I’ve Waited Forever to Make This Statement: I Finally Found a Comfortable Tortoise-Shell Headband (Thanks, Goody!)

June 15th, 2011 by Karen 58 Comments

Let me tell you, it is NOT easy to find a comfortable tortoise-shell headband. Most are made out of stiff plastic that squeezes the life out of my noggin, giving me headaches. I do love how they look, though — so preppy and chic. So very J. Crew, which is why I keep trying to find a great one.

I never thought I’d actually find it for $5, but I think I have, in the form of the tortoise-shell headwrap from the Goody Statements collection (available exclusively at Target). I guess in a world where there can be a fourth season of a show like Jersey Shore, anything is possible.

Instead of a rigid band, it’s a soft, flexible plastic one with a tortoise-shell pattern and a loop of stretchy black elastic connecting the ends. It’s BEYOND comfy — shoot, maybe even more comfortable than stretchy pants, fluffy beds and Adidas shell-toe shoes.

It also stays in place without slipping, and even after wearing it for a full day, no headache. I think I’m gonna get a lot of use out of it this summer. OOH! I can see the outfits now… How about a crisp white dress with some gold hoop earrings? 🙂

PRICE: $5
AVAILABILITY: Available now exclusively at Target stores
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. How was the rest of your hump day? Doing anything fun tonight? It’s hot as heck here right now, and I need some veg time, so I think I’m gonna just paint my nails and watch I Love You Man on the tube.

I love Paul Rudd… He’s cute in that goofy sorta way.

There were some random fireworks here in Boston but they didn’t allow for any official celebrations due to security concerns.

By the way- thanks for this posting, I’m always looking for headbands that will stay put but not give me a headache- need to keep the hair pulled back on long car rides while the windows are rolled down.

I’m not much for headbands, but if it’s that comfy I might give it a try. It’s so cute, and I love tortoiseshell!

What color are you painting your nails? I just touched up mine today — Conga Line Coral from OPI. A VERY bright coral that went perfectly with that YSL lipstick I talked about the other day.

      Hi Heidi,

You can never go wrong with a bright, happy, summertime coral!

I’m wearing a shade from Top Shop called “Green Room.” It’s like a slightly more intense version of Tiffany blue.

I agree, I hate how those hard plastic headbands hurt after wearing them for a while. This one looks really pretty and promising! Thanks 🙂

It doesn’t. Sometimes if my hair is exceptionally unruly I’ll secure it in place with bobby pins, but most of the time I don’t have to.

I love Paul Rudd and Jason Segal. Put them both in a movie & there’s a movie I can watch over and over again.

On topic – I can’t rock any plastic/stiff headband. I’ve learnt to live with soft & stretch fabric headbands but even those can give me a headache from time to time 🙁

I wonder if they’ll be selling that in Manila. I’ve been looking for a comfortable and cool tortoiseshell headband for the longest time, ever since I saw the late Carolyn Bessett-Kennedy in Vogue, the height of preppy-ness with her headband over blond hair, in a black turtleneck sweater and pencil skirt, with knee high brown leather boots. So chic!

These are super cute but you might to buy a few of them because they get stretched out after you’ve worn them quite a few times and start to fall off.

That headband looks fabulous! I’m a little dubious about the “more comfy than stretchy pants” claim, though. 🙂

Oh, gosh, on Jersey Shore. I heard they were going to Italy this season and immediately thought “oh, no… this is why so many people around the world hate Americans”. I know that’s not very nice but I really don’t want people to think the cast of Jersey Shore is representative of our population. Wait, it’s not, is it??
