Lip Look: Shu Uemura Gloss Unlimited in RD 165N

March 29th, 2008 by Karen 25 Comments

I’m still crushing big time on red lipgloss (sorry, pink), and yesterday I got my fix with Shu Uemura’s Gloss Unlimited in RD 165N ($22).

Hot, yah? The color makes me look like I just ate a whole bag of red Jolly Rancher candies, but I think it even looks brighter in the tube than it does on my lips.

Gloss Unlimited RD 165N has a light orange scent and feels thinner than Clinique’s Cherry Bomb. Despite its consistency, Gloss Unlimited didn’t dry out my lips when I used it on Friday. I had to apply it a few times throughout the day, but because of how moisturizing it is, I didn’t mind.

The sponge applicator deserves mentioning. It’s long compared to MAC and Clinique lipgloss applicators and has a pointed tip, not a slanted one like regular doe foot applicators. The design made gloss a little easier to apply on my lower lip and into corners.

To get this look, I lined the edges of my lips with MAC Subculture lip liner before applying two coats of RD 165N.

And it’s a versatile color, too. A girl can get away with wearing it in many different situations. It’s a natural enough shade to wear during the day but still has enough pizazz to work at night.

What do you think about this shade?

Purchase Shu Uemura Gloss Unlimited at your favorite Shu counter or online at shuuemura-usa.com.

Yay! Aren’t you glad it’s Saturday? This morning I slept in and caught up on some glorious REM sleep! Today’s gonna be a mellow veg day for me, and I’m totally cool with that. If I’m feeling ambitious, I may hit up Trader Joe’s (love you, TJ!), but that’s about all the effort I’m willing to expend. What are your plans for today?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I love the subtle sparkle! Hope you rocked the aisles at TJ’s! Don’t forget that mac & cheese! Oh, the new, frozen panna cotta is seriously good too! 😉

I like the look of that applicator! Honestly I dont know who came up with the original idea of having those sort of applicators in glosses rather than a brush because they make applying gloss over lipstick so much more difficult!

Im so excited for the new aqua lumiere glosses to come out at Chanel with the brush applicators they look amazing! I am being sent for some training on the new products we have coming in around the middle of April so I am hoping we will get some goodies!! I cant wait to try the new spf50 moisturiser too!

Sheer red lip gloss is one of my favorites! I’m also loving the hot pink lip this spring, but sheer red gloss is absolutely my favorite go-to lip. My favorite is Fresh’s Sugar Shag (it smells like lemon drops!), but that Shu Uemura gloss is beautiful!

Rauw! This is a great red shade. As you say it’s natural enough for day but still sparkly 🙂

    Hi Glosslizard,

Ha ha ha, I rue the day you introduced the frozen TJ’s Mac & Cheese into my life. Dang that stuff is good. 🙂

Right now I’m loving on their frozen chicken fajita mix! 🙂

    Hi Holly,

What’s the applicator like on those new glosses? And girl, I’m with Glosslizard… gimme that SPF 50.

BTW, I got a wee jar of Sublimage for the eyes and unfortunately, I love it. Sigh.

    Hi Dao,

That’s the perfect way to describe it. It’s red without being too in-your-face or clown-scary, ha!

    Hi Jeanne,

I wish this Shu gloss had a cute name like Sugar Shag instead of the RD 165N! I love hot pink too but had to take a lil’ break in the pink storm, if you know what I mean. What are your favorite hot pinks? I hope you have Lancome’s Seashell Pink up in the mix!

    Hi Breezy!

Not to feed the fire (heh!) but the shade is oh so flexible. You can just throw one layer on for the sheerest touch of red, or build it up like I did in the pic above. I have my tube sitting on my desk right now so I’m gonna put some on. It will look fetching with my plaid pajamas, LOL!

