It Takes One or Two to Tango with Bobbi Brown’s New Chocolate & Gold Eye Palette

Y’all want this party started, right?
Y’all want this party started quickly, right?

Bobbi Brown sure knows how to throw a holiday party. Her latest soirée features four entertaining colors and two of my favorite things: chocolate and gold.

Today the limited edition $45 Chocolate & Gold Eye Paint Palette, one of two quads in Bobbi’s new Party Collection, took me on a stroll down memory lane that started with this classic house hit…

WARNING: It’s always a good idea to stretch before dancing to this song

Chocolate & Gold happens to be a great dance partner! The shadows, while fabulous on their own, get along great with others and flat-out love to be layered.

Which reminds me — do you remember the moment you realized that you could wear more than one eyeshadow on your lids at a time? Better yet, when you figured out that you could even layer those shades together?

GASP! That’s a moment that changed my makeup world forever. 🙂

Flash forward to today. I was just fooling around this morning when I applied the bronzy gold from the Chocolate & Gold Palette (at the top in the pic below) on top of the darker black and gold shadow on the right.

I like how it turned out.

Layering colors is a great way to create some cool effects, like smokey transitions and gradients, and an easy way to upgrade your makeup game. Plus, it’s just good old fashioned fun to smudge colors together, if for no better reason than to see what happens.

Today I ended up with a soft and shimmery brown, black and gold gradient.

Ooh, glitter…

Despite the big honkin’ glitter grains in these shadows, the powders remain surprisingly fluffy and, consequently, a bit difficult (for me) to control, so I used a flat, firm eyeshadow brush today to press the powders into my skin.

To mellow out each of the colors, blur them together and smoothly transition from one shade to the next, I blended out the edges between the shades with a fluffy, domed eyeshadow brush.

What a fun quad! — and it would be even more fun at $35. 🙂 Just make sure you have a couple of brush options on hand to avoid getting glitter all over your cheeks.

I’m calling the following picture, “Cranky Tabby and Girl with Linebacker Shoulders.”

It’s not exactly my favorite picture of myself (not my best angle, LOL!), but I couldn’t resist posting it because of Tabs’ cranky expression.

At the time I thought he was napping in his cat tower; I had no idea he was right behind me!

Apparently, he just couldn’t accept being out of the shot…

Yup, such is life when you live/work with a cat diva.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. I hope you’re having a good Tuesday so far. Did you do anything fun with your makeup today? What are you wearing on your eyes?

Thanks. 🙂 Aren’t those Creaseless Creams the best? Do you wear them alone or layer primer beneath?

The fallout can be a pain. I like do my eye makeup first so that I can clean up any stray mess. 🙂

Oooh! So that sequin top was a total steal. I got it at Marshalls for $12!

I think he’s just so used to being the star of the show, LOL! When he’s not the center of attention he gets really, really fussy. 🙂

Have you had the chance to play with any of Bobbi’s new holiday items?

I also went for the Benefit Creaseless Creams today. R.S.V.P. and Stiletto. Then I lined with the black pencil that came in the Scene Queen set that Benefit put out awhile back.

That was a good kit, that Scene Queen.

I find black eyeliner tends to get the thumbs up from the resident kitty model. 🙂 Cats just LOOOOVE their liner. I’m sure Missy approved.

      Hi Peach,

You can *totally* do this look. It’s really, REALLY easy. Just layer on those two shades, blend like crazy and then pop some liner on your waterlines. Add a few coats of mascara and you’re done.

Oh goodness. Just the other day as I was getting ready for bed my husband looked at me and said, “Huh, you are right. You do have football player shoulders.”

I’m still mad I wasn’t a teen in the 80’s. I have naturally big hair and apparently built in shoulder pads.

As a teen who lived through the late ’80s, let me tell you, IT WAS ROUGH. The hair, the terrible, terrible clothing… It was not the easiest time to be awkward and 13, LOL!

But at least everyone would’ve been awkward with me! Instead, sleek shiny pin straight hair and mini skirts were en vogue when I was growing up and I came from a conservative family and a mom who had no idea what to do with my lion’s mane. Think a golden brown version of Anne Hathaway in the Princess Diaries pre-makeover.

It’s cool though – volume’s back and me and my hair are in a truce!

Pretty quad. I love that top, btw.

Speaking of cranky kitties, you wanna know what Rocky does to get me up in the mornings (to serve her breakfast of course)? She shoves her little backside in my face.

Nipping, smacking and shoving no longer work on me. So she’s brought out the big guns….haha.

I remember reading somewhere that when kitties show you their butts it means they trust you. Tabs is ALWAYS flashing his backside. I think it’s more so he can show off his kitty balls, though, haha.

Karen, you may want to conceal your answer from Tabs, but wondering if Tabs is neutered? I told my boy kitties that they had their tonsils out. ; )

          Hi Patty,

LOL, I hope your kitty boys got lots of good treats after their “tonsil” trip.

Yup, Tabs has been neutered. He still displays a lot of dominant behavior like marking things (and people!) by rubbing his cheeks against them. Then there’s the whole showing off his kitty balls thing, haha.

I’m not very familiar with Bobbi Brown, how are these “eye paints” different from regular eyeshadows? They look like mineral shadows from the pictures, but the term “paint” suggests otherwise.
Also I love your lip color in the cranky tabby picture, lol! Is that from this collection?

    Nice dress, Karen!

Yes, love layering eyeshadows sometimes, and I find that a lot of Bobbi Brown eyeshadows are great when layered.

It’s Wed afternoon here now. Started the day attendng my daughter’s first school assembly. Then went around doing some errands.

Makeup-wise, only Stila Honey shadow pot all over my lids, Guerlain Meteorites in 02 Pink Fresh, the old version on my cheeks, and MAC Riveting Rose lipstick for the fall glam feel!
Was in a rush this morning.
