JK Jemma Kidd Fashion Palette: Imagine Effortless Smokey Eyes and Nude Lips

November 18th, 2008 by Karen 31 Comments

Hustle that booty down to Tar-ghay, girlfriend, and pick yourself up a JK Jemma Kidd Fashion Palette ($36) ASAP!

A face of the day with the JK Jemma Kidd Fashion Palette

Fashion Palette appears low-key in the box, I know. But trust me, if you like effortless makeup that looks elegant and doesn’t require too much fuss, then you’ll love this palette.

The palette comes with five essential products to create a classic smokey eye and nude lip look: two large pans of eyeshadow, a mini-kohl liner and two medium-sized pans of nude lip glosses.

  • Shimmery beige eyeshadow
  • Shimmery cool dark brown eyeshadow with bronze pearl (amazing!)
  • Black pencil eyeliner with silver glitter
  • Creamy pink lipgloss
  • Shimmery beige lipgloss

All Five Products in Fashion Palette Bring It

Finely milled and heavily pigmented, both the eyeshadows perform similarly to Shu Uemura shadows, applying smoothly without any grit and blending with ease. Even when I build up the layers, Fashion Palette’s shadows never look caked on or heavy. While the shimmery beige shadow (which reminds me of MAC Shroom) looks beautiful, the real stunner is the dark brown. It has tiny flecks of bronze glitter, which give it texture and added depth.

From left to right: black liner, beige shadow, brown shadow, pink gloss, beige gloss

The black kohl liner performs just as well, gliding smoothly along the lash line. It blends and smudges to the will of my brushes and fingers without any resistance.

Surprisingly, I didn’t find the medium-sized silver glitter in this pencil annoying. The flecks add just enough pow to keep the eye look from being too safe or boring!

The glosses are the last step that pull the look together. Both shades have medium pigmentation, feel smooth and non-sticky on my pucker and are free from taste and smell. In the pics above and below, I used a MAC 316 Covered Lip Brush to apply the pink gloss all over the lips and then dotted the beige gloss onto the center of the lower lip.

Brushes to Use With Fashion Palette

Fashion Palettes comes with easy-to-follow instructions on the box, which break down the steps of the smokey eye look. However, the instructions don’t indicate what brushes to use with the products (drat). I ended up using a MAC 252 Eye Shader Brush to apply the beige shade all over the lid, a MAC 212 Pencil Brush to blend out the edges of the liner and a MAC 239 Eye Shading Brush to sweep the brown shade on the lid and into the crease.

For the Makeup Minimalist or the Seasoned Traveler

If you’re the type of gal who likes streamlined makeup then you’ll probably love Fashion Palette. Also, if you prefer to wear neutrals when you’re traveling, this palette easily gives you both day and night makeup options. All you have to add is your blush, mascara and perhaps a lipstick if you want a bolder lip look at night. This palette will probably be in my bag when I leave for Florida on Thursday at the butt crack of dawn to make my 6 am flight!

JK Jemma Kidd Fashion Palette

Price: $36
Use: To achieve an effortless and elegant smokey eye and pale lip look
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

The Price is Right

JK Jemma Kidd is one of Target’s high end makeup lines, so I think the $36 pricing is on target (ha, pardon the pun) for what you get. The pans of product are large and they perform well. I know I’ll get plenty of use out of every item in the palette… and that’s a rare thing!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Karen,

I like your sassy top! Very cute.

That brown has me contemplating the $36 dollar price tag alone–I like that it doesn’t have any red undertones in it.

It looks so simple but really packs a punch!

Very pretty! The eye shades remind me of the shadow duo I just got in the Too Faced Loves Kipling set I just got at Sephora! Beautiful!

    Hey Karen,

I took a look at this kit the last time I was at Target. It honestly didn’t do anything for me. But now that I have seen how it looks on you (amazing!) I might have to pick one up 🙂

I so don’t like the looks of the palette but I love the look you are rocking there. I don’t know if it’s the combo of the hair pulled back or the colourful top and smokey makeup but you look ready for Florida!

Karen, you look amazing! I love your funky top & the pretty makeup to match! I find all the new designer makeup at Target to be so expensive, but wow, your review has me thinking about Jemma Kidd! I might be adding this to my Christmas wishlist haha. The dark brown e/s sounds nice!

I like this look on you Karen! Pretty is the word! Love the outfit and the accessories 🙂 Wow, Jemma Kidd — from Neiman Marcus to Target! Target has really morphed — no complaining here — all the lux sans the snoot!

    Hi P. Potter,

Oh yes… it’s a *great* cool brown. Hmm, have you ever tried MAC Concrete? It’s a matte, dark brown that has no red undertone at all. I use it for my brows, but have also busted it out for a smokey eye.

    Hi Tami,

Yay! Funny thing is when I first saw it, I didn’t think it would do much for me either. It just goes to show you that you never know what makeup will reveal until you try it on and play with it.

    Hi Shiny,

Thanks. 🙂 I tried something new with the hair… I finally caved in after seeing so many girls walking around with volume in their bangs. I haven’t done that since, oh, 1991, LOL.

    Hi Jessica,

Thanks! I hope you try it. It’s a very easy look to do and very elegant. 🙂

Thanks for asking about my mom-in-law. We got some news today… she’ll have to go back in for more surgery. El Hub and I are waiting for more details. It’s been a rough day…

You look ridiculously gorgeous! This looks like a really nice palette. I tried some JK stuff in Target when it first came over. I wasn’t wowed by the eye shadows, especially for the price. Maybe these are better. I get really grossed out whenever I go to look at makeup in my Target because the place is always a mess. There’s makeup and stuff smudged everywhere – ick.

It’s the cutest little kit… I’ve been wanting to try out the Shadow Insurance, and this seemed like a really fun way to do it! Got it with the FF discount and I’ve been having fun with it!
