Seriously, where would we be without our friends to show us the beauty light? I imagine we’d bumble our way through the beauty-sphere, eventually finding the best stuff on our own, but isn’t it nice when a buddy offers a heads up about something truly great (and cheap!)?
To wit: my pal Marisol recently turned me on to TRESemme Heat Tamer Spray ($5), and HELLO! — talk about bomb-@ss drugstore beauty finds.
I’d been seeing it on shelves for months but wasn’t compelled to give it a try until Marisol’s recommendation.
TRESemme designed the spray mist to protect hair from heat damage, to tame frizz and to add shine.
It’s a breeze to use… Just spritz on wet hair before blow drying, curling or flat ironing (it can also be used on dry hair).
I swapped out with Pantene’s Curly Heat Protection & Shine Spray two weeks ago and WOW! — Heat Tamer wins hands down.
Misted on dry hair before flat ironing, I only have to pass the iron from root to tip once or twice for stick-straight strands. With Pantene’s spray, sometimes I’ll still see kinks even after three or four passes (NOTE: my mop’s naturally thick, wavy and unruly).
Not only does Heat Tamer deliver glossy, uber-straight, frizz-free hair, but it doesn’t stiffen the fibers to the extent that my hair feels like a heavy curtain resting on my shoulders.
More stuff to like:
- The nozzle sprays a very fine mist that makes it easy to evenly apply the product to large sections of hair
- The light floral fragrance doesn’t overwhelm any other scents I might be wearing (now, that would be my current favorite Bobbi Brown Beach perfume)
- Did I mention it’s only $5?
Earlier today I asked folks on Twitter what they thought of TRESemme Heat Tamer…
After two weeks with it I haven’t noticed any new split or dry ends, which is always a good sign.
If you reach for heat styling tools often, then you might want to check it out (thanks again, Marisol!). Available at drugstores and online at drugstore.com. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
I may have to check this out. I use Kerastase Ciment Thermique and, although I LOVE what it does for my hair, I HATE what it does to by bank account! I wonder how it will work for fine hair? Think it could weigh it down?
Kerastase makes great stuff but it’s so expensive.
Michelle (her comment is below in the thread) says she has fine hair and it totally works for her.
I am sooo checking this out! I use the CHI one, but it sometimes makes my hair crunchy. =/

Crunchy isn’t good. Happy Friday, btw!
I use the straightening gel from the same line and I love it! I’ll have to give the spray a try next time.
I hear that’s great stuff! If I can track it down I’m going to try it.
Love this product!! I use it every time I straighten my hair. 🙂
Have you been using it for long, Kerry?
I use that when I don’t have money, so I’ve been using it a lot lately, and I love it. SInce we’re talking about hair, you should try the deep conditioner from Rusk. It’s so good. They have three different formulas, but I’ve been using the one with argan oil. My hair, normally dull and fried, has never looked better. They sell it at Ulta, mine is in a beige (ish) container. When I don’t have the $20.00 to splurge I use Aveeno, which is also nice for the price.
Hi Alicia,
I used to use RUSK a long time ago. I do remember liking their conditioners (especially the scents).
What is that lovely nail polish you are wearing in the photo? It’s not MAC Blue India, is it??? I luuurve that color… just wish MAC knew that the brush needs to be fatter.
That’s Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro in Marine Blue. 🙂
ZOMG I totally LOVE Rimmel polishes and I don’t have that one yet! I will also check out Tresemme, it sounds great.
The Lasting Finish Pro ones are pretty good. The brush is nice and wide (LOVE) and they seem to dry relatively fast. I wish they were a little shinier, but the price is great!
I love this stuff! I’m running low, stopping by Target to pick some up later. Love the sunglasses on you, btw!

Did you end up getting a bottle last night?
I just ….LOVE this product!!! It smells great and doesn’t have my hair heavy or bothered 🙂 🙂
That’s one of the things I love about it, too.
Wow, this looks like something that would go well with my hair type!

Try it!
I’ve been thinking of trying a new heat protectant for a while but wasn’t sure if the Tresemme one would deliver. I’m currently using a Pantene one as well and I’m so-so about it. I can’t tell if it’s doing anything to tell you the truth! lol I may just have to make a trip to the drugstore this weekend to give this a shot!

Hi Sarah,
Give it a go! Who knows? Maybe you’ll like this one even more. 🙂
Hahaha, you are so funny. I will give this a shot! I have somewhat wavy but mostly frizzy hair. I hope this stuff can tame it.

