a little distracted lately, but I’ve been trying to squeeze in as much time as possible with my in-laws before they head back to Hawaii on Friday. Yup, it’s been an interesting beauty balancing act — trying to be a considerate host while also being biologically incapable of resisting makeup for more than a few hours at a time, ha!

But like any self-respecting member of the Borg collective knows, “resistance IS futile.” Keeping this beauty fiend away from her makeup is like trying to keep Tabs away from gravy (read: hard). Today I even locked myself away in the bathroom for an hour just to be alone with the new NYX Studio Liquid Liners ($4.50 each).

Aren’t they pretty?

Available in 12 shimmery shades, they make quick work of clean, crisp lines that look almost like they’ve been drawn with those metallic markers.

I’ve tried eight of them over the past two weeks, and hot dayum! — what great deals for the price. They apply with opaque, pigmented color that lasts 12-14 hours, yet they’re still pretty easy to remove.

Clockwise from bottom: Extreme Green, Extreme Coffee, Extreme Pink, Extreme Smokey Gray, Extreme Sapphire, Extreme Sky Blue, Extreme Plum Purple, Extreme Blue

Oh, and NYX did a bang-up job on the brush. I find it easier to use than most liquid liner brushes. It resembles the brush that comes with MAC Liquidlast ($16.50 each), an overall similar product, but the firm fibers make it easier to wield. The tip is thin, but still firm and flexible enough to maneuver easily, and with it I can lay down solid, precise lines without getting product all over the place.

I just can’t believe these are only $4.50… You could get one for $10 and still have enough change left over for a Jamba Juice. 🙂 Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Impressive, I was kind of worried that these wouldn’t be pigmented, but they look sooo good. I especially like Extreme Coffee and Extreme Plum Purple.

I’m strangely attracted to Extreme Pink. I don’t even know how I would use it. Anybody out there have suggestions?

I actually really like that one! I like doing a very thin line of it along the upper lash line with lots and lots of mascara. It really opens up the eyes.

Karen, you did a post using the Tokidoki pink liner (donutella?) some time ago, which was awesome. I’m guessing this would be kind of the same? It made me really want to buy it even though I’m terrified of both liquid liner and bright colors. 🙂

Oh yah, the hot pink liner!

If you find the right liquid liner for you they can be quite easy (and fast!) to apply. 🙂 Maybe give these a go? Even if you end up not liking them at least you won’t be out too much because they’re so affordable.

I’ve been hearing great things about NYX. I’ve been afraid of drugstore eyemakeup for years- it never seems to last, it creases, the pigment is terrible, or it flakes. I have always loved my little samples of Lancome shades and the Lancome eyeliner pencil I bought 4 years ago (yes, 4! It’s the best eyeliner pencil I’ve ever found. While it isn’t good for the waterline, it is amazzzzing everywhere else. Glides on so smooth and is only $16) for eye makeup.

Now that I’m in college, department store makeup is a bit harder to afford. I may try one of these to satiate my need for more makeup (I cannot go out of the house without eyeliner and mascara! I feel naked without some eye makeup).

BTW, did you know that the end of September is the best time to go auto shopping? It’s when dealers get the next year’s models, so they need to push the previous year’s stuff off the lots. You can get a really good deal.
