Is the $11 NYX Bronze Look Kit as Good as Gold?

July 1st, 2010 by Karen 31 Comments

NYX Bronze Look Kit Review Photos Swatches

Among precious metals, gold always gets the best quips… “You’re golden,” “Go for the gold,” or when something’s said to be “as good as gold.”

Poor under-appreciated bronze just doesn’t get the same love, ya know? Seriously, when was the last time someone told you to “Go for the bronze”? 🙂

Well, perhaps the new NYX Bronze Look Kit ($11) will garner bronze the respect it deserves.

The palette, one of three new Look Kits from NYX for summer, bursts with bronzy shades for eyes and lips. Like the Purple Smokey Look Kit we looked at a few days ago, it comes with a mix of nine shimmery and matte shadows and two frosty lipsticks nicely packaged in a two-tier case.

I like the longevity (these shadows last all day long without creasing) and range of this particular mix of colors and finishes for subdued, toned-down eye looks, but while the shadows in the Purple Look Kit generally apply and blend smoothly, a few of the shades in this one don’t. I wouldn’t call it a big issue, but I think it’s worth noting.

As far as the lipsticks are concerned, we’re talkin’ frosty, just like the ones in the Purple Look Kit.

On balance I like this set, but I bet many of these colors would POP! a little better on lighter skinned lovelies than I think they do on me. Ladies may also have to budget some extra time for layering and blending, just in case.

Ultimately, it’s an $11 kit, a steal when you really think about it, and for the price you get a lot. If you’ve been prowling around for an affordable neutral palette for eyes and lips, this Bronze might do ya fine. Available at drugstores and online at nyxcosmetics.com. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

You might like the NYX Bronze Look Kit if…

  • You like the way you look in warm bronzy shades
  • You’re a light-skinned babe
  • You love a good bargain

Karen

The Hubs asked me why there was so much and double of some stuff … I just grinned at him and he got it.

He really lets me get away with a lot, so im not complaining when I have to control myself! 🙂

Nyx has amazing products for us green-eyed gals. I have to make a trip to to pick these up. They don’t sell them at the drugstore though; I have to go to my parents’ in the ‘burbs to get to an Ulta.

      Hi Deb,

Good to know. What products for green-eyed girls would you recommend?

I love their slim eye pencil in Prune – it’s my go-to (that and Revlon Colorstay liner in Blackberry) because it makes my eyes pop like crazy. My daily eye makeup basically consists of lining my upper lid with one of those two and a nice coat of LashBlast – instantly gorgeous eyes.

I think any of Nyx’s purple liners would look fabulous, although I haven’t quite tried ALL of them (I’m working on it, though!)

And I just had to add, I LOVE LOVE LOVE NYX lipglosses. Their mega shine lipgloss lasts something like four hours on my lips and have gorgeous color. Totally a steal for the price.

I bought this on Cherry Culture last night. Well if it doesn’t pop for me, I can just give it to one of my nieces. I also got the other two kits and to NYX blushes.

And back to the no buy…hehehehe

All the brone colors have too much reddish tone to them and some look so similar to other. Its a deal though at 11 bucks…Shud not complain…
