It’s Time for a Summer Romance with Clinique Brandied Bronze

April 7th, 2010 by Karen 34 Comments

Unconventional?! Avant-garde? A breakthrough in color palette technology?

Well, not exactly… Yep, we’ve seen colors like these in palettes like this before, but that hasn’t stopped me from falling for Clinique’s new Brandied Bronze Eyeshadow Palette ($25). When I think “classic summer eyeshadow shades,” this bad boy has six of the colors that regularly come to mind.

Clinique Brandied Bronze

A limited-edition summer collection with products for eyes, lips, cheeks and face. Prices range from $14-25.

Brandied Bronze’s beige, bronze, gold, teal, purple and pink are so spot on that if Ryan Reynolds asked me to go on a three month surf vacation with him, I could foreseeably make it through the entire trip with just this palette, a single cream blush, waterproof mascara and a tube of MAC Nymphette. 🙂

For reference, I’m an NC35

And talk about flexibility, whether dressed up or dressed down. Need a neutral eye for work? Try the bronze, beige or brown shadows on the left. Craving more color instead? Reach for the purple, teal or pink on the right. You get a solid selection of versatile colors that blend easily and last all day.

Interestingly, Clinique’s shadows have an almost watercolor look to them once applied — almost like a MAC shadow with half the pigmentation.

I happen to like the somewhat sheer color payoff because I feel it makes the shadows easier to blend, but experienced, hard-core makeup gals might prefer products with a more powerful pigment punch.

Despite it not being particularly unique, I still think Brandied Bronze is beautiful. If you’re new to color or just want to play with a selection of summery shades, it’s a good place to start. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

ooh this is nice. is it just me or is this the first time I’ve seen clinique do shades like this? they usually seem to be more neutral, or maybe I just haven’t seen summery makeup in a looong time. anyways, love this palette especially the teal and purple

very pretty and the price is good. i agree this would be good for traveling but it reminds me too much of my twice baked palette from Urban Decay, except for the pink and purple colors…

i used to wear clinique all the time when i was in high school and college because thats what my mom always used, but then i had a few bad experiences at the macy’s clinique counter where i was pushed into buying colors that did not look good on me at all so i kinda strayed from the brand….

this is pretty but i think im gonna pass on it.

That is pretty – and quite a surprise coming from Clinique. Ive never associated them with bright colors … and im actually looking forward to the watercolor effect. It would be nice to rock soft colors for the summer!!! 🙂

Love it Karen! I wanna run to the store after work today and grab it! The colors are perfect for summer and I could def use the first 3 for the office and the last 3 for weekend fun! I used to wear only Clinique make up years ago cos it was hypo-allergenic, then I moved on to other brands. Think I should hit up the Clinique counter again and pick this baby up, thanks!

    Hi Karen,
these are beautiful! I just bought marcelle’s chic plum wet&dry eyeshadow duo! It’s great! I’m wearing it right now. It’s very close to the purple and pink in the clinique palette. Do they have different sets of palettes than this one?

This is a pretty palette, though not particularly unique with all the turquoises we will be seeing this summer, but it is quite different for Clinique because I don’t expect anything very colourful from them. A nice touch from them to add a bit of colour and punch.

I totally agree Karen, I always fall for these colors every summer but, that’s okay I wear them all summer long so I get good use out of a palette like this. Have you seen the cute Vitamin C gloss set with 3 glosses?

Oooh, thank you so much for swatching the palette! I loved this when I saw the promo photos, but didn’t want to buy it until I saw swatches to find out if there was a decent color payoff. I’ve been looking for swatches for days!!! You are the first person I’ve found who swatched them; hooray!! They are beautiful and I’m definitely going to pick this one up!

This palette is strking me as similar to my expensive lemming, Dior Crush Glow-with the added attraction of a teal shadow for half the price. Do you think the two compare at all, Karen?

This looks like a great palette to get for the teen girl in your life for Spring, Summer, and right into Fall. I’d get it, but I need another shadow palette like a need a hole in the head. Nail polish, on the other hand, I always have space for. 😉

This is probably the first eyeshadow palette that makes me want to run out and buy! Karen, do you use this palette with any eyeshadow base, particularly the MAC paint pot or cream color base (in pearl)? Or is the palette already so shimmery that you don’t need a base at all?
