Lovely Luxuries: Bliss Ingrown Eliminating Pads

September 8th, 2009 by Karen 19 Comments

bliss-ingrown-eliminating-pads

Grab your favorite razor, girls, and skip with me down to the land of smooth, bump-free skin. Say hola to Bliss Ingrown Eliminating Pads ($38 for 50 pads).

It’s hard to believe how fast time flies, but ’round these parts Labor Day means we’ve reached the unofficial end of summer, and THAT means ye olde swimsuit will soon be retired. 🙁

Of course, just because the two-piece goes into hibernation for a while doesn’t mean I won’t want to shave and/or wax.

That’s where Bliss Ingrown Eliminating Pads come into play. They help treat and prevent the ingrown hairs and razor bumps that can result from shaving and waxing.

Ingrown hairs begone!

The geniuses at Bliss soak these disposable round pads (they’re about the size of my palm) with exfoliating salicylic and glycolic acids and pack them with oat extract, witch hazel and lavender oil to soothe freshly groomed parts.

Convenient AND easy

Convenience is a big deal for me, so I like how the pads come pre-soaked in their easy-to-open jar.

With one I’ll gently wipe my ‘stash, ‘pits, legs, toes (yup, I went there), bikini line — basically everywhere I’ve shaved, waxed or plucked.

By the next day after use, any red bumps or ingrown hairs I may have had have disappeared. It’s magic worthy of Hogwarts, I tell ya! Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

In general, Bliss products are expensive, and Ingrown Eliminating Pads are no exception. To stretch my dollars, I’ll cut them in half (or sometimes fourths) to extend the life of a jar.

Drugstore alternative

If you’re ballin’ on a budget, consider Gigi No Bump Rx Treatment ($9, available at Sally Beauty Supply). This liquid exfoliator works like the Bliss Pads do but comes in a bottle; you provide the cotton ball. 🙂 The product may lack the Bliss convenience and packaging, but it basically does the same thing for a lot less dinero.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Don’t know about salicylic, but glycolic acids do help! I usually have some problems with ingrown hairs but since I use a glycolic-based cream my skin is so much better. 🙂

      Hi Eru,

Salicylic acid (BHAs) are a godsend for my skin. They clear up stuff without over-drying. Love it!

What glycolic cream are you using? Can I get it here in the US?

I totally hear ya on these pads — they’re great! I tend to get a bit bumpy, so I made the jump and got these babies. Good call!

      Hi Jeanne,

I think these pads are one of those hidden treasures. Apparently you can also apply them to bumpy areas on the arms, too.

BTW, I was at the Nordstrom SF NARS yesterday and I thought of that day I met you! Have you been rockin’ your NARS lately?

Karen, do you know if anyone else is having some issues with your site? It started yesterday, ahd I can’t click onto you in my favorites without the computer telling me I’m having connection problems. Even when I try doing it a backward way, the same thing. Just wanted to know. Yours is the only site that’s giving me probs. It’s so frustrating when I so desperately want to read the latest news!

    Hi Nancy,

Could be. Thanks for letting me know. I just asked the readers in a post if they’re also having problems. It could have something to do with some updates I’ve done lately. If it’s not too much to ask, would you mind letting me know if the problems continue for you tomorrow? Thank you.

So these would work on brows too right? Because every time I get my brows waxed, I get redness & bumps for a couple of days. I even apply Boo Boo Zap & it doesn’t prevent it from happening.

      Hi Marisol,

Yup, they should. Don’t forget to use sunscreen!

My MIL swears by Boo Boo Zap. I haven’t tried it in years — I should give it another go.

So how do you use these things? Heehee, I don’t know if such a product exists here in the Philippines. Huh.

      Hi Gn,

You wait a day after shaving or waxing and then gently rub the pad on the areas. Super easy!

This sounds like a very good buy for you Karen. I agree that even though fall is approaching it doesn’t mean I have to let myself go and stop deforestation! LOL!
It is a little pricey for me right now, as an alternative I might just stop by my local organic food store and buy some of the same ingredients to try make my own concoction. 🙂

      Hi Amy,

Good idea! I’m guessing you might be able to use a gentle toner with plant-derived glycolics. If you find something good please share. 🙂

Ugh, if I let my fur go during the summer months it is NOT a pretty sight. Then again, I guess it adds an element of warmth, like an extra layer of clothing. 🙂

Super smart to cut them in half! I just may do that for my Physicians Formula Organic Eye Make-up Remover pads. I love them, and they aren’t that expensive, but every penny saved counts, right?

This is definitely something that I would try. I sometimes get ingrowns around my bikini area, and it’s very annoying. I usually use Bikini Zone for that, but I’ll definitely pick this up next time I’m at Sephora.
