Long Lasting Luxury By Terry: By Terry Blush Veloute Sheer Cream Blush in Ginger Glaze Goes the Distance

June 12th, 2012 by Karen 29 Comments

by terry blush veloute in ginger glaze

If/when French makeup artist Terry de Gunzburg’s friends ever kid around with her, she can always reply, “Oh, yeah? Well I invented Touche Éclat.”

Wow. Touché.

By Terry Blush Veloute Sheer Cream BlushThat was for Yves Saint Laurent, but Terry also has her own makeup line called By Terry, and I think at least one of its products, the $46 cream-to-powder Blush Veloute Sheer Cream Blush, deserves a cult following of its own.

What is it exactly?

It’s expensive, for starters, only available in three shades — Peach Nude, Ginger Glaze and Apple Glow — and not widely carried (I’ve only seen it online and at Barneys in SF).

But I think if it were more widely available, many makeup lovers would consider it a department store star.

Not only does this luxuriously silky cream blush have an incredibly natural-looking matte finish, but it also goes the distance with remarkable wear time.

How remarkable?

Well, it could outlast a parental lecture on responsibility (Zzzz…), an awkward family function, the director’s cut of Apocalypse Now, that painful community theater version of Hair that your BFF dragged you to (“holy sh*t…everybody’s naked!”), and STILL end the day with wear time to spare.

I wore peachy brown Ginger Glaze to jury duty yesterday, and it clung to my combination dry/oily cheeks through a 14-hour day, which featured 90-degree temps and a close blush brush with anarchy!

Aside from its price, it’s the stuff of dreams…

I only recently discovered the line, but it’s been around for a while.

Better late than never, I guess. 🙂

PRICE: $46 each (available in three shades)
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Barneys stores and online at barneys.com, bigelowchemists.com and beautybar.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (an A+ if not for the price)

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I have 3 of her powder blushes in Hypnotic Copper, Erotic Pink and Beach Bomb and I LOVE them all. I definitely gotta check out more of her products and these cream blushers may be next. =D By the way, I’m surprised that they’re significantly less expensive than the powder blushes, which retails $75

      Hi Joyce,

I’ll have to look into those powder blushes! Thanks for the recommendation.

      Hi Musical,

Thanks lady! I’m wearing a dress by Abi Ferran. The colors remind me of the ocean!

Hope you’re having a good day so far. 🙂

I have her Rose Fluid Blush-picked it up for 50% off when Sephora was discontinuing carrying the line and I LOVE it. I would have picked up more stuff, but it was already picked over. This sounds like the perfect cream blush and looks very natural on you!

Ok, I just have to say: this is really very pretty and all, but $46 for 0.1 oz. of product? Holy jesus, no thanks. I love my high-end blushes and have paid $50 for a blush without batting an eye (ok…maybe a little), but I was getting about 0.25 oz. of product. Givenchy, Burberry, Dior…all give you at least 0.2 oz.

If you’re looking for a comparable cream blush, check out the Le Metier de Beaute Creme Fresh Tint in Ginger Lily or Tenne. They give you 0.17 oz. for $28

      Hi Becca,

The great thing about this product is you don’t have to use a lot of it, plus, since it sticks around all day, there’s no need to reapply. I’m betting that amount could go a LONG way.

I have one word for you, Karen: HOW. I can never manage to balance products on my forearms! 😀

The prices of By Terry products always frighten me a little (okay, a lot), but that said — they do sound pretty fabulous. It’s great to read about brands that consistently produce great products, even if they’re out of my price range!

      Hi Rae,

LOL, I dunno…I’m awful at any physical activity that involves flying objects, but when it comes to balancing stuff I do okay.

I always keep track on your products previews. I like how you present each item. It makes me wanna grab one and give it a try.
Cream blush looks good on your skin tone.
Want to try on peach nude, but I think I can’t afford to spend my cash on it.

Man, you’re too pretty in these pictures! I can find the line here (though I’m not 100% sure we get EVERYTHING), but I haven’t really looked into it. I’ve been looking for a coral/peach cream blush though, so maybe I’ll look around to see if I can find Peach Nude! 14 hours are impressive for wear, but yeah the price isn’t very friendly.

It kills me that the By Terry line isn’t more readily available, because I really want to try it but am too lazy (and spoiled with makeup products already) to chase after them. Those blushes look *gorgeous*. Thanks for reviewing!
