Lippmann Collection Says Happy Birthday to You with Lots of Glitter Love

October 22nd, 2009 by Karen 55 Comments

lippmann happy birthday

The year was 1999… I’d finished school and moved back in with my parental units while I looked for a job and tried to unwind.

My BFF/dancing buddy J. Money and I were also deep in our clubbing phase. I’ll never forget — it was the same thing every time we’d go out. One of our Filipino parents would ask, “Are you girls going to the disco?”

LOL!

Or, “Are you going disco-disco?”

Hearing parental units refer to “the club” as a disco… That’s just so funny. It always cracked us up. 🙂

Still, there are times when “disco” just feels like the better word, ya know? — like when it comes to Lippmann Collection’s Happy Birthday ($18), the newest addition to their permanent nail polish line.

This stuff’s so blinged out and sparkly that it would be a shame not to wear it to “the disco,” ha!

It’s all about taking glitter to the next level, with bits in a plethora of shapes, colors and sizes — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and silver.

For a full-on, eyes-rolling-to-the-back-of-the-head glitter-gasm, try three coats. 🙂

Three coats!

Two coats — when you’re in the mood for quieter glitter

So far I’ve only worn Happy Birthday by itself, but I’m guessing it would look extra festive layered beneath a polish in solid black or red.

Removing glittery nail polishes can be a major chore. This post here might help.

I bet Happy Bday makes a great gift, too. It’s aptly named, after all. Maybe with some sweet treats, a Laguna Beach: Season One DVD and one of those Sephora gift cards…

Only thing is the $18 part. That’s kinda pricey for a nail polish, but with all the various glitter shapes and sizes, it seems like a unique product. I can’t remember seeing something like it before.

Because it’s Lippmann, it’s durable, resists chipping and doesn’t contain nasty formaldehyde, toluene, and dibutyl phthalate.

Wearing it, I can’t help but grin and feel a little happier than I was a moment ago. I’d be even happier if it were cheaper, LOL! But C’est la vie. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+

Time for an intervention

*Ring-a-ling-a-ling!!*

Hello?

Yes, hello, Karen, this is destiny. I’m calling to tell you that you’re still on track to becoming a Crazy Cat Lady.

Oh, good. 🙂

Last night I had to do some shopping at Target. It wasn’t until I was in line at the checkout that I fully realized what I’d done. I only got a few things; in addition to some Soap and Glory products (reviews coming soon!) and a massive tub of rocky road ice cream, I’d also acquired an outfit for Tabs.

He looks so professional, doesn’t he? In his little blue tie?

Now he needs his own desk, too, and some Post-Its. Maybe also an abacus. Hmm…

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

This shade is so pretty, I would wear it on top of a creamy sky blue but every time I see chunky glitter on my nail, all I feel like doing is to to pick them out…

…A cat tie? LOL, you never fail to crack me up! That reminds me of when I used to dress my cat up in doll clothes and carry him around in a basket. He hated it, despite the fact that I told him girl kitties love a cat who’s in touch with his feminine side.

Hi Karen! As maybe you already now I’m not a fan of glitter ( makeup or nailpolish) but I can’t help loving this one. It makes me happy only looking at it and I could use it on one of those clubbing nights when most of my outfit is black. This should really look like an interesting color spot :). Can fancy nail polishes be considered accessories when all your outfit is simple? 🙂

Although if it’s 18 in the US, it will be hella expensive here in Australia.

I’m not a fan of glitter on nails but this is awesome. Something I’d actually consider buying, if it weren’t for the price! How about doing a DIY version? I think clear nail polish and craft glitter would do the trick, what say you? 😉

A DIY version would be totally easy, methinks. I’d probably lay down a layer of clear polish first, sprinkle on the craft glitter, and then pop another layer on top. If you end up doing it let me know how it turns out!

:giggles: Tabs is going to look so cute in that!

I’m trying to decide which sweater would put Zena in for Sunday. She will hopefully be getting blessed. Apparently, my parents’ church blessing pets. The Little Stinker outfit is out as that would be ridiculous; ditto for the Christmas sweater. So I’m stuck between two green argyles and a blue sweater. Maybe I should put her in a ribbon. I haven’t decided.

I’ve decided to take the night off for essays. I finally got rid of my stress migraine when I decided no essays for tonight. Or homework for that matter. Three days of essay writing is detrimental to my mind it seems. No mentioning choir or essays or homework. It is my night off. Whee!!!

Oh yea, I also learned a very important lesson. The Seche line and Orly Bonder do not agree with me. Seche contains toulene which feels like it’s sinking into my nails all the way down to my finger nerves. Can I say that hurt really, really, really badly? I was not a happy nail polish addict. The Bonder contains Formaldehyde resin which is bad, bad, bad for me. I’m allergic to formaldehyde in every form. I can’t wear my falsies because my falsies glue has formaldehyde in it (yep, Duo has formaldehyde). I don’t even want to know what the formaldehyde is used for in the glue.

One migraine and a good sloughing off nail polish later, I can say with absolute certainty have learned my lesson. Stick to the Borghese Presto Top Coat (or OPI Rapidry) and OPI Natural Base Coat. Apparently, my habit of reading every single label went on vacation when I saw them on sale at some random drugstore a few weeks ago. It’s 3-Free for Kate from now on.
