Lancôme Ôscillation Intensity PowerMascara: Just Because Something Shakes, Doesn’t Mean It Can Dance

June 4th, 2011 by Karen 15 Comments

Lancome Oscillation Intensity

Lancôme’s betting their latest vibrating mascara wand will work wonders on your lashes. Ôscillation Intensity PowerMascara ($34) is basically an upgrade of the company’s O.G. Ôscillation, which was one of the first pulsating wands to shimmy across makeup counters.

Like its predecessor, it oscillates an astounding-sounding 7,000 times per minute (dude, that’s a lot!), but Lancôme says this one’s fuller brush helps it wrap each lash with more mascara for a bolder, longer lash look. And the mascara itself? According to Lancôme, it contains the highest concentration of carbon black pigments on the market.

Before (top) and after two coats (bottom)

Two coats turn my fringe a fabulous pitch black, but they leave me hanging in terms of thickness and length, neither of which it enhances anywhere near as much as my current mascara crush, a combination of UD Cannonball and Buxom Amplified.

The formula also flakes throughout the day and, as if that wasn’t bad enough, relaxes the curl from my Shu Uemura Lash Curler (BOO!).

With PowerMascara, I think Lancôme has proven that just because something shakes, doesn’t mean it can dance. It looks like my quest to find a fantastic vibrating mascara wand continues!

PRICE: $34
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Lancôme counters, stores and also online

I have to say, this mascara technology stuff is ridiculous. Vibrating mascara, light up mascara..? Yes, cosmetics companies, I want to use a small lightbulb to blind myself while simultaneously putting an object that moves quickly and on its own NEAR MY EYEBALL. Psssh.

I know this one doesn’t do both, but it’s only a matter of time before someone comes out with one that does. No eyeball will be left unpoked.

Hahaha… that is so true! I think I’ll stick with low-tech mascara myself.

I’ve never tried any vibrating mascaras yet. I just don’t understand why I’d need this gimmick at all.

Although your lashes look even more beautiful with this mascara on, vibrating mascara’s aren’t really for me… I’ll just stick to my old non-vibrating (lol) mascara’s 🙂

Yeah… I’ve never had any desire to try these vibrating mascaras. I got the Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara as part of a free gift set recently though, and WOW… my new favorite! Love Definicils too. I’m loving a lot of Lancome stuff lately… Teint Idole foundation and the Genifique serum too 🙂

I wish Lancome would drop the gimmicks. They have so many fantastic mascaras, that something like this just seems ridiculous and unnecessary to me.

Never tested those vibrating mascaras. They scare me a bit. Poking my eyes with them, would not be such a nice experience.

I’m partial to a combo of Dior Show Extase and Ultraflesh Panthera mascara together.

I don’t really think any mascara is going to live up to its own hype. I just stick with tube mascaras because I’m a lazy bum and hate removing mascara with anything but water. That being said I really like MAC’s Opulash. 🙂

I have an amusing mental picture of the mess that would be all around my eyes if I used a vibrating mascara. 🙂 Major disappointment on the formula, though. Gimmicky wands aside, you’d think they could at least have a strong performing mascara. There doesn’t seem to be much good to be said about this one.

These mascara gimmicks are ridiculous to me. Its like that Heineken commercial that says beer doesn’t need a “window” to tell if its cold because you have hands. If I really want a shaky mascara wand I could just tape it to my cell phone while its on vibrate haha

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
