I’m Straight Trippin’ over $5 TRESemme Heat Tamer Spray

July 29th, 2010 by Karen 83 Comments

tresemme heat tamer spray review

Seriously, where would we be without our friends to show us the beauty light? I imagine we’d bumble our way through the beauty-sphere, eventually finding the best stuff on our own, but isn’t it nice when a buddy offers a heads up about something truly great (and cheap!)?

To wit: my pal Marisol recently turned me on to TRESemme Heat Tamer Spray ($5), and HELLO! — talk about bomb-@ss drugstore beauty finds.

I’d been seeing it on shelves for months but wasn’t compelled to give it a try until Marisol’s recommendation.

TRESemme designed the spray mist to protect hair from heat damage, to tame frizz and to add shine.

It’s a breeze to use… Just spritz on wet hair before blow drying, curling or flat ironing (it can also be used on dry hair).

I swapped out with Pantene’s Curly Heat Protection & Shine Spray two weeks ago and WOW! — Heat Tamer wins hands down.

Misted on dry hair before flat ironing, I only have to pass the iron from root to tip once or twice for stick-straight strands. With Pantene’s spray, sometimes I’ll still see kinks even after three or four passes (NOTE: my mop’s naturally thick, wavy and unruly).

Not only does Heat Tamer deliver glossy, uber-straight, frizz-free hair, but it doesn’t stiffen the fibers to the extent that my hair feels like a heavy curtain resting on my shoulders.

More stuff to like:

  • The nozzle sprays a very fine mist that makes it easy to evenly apply the product to large sections of hair
  • The light floral fragrance doesn’t overwhelm any other scents I might be wearing (now, that would be my current favorite Bobbi Brown Beach perfume)
  • Did I mention it’s only $5?

Earlier today I asked folks on Twitter what they thought of TRESemme Heat Tamer…
tresemme heat tamer spray review

After two weeks with it I haven’t noticed any new split or dry ends, which is always a good sign.

If you reach for heat styling tools often, then you might want to check it out (thanks again, Marisol!). Available at drugstores and online at drugstore.com. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

I may have to check this out. I use Kerastase Ciment Thermique and, although I LOVE what it does for my hair, I HATE what it does to by bank account! I wonder how it will work for fine hair? Think it could weigh it down?

Kerastase makes great stuff but it’s so expensive.

I use that when I don’t have money, so I’ve been using it a lot lately, and I love it. SInce we’re talking about hair, you should try the deep conditioner from Rusk. It’s so good. They have three different formulas, but I’ve been using the one with argan oil. My hair, normally dull and fried, has never looked better. They sell it at Ulta, mine is in a beige (ish) container. When I don’t have the $20.00 to splurge I use Aveeno, which is also nice for the price.

I picked up the Pantene one after your review and really like it. I try to stay away from silicone products for my hair so I’ll have to pass on this one. I find the Pantene makes flat-ironing a piece of cake. I try to keep some wave even when I flat iron because straight-straight doesn’t look right with the layers cut for my very wavy hair.

My hair was fritzzed a few months ago – because of the winter cold. the hair dryer and the flat iron. It started when I had my hair cut in short-ish layers and needed to flat iron everyday. I used to use a salon brand heat protectant but it did totally nothing.

At HEB (a fab source for affordable beauty goods AND groceries), I found this and have been using it for maybe 4 months and it saved my hair. My hair is no longer fried. Its healthier and I can blow dry with a clear conscience. I also need to flat iron less because of this spray because it does control frizz.

    Awesome product, awesome-r price! 🙂

Tresemme makes a curl spray (in the same line) that holds something fierce. It is the only thing that will get my straight, fine hair to hold a curl from a curling iron. And it’s not crunchy as long as you use heat with it. *shock* I do wonder if it would be a bit much for someone with coarser/wavier hair, though.

I wonder how I could use this. I have curly hair and go to the salon for blowouts, but like to flat iron it to keep my hair from reverting. I wonder if misting this on the hair would cause more of the reverting, but would it stop when I flat ironed? Hmmmm…