    Hi Karen B.,

Yup! And it’s “good” sparkle too, not cheesy, chunky sparkle. 🙂

    Hi Glosslizard,

    Hi Karen,

The applicator is a lip brush, i have only seen the photographs they send to the counter so far but am going for some trainig soon so hopefully we will get some of them to try out!

Oh no once you have gone down that sublimage track you will never want to go back! I just got my mum the serum actually and she absolutely loves it everybody at Chanel I speak to says its the real jewel of the colection!

I cant quite work out if the spf 50 is going to be enough of a moisturiser on its own or if it will be best used as a primer but i have heard that its really light which is very unusual for such a high factor! Im going ot try to be really good and use it every day!
They should be sending me one out to try soon anyway so I will report back!

    Hi Holly,

Hot! I can’t wait to hear about it after you go to training.

Oh noooo… yeah, I was really shocked to love the eye stuff so much. My fave Chanel MUA hooked it up with samples of the eye, face cream and the serum (which I haven’t tried yet). There goes my wallet, LOL.

I’m hopelessly addicted to Shiseido Face & Body 55 but I will gladly put it aside to try out the SPF 50. I hope it’s rolled out on our side of the pond soon. 🙂

How are things with you? I hope that life’s been less hectic for you…

    Hi Karen,

Oh wow thats good we never get samples of the eye or face cream only ever the serum! But my lucky mum got a whole full sized one because I did a favour for a manager and that was my thanks! I decided to be a nice daughter and let her have it! Also i think 21 may be a tad young for me to get hooked a complete anti ageing system!

How do you find the shiseido spf? Does it feel like you have anything under your foundation?

Things are pretty much the same really, its just so overwhelming having so much going on at once and it feels like forever until it will all be over but im just gonna keep focussing on that long summer ahead of me! And I have just booked a holiday in Rome in August so there is a light at the end of the tunnel 🙂

    Hi Holly,

Girl, it’s never too early to get started on anti-aging. Seriously! The sunscreen is a huge step (don’t forget your neck), but if I could go back to 21 I’d start myself on an anti-aging routine…

The Shiseido SPF is AMAZING. I two versions of it. The thinner version, Face & Body, goes on my neck and any other exposed body parts where I don’t like that sticky “sunscreen” feel (like my arms or legs), and the regular Face version goes on my face! It’s more moisturizing and thicker than the Face & Body version. It never breaks me out and really works!

Hold on and stay focused! I totally know how it feels to be very overwhelmed with life so it’s good that you have a reward to look forward to. Keep you eyes on the prize, girl! 🙂

Hi Karen! thanks for this review-you rock! Both this and the clinique sound like what I was looking for….so now it’s going to be time to decide which one I want. Which one do you think would be better to layer over a lipstick?

    Hi Holly and Karen! 🙂

I like the Shiseido spf 55 too, but I will totally try the Chanel and (if I can afford it) make the switch!

OMG, is that eye cream not the s**t? I was trying every concealer known to man under my eyes until I started using the Sublimage eye (and yes, it started with a sample!). Now I just use a dab of the Teint Innocence compact and my eyes look better than before! The improvement is remarkable!

oh Glosslizard why can’t you live in the UK and shop at my Chanel counter, you would make me some serious comission haha!
sublimage is seriously amazing though, one of my area managers is nearly 50 and I swear she doesnt even look as old as 40 and she puts the whole thing down to the range!
It would be far too rich for my skin at the moment but the moment I see a wrinkle it will be in my collection!

    Hi Amanda,

Hmmm, I think both would work, although I prefer the Shu slightly more for sparkle and richness of color. I think Clinique Cherry Bomb is a better on its own. 🙂

    Hi Glosslizard,

The Shiseido ROCKS. I am almost out and am sort of getting panicky, LOL.

I am halfway done with my tiny sample. The reality of actually buying a jar is starting to set in (sigh!).

If it makes you feel any better, I got the full-size jar at the beginning of December and I think I’m maybe halfway through it (using morning and night)! I honestly think a jar of this lasts 9-12 months! Makeup math, girl! 😉
