Meet Clinique’s Conservatively Sharp Milly Palette: She’s Pretty in Prints

January 25th, 2011 by Karen 53 Comments

clinique milly pretty in prints palette

Greetings and salutations, mon amie. I wanted to quickly show you the new Clinique Milly Pretty in Prints Palette ($36) in action.

clinique milly pretty in prints palette for spring 2011

What do ya think? I followed the tutorial that comes with the eye and cheek palette this afternoon, and the whole thing took only about 10 minutes to do.

clinique milly pretty in prints fotd tutorial

The palette comes with four shadows and a blush; the shadows contain just the right amount of pigment, and all of them are super easy to blend. Heck, I’d call the palette downright perfect if it wasn’t for the matte brown shade, which left mad fallout on my cheeks when I used it as a liner today (which is what the tutorial suggests).

As for the blush…I love it! It’s like a sheerer, less golden version of NARS Orgasm.

Too bad about the fallout from the matte brown shadow, but it doesn’t doom the palette for me. Next time I’m in a hurry or need to look conservatively sharp, I’ll look for Milly.

PRICE: $36 (also comes with a mini-drawstring pouch)
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Clinique counters and online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A-

      Hi Dani,

They’re not as pigmented as NARS or MAC, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. They blend really easily and on days when I need to look polished in a hurry they totally hit the spot.

If you’re a hard-core pigment fanatic, you might have to wet a brush to apply them to get richer color.

      Hi April,

That’s Laura Mercier Oil-Free Foundation working its magic. It’s kinda heavy for every day wear, but it’s GREAT for pictures. You can read about the foundation/powder combo I use for pics in this post under the section “Face Makeup Products.”

Apart from teh pink (im not a fan of pink shadows) this looks liek a really wearable palette. This would make a great gift for a beginner too.

The pink is here is pretty wearable — it’s not as pigmented as other pinks and has some gold in it that tones it down.

      Hey lady!

That’s Dolce & Gabbana Ultra Shine Gloss in Bon Bon. It’s a little milky at first but after it calms down it looks really pretty and natural.

As for this versus Laura Mercier, that’s a tough call. I love both! If you want warmer colors for work, I’d say go with this one. If you’re looking for slightly cooler shades and more of a party look, then go with LM. I dunno if that helps, LOL! But if you have any more specific questions about either ask away and I’ll try my best to help you decide!

      Hey Steph,

Did you wear it as a liner, too? I used an angled brush to apply it and man… it got all over the place.

Also, from yesterday: your birthday weekend sounds like it was perfect. I’m glad you had fun with your friends and family and also had time to pamper yourself! I hope this next year brings you great things. 🙂

Yeah, I used a dense angled brush to use as a liner and it was quite messy. I’m thinking about wetting the brush with some Fix next time to see if that will control the application better. Did you line your upper lash line too? You can’t really tell in the pic.

Re: my birthday – thanks!! 🙂 I’m hoping for great things. Seems like 99% of my female friends are preggers right now so it’s going to be a busy year filled with baby showers & births! 😀

Great minds think alike! I was planning on doing the same thing. 🙂 And yup, I lined the upper lash line here too… I just smudged the heck out of it because I wanted a softer look.

Oh wow! That’ll be cool to have a whole bunch of kids that grow up together. 🙂 None of my close friends have had kids yet… I’m still waiting to be the cool aunt (because everyone needs a cool aunt). 🙂

I don’t know, is it just me or do most of Clinique’s palettes look alike? I feel like most of their colors are really similar. Or maybe it’s just been such a coincidence that all the Clinique eye shadows I’ve been getting as gifts all have similar shades? 😛 It’s extremely similar to this one right here!

I just ordered the Milly palette and gloss as a pre-order for my BonTon gwp. Should come this week.

Clinique was my makeup standard and all I used until a year ago. I still love Clinique but I’m trying new makeup brands since I discovered Sephora when I moved.
