MAC Adoring Carmine 3 Rose Lips: A Pink Lipstick Double Play

October 26th, 2008 by Karen 40 Comments

The 3 Rose Lips set ($35.50) from the MAC Adoring Carmine holiday collection makes my pink lipstick-obsessed heart flutter.

Yeah, you might think the red patent bag looks a bit cheesy — it’s more dominatrix than happy holidays — but if you can overlook that, then this lip set is totes worth your attention.

What You Get: Pink-a-licious Goodness

  • To Swoon For: A creamy mauve pink lipstick in the MAC Glaze finish — thin and light on the lips and delivers light to medium coverage. Expect a natural pink lip flush.
  • Romancin’: A creamy magenta lipstick in the MAC Lustre finish. With medium coverage and a slightly thicker feel on the lips than the Glaze finish, Romancin’ reminds me of a perfect pink rose petal.
  • Delicate Crush Lipglass: A shimmery cool mauve pink. Delicate Crush was my least favorite of the three products in the set. By itself it looks milky and kinda sickly on my pucker; I think pairing it with a pink liner like MAC Pink Treat Cremestick Liner would make it much more wearable.

From left to right: To Swoon For, Romancin’, Delicate Crush

MAC Adoring Carmine: 3 Rose Lips

Price: $35.50
Use: A set of two pink lipsticks and one pink lipgloss
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

If only the Lipglass were a different shade of pink (I could always do with another tube of Nymphette), this set would score a home run. Instead, it’s a solid double play, and the two lipsticks make worthy additions to my pink lipstick team!

Sunny Saturday

Yesterday ’twas a beautiful fall day here in the SF Bay Area. It reached about 80 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, so I went for a run. The fact that winter’s around the corner made it a melancholy jog, but we takes what we can get.

I had the house to myself last night because El Hub volunteered to play a zombie in our community’s local haunted house. He had to do his own zombie makeup… but he said he learned a thing or two listening to me talk about makeup over the years. He went for a smokey zombie eye, LOL!

I stayed home to have a few hours to myself for makeup playtime and reality TV, ya know?

Hope you had a fantastic Saturday! Got any plans for today?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Day 4: still no Tabs… 🙁

    A smokey zombie eye. Brilliant!
I love the two lipsticks, not too fond of the lipglass colour.

I don’t know if you pray, nor will I ask. I hope this doesn’t offend you by me posting it. 🙂 Personally, I’m not very religious, but I find this helps when I lose things (or kitties). If you’re desperate enough to try, might help?

    St. Anthony, St. Anthony
    Please come down
    Tabs is lost
    And can’t be found

Dear St. Anthony, this I pray
Please bring him back, without delay.

Tabs is lost and can’t be found
    Please, St. Anthony, look around.

Good luck! I hope you find him safe and sound.

Hi Karen. Exactly! The lipsticks are so beautiful but I don’t like the lipglass at all. It reminds me of Starlet Kiss which I have but rarely use. I love To Swoon For. I got the Neutral lips instead because I can use all three products.

Thanks. I just checked outside for him and still no sign of my stripey friend. 🙁 I’m just going to hope he comes back soon!

    Hi Gina,

I hope you like Romancin’! It’s like the perfect pink, even on its own! 🙂

Yah, I’ve been seeing Tabs around my ‘hood for about a year. I would see him skulking in the parking lot from time to time, but a few months ago, I decided to buy him a box of Friskies and then next thing I knew he was coming by first thing in the morning and then at night for dinner. I just assumed he adopted us.

I’ve been trying to prepare my heart for something like this… I just hope he is okay, and wherever he is he’s safe and having fun.

    Hi Karen B.,

LOL, he did a pretty good job. He layered different shades of black and gray, and then used his finger to smoke out the line (his exact words, no joke!).

Yeah, the Lipglass has gotta go, eeek!

    Hi Miss QQ,

Yeah, I tried to make the Lipglass work with the other shades and it just wasn’t happening. What do you think of the packaging this year? It’s probably my least favorite out of the last three MAC Holiday releases.

    Hi Indian Girl,

Me too! I like it because it’s not too light or chalky, which I’ve found sometimes happens with lighter mauve pinks.

I hope you have a good day, too! Got anything exciting on your plate?

Oh no, Tabs please come back! I thought of him this morning and had to check your blog to see the update. Smokey eyed zombie is a new thing for me. Did he use the 219 to smoke out the line? I want a picture of your husband donning the smokey zombie FOTD 🙂

The lipsticks are very pretty, but I’m with ya on the lipglass! It would’ve been a lot nicer with something sheerer and not so milky!

Oh, I hope Tabs comes back soon! I’ve been there, and it’s horrible! 🙁 Please tell me if there’s anything I can do!

    Hi Dao,

LOL, I dunno, I think he used his fingers. As much as I love him, I wouldn’t let him take my MAC brushes to the haunted house. Last night as I was falling asleep I actually thought that I should’ve taken a picture of his eye, ha ha ha! It looked pretty good.

Yeah, I keep looking outside to see if he’s there. 🙁

    TABS! *runs around frantically* TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABS!

Is he tattooed and microchiped? At this point an animal shelter might have scooped him up thinking no human belongs to him. One of my cat books also suggested leaving a bowl of dry food outside to tempt the kitty back into the house area. Its possible he’s in the near area, stubbronly enjoying freedom.

I’m sorry to hear Tabs is still MIA. I’m sure he’ll come home soon!

I’m loving the look of this kit too…damn you MAC, damn you!

At the moment I’m not really saving so much as having to pay for a bunch of stuff. I’ve just joined the gym so that has taken a big old bite out of my makeup kitty each month, but I’m at the point where I need to feel healthier. I’ve also just signed up to take a couple of distance-learning courses which I’m paying for too. They’re both great things to be doing, but it means I can’t splurge on make up as much as I’d like for a few months.

I hope you’re having a great sunday. I’ve been pretty lazy. Slept til about noon, went to the gym and then chilled out for the rest of the evening. I can’t believe the weekend has passed so fast though!

Romancin’ is BEAUTIFUL! I might buy the set just for that.

I, too, had a stripey boy cat adopt me a couple years ago. He came into my life and filled it with joy and light, and then he ran away 4 months later. Those boy tabbies love and leave. I hope your little man comes home soon!

    Hi Tekoa,

I didn’t know you could get cats tats to identify them. I plan on bringing him to the vet next week to get him snipped and microchipped. 🙂

Hopefully we’ll move in a few months to a bigger spot so he can be an indoor kitty. I just hope he doesn’t disappear before then!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
