Let’s Give a Big Round of Applause for the Lush Tiny Hands Moisturizing Bar

May 3rd, 2011 by Karen 24 Comments

Okay, so it kinda looks like an artifact from Raiders of the Lost Ark — a relic buried long ago in a booby trapped cave. But it’s not. The new Lush Tiny Hands Moisturizing Bar shouldn’t be hidden from prying eyes. No, it should be cautiously (more on that in a sec) brought forth from its little tin and given a big round of applause.

After doing some spring cleaning last weekend, my hands looked rough, cracked and felt sore (and don’t even get me started on my cuticles). My paws needed a hand, so I took it as an opportunity to test Lush’s solid moisturizing bar.

Like a solid serum, it’s designed to soften and soothe with aloe vera, as well as argan oil and cocoa and shea butters, yet it still doesn’t leave a slick or oily residue behind.

The first thing I noticed: the scent, which Lush describes as a mix of sweet vanilla and mild florals. It’s so strong that just opening the tin fills the entire room. In a way, it’s like a beauty booby trap (once it even made me sneeze!).

Luckily, it works well as a moisturizer and absorbs faster than I thought it would, which to me makes up for the fragrant wake-up call. Really, I don’t mind the scent when the bar’s been allowed to breathe, but after being sealed in the reusable tin for a while, it sure gets intense.

No biggie, though. I think the idea’s actually pretty neat, even though I find regular moisturizer dispensers easier to control, and I’m giving Lush Tiny Hands Moisturizing Bar a round of applause for cuteness and price.

PRICE: $5.95 for a 2.1-oz. bar
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Lush stores and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+ (an A- if the scent wasn’t quite as strong)

Happy Tuesday!

Good morning, young lady. 🙂 How’s it going today? And what are we having for breakfast? I’m starved! Hmm…perhaps a bowl of oatmeal with a cup of green tea?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

This is sort of a neat idea. I thought it would just be a “moisturizing” soap. I’m such a fan of the pump that I don’t think I would like this option as much. I feel like even pop-up caps are a nuisance. Talk about spoiled, I know! 🙂

how cute is that?! i’m a sucker for lush’s moisturizing products so i’ll definitely be checking this out. i really hope the scent’s not too strong since i’m pretty sensitive… although, vanilla IS my favourite scent so MAYBE it won’t bother me so much.

How cute! There is a Lush store within my local Macys. I’ll have to see if they carry this.

I do prefer my moisturizers in a cream form but I am a big fan of Lush and understand their concept of making a lot of their products in solid form so as to produce little waste. My skin really seems to like their face creams and lotions. Is it just me or do a lot of Lush items have a distinct frangrance? Even with the different scents I always can tell it’s from Lush, I can’t decribe it but it’s like the undertone, or lower notes, have s signature smell. I wonder if this will be the same.

I’ve used a few of Lush’s things, and I just can’t get into it. I bought the conditioning moisturizing bar on the recommendation of an SA, and it just didn’t do anything at all for my skin, still dry as the Sahara. Sigh. Any recommendations for a truly rich cream? From Lush or anywhere else?

I use a lotion from Lush called Dream Cream which is really really good and has a great scent. I hope that its available in the US (if thats where you live).

Well , first of all you need to drink a lot of water , then….try deodorized lanolin, it’s really good and greasy, and also the best thing and only thing that works for my dry hands in winter is Emu oil, a life saver.

Hmmm thanks Maya! I’ll check out the Dream Cream! I think I’ve played with it before, but the smell was too much for me.

and Saby, I drink so much water, it’s a wonder I don’t just float away hahaha. Where would I get the lanolin? Or Emu oil, I suppose. I’m not on the up and up with non-commercial moisturizers, fail.

I get mine from Ebay, where I live none is available on the market. Both are great for the rest of the skin too. Since I am in the beauty business I don’t pay to much money on expensive creams, since all are pretty much the same basic stuff. These two products are the only ones that worked for me. Also, if you are looking for great skincare products, try NUXE, they are the best of the best. Good luck !

I haven’t ever bought anything from LUSH because their prices are pretty steep and I don’t have a LUSH store anywhere near me to go check them out in person (which might sway me). But this bar is cute and doesn’t seem that expensive!

I love this bar but it can be a real pain to use it sometimes (I’m way too clumsy). So it’s usually tubes for me. I wish I could finish my cleaning too, sigh.

Too bad the scent is so strong. I rarely like a fragrance enough to tolerate it at high doses. Still, this is pretty cute/weird. I think I’d try it anyway.

I have really been wanting to try out some Lush products (love the concept) but can’t bring myself to go in the store…the one and only time I went into one I had a huge sneezing fit and had to leave immediately. I will definitely have to pass on this particular product based on the sneeze factor alone but more reviews like this one would be most excellent – then I can order the really good stuff online sans sniffles. 😀

How cute! I prefer cream moisturizers but I like the concept of this one and it’s not too expensive so I think I may give it a go. 🙂

I have allergies and this scent reminds me of fresh marigolds or something, lol. Its not bad, but not really great in my opinion. However, i LOVE this moisturizer, although to me its alot like a hand serum instead. Definitely a great product.

Hmmm, I will have to smell this the next time I trek downtown and visit the Lush store. I love most of their massage bars (meltable solids). Some of them have the perfect glide for a relaxation massage. However, some of their scented massage bars are overpowering strong! Not in a good way. I was so utterly disappointed when they switched the Therapy Bar’s cocoa butter to organic/unprocessed. EWWW! Give me the less smelly processed cocoa butter any day!

as long as it doesnt smell bad…if it was at target or something id porbably give it a try, but since its not i highly doubt i will. ive never seen, or even heard of a lush store for that matter, so im pretty sure there isnt one close by.

hmm oatmeal sounds kinda good. whats your favorite flavor? i like maple brown sugar

That is adorable! My hands are sooo dry right now. I’m tempted to try this even though I’m slightly frightened about the scent strength. 😉