I hope so too. Unruly hair = no fun. 🙁
I love this stuff, I also really loved their Straightening Gel(part of the other Heat products) I would put on before I would spritz this… makes my wavy hair even more straighter just with a blow dryer BUT they stopped making it??!… its not even listed on the tresemme website anymore 🙁
Hi Chanel,
Oh noes! Maybe you can purchase online from some other retailer…
Hi Karen,
How have you been?
This product will be extremely helpful for me, I need to straighten my hair everyday!!
Thank you for sharing =)
Hi Joey,
I’ve been good. 🙂 I’m so glad tomorrow is Friday… thank goodness this week went by fast. How are you doing?
It’s August already!!
Seems like this year flew by so quickly..
Have been doing great 😉
ive been using this for like 2 or 3 years now. i dont remember why i tried it. maybe there was a blog post or maybe it was just on sale but i love it. i hope they never do something ignorant like discontinue it or change the formula.
Ugh, don’t you hate it when companies do that? That would make me REALLY CRANKY too.
I picked up the Pantene one after your review and really like it. I try to stay away from silicone products for my hair so I’ll have to pass on this one. I find the Pantene makes flat-ironing a piece of cake. I try to keep some wave even when I flat iron because straight-straight doesn’t look right with the layers cut for my very wavy hair.
Hey Steph,
Glad to hear the Pantene one worked for ya!
My hair was fritzzed a few months ago – because of the winter cold. the hair dryer and the flat iron. It started when I had my hair cut in short-ish layers and needed to flat iron everyday. I used to use a salon brand heat protectant but it did totally nothing.
At HEB (a fab source for affordable beauty goods AND groceries), I found this and have been using it for maybe 4 months and it saved my hair. My hair is no longer fried. Its healthier and I can blow dry with a clear conscience. I also need to flat iron less because of this spray because it does control frizz.
Awesome product, awesome-r price! 🙂
This spray really is a gem. The first time I used I was like… WOW! Is this really from the drugstore?
Tresseme has pretty good stuff thatsaffordable!
Guess what I got at 7 am this morning? A Hard Candy blush LOL … I was so early for work that I had time to pop over @ TheWallyWorld. 😀
I have this at it works great! I have baby fine hair — so I have to hold it about a foot away from my hair as I mist. It really protects against the flat iron.
Thanks for letting us know it works on fine hair, Michelle. I know a couple of readers were asking about it!
Awesome find, I’ll look into it! Does it add a lot of shine? I’ve been looking for something to give a gloss finish to my hair…
It does add a lot of shine! That’s one of the things I like most about it.
I will SO have to check that out!!!
I hope you do. 🙂
Love your sunglasses! This sounds like a great product. I’d have to sneak a smell though, because of my sensitive nose. I don’t blow dry, flat iron, or curl my hair often, so paying $5 for a good product is great. Thanks for the review!
Toni recently posted … 2nd Menu Monday
You’re welcome. I don’t mind the scent so much (and my nose gets overwhelmed easily). It’s much more delicate than the Pantene one, that’s for sure.
I used to use the Chi heat spray and for some reason that I can’t think of now, I liked it. But I’ve been using this Tresemme spray and it makes my hair soo soft! Great stuff
It’s so good! And cheap!
Oh man, my bangs could sure use something like this. They don’t like being flat-ironed every day, that’s for sure.
Also, I’m really digging that nozzle. Makes me want to spray stuff. 😉

Ha ha! I do like how it spritzes a find mist!
Hair looks fab. The guy who used to cut my hair decided to straighten it once, just for fun. By the time I was halfway across the parking garage afterward in the summer humidity, it was as though it had all been a dream…

I’m having a hard time imagining you with straight hair… Whenever I see you in pics it’s always in perfect curls.
I looove Tresemme!! Have you tried the “dry shampoo”? OMG!! it’s a life saver for those of us that
have oily hair! Works fantabulously!! Bye bye bad hair days!!
I have! It’s pretty good for a drugstore dry shampoo. 🙂
I’m going to have to check this out! Thanks for the recommendation!
You’re welcome! Have a great Friday!
I know I’m going to get some hate for that but….
After loving so much this TRESEMMÉ heat protecting spray. I HAD to try their shampoo. I use the TRESemmé Naturals, low sulfate with aloe vera / avocado with the natural conditionner and…
I love it so much, I just cannot justify the use of 20$ Shampoo.
TRESemmé definitly conquer my heart, and my hair!
I’ll have to give that one a sniff next time I’m at the drugstore. Yay for budget hair products!
OMG I friggn love this stuff. It smells so good, sometimes I just mist it on my hair when I’m not even using any heat tools. But I usually use this whenever I break out the curling iron, it makes my hair so nice and shiny
makeup morsels recently posted … EOTD- Black and Gold
I’ll have to bust it out next time I use my curling iron. 🙂
Tresemme makes a curl spray (in the same line) that holds something fierce. It is the only thing that will get my straight, fine hair to hold a curl from a curling iron. And it’s not crunchy as long as you use heat with it. *shock* I do wonder if it would be a bit much for someone with coarser/wavier hair, though.
Yes I use it! The spray serves its purpose, but I don’t really like the scent which can be annoying at times. Wish it comes with a scent-free one!
I don’t mind the scent, but that would be a nice option for the peeps who don’t.
Oh, Karen, you are too cute in these glasses, I love it!

Hi Marina,
Thanks! 🙂 Happy Friday.
I use this too! I loooove how cheap it is!
SO CHEAP! Really, drugstore hair stuff has gotten so much better in the last few years.
I like a little wave and curl in my hair, but do blow dry so I should probably consider a heat protector. I like the trigger spray nozzle too – I’m starting to see it on more products. I have a Pravana leave-in conditioner with a similar trigger, and as Trisha says, it does make me want to spray things! 🙂
Hi Kim,
I’m actually looking for a good leave-in. How are you liking that Pravana one?
I really love this product, but my nozzle broke after about ten days. 🙁
I just transferred it to another bottle, so I sometimes end up getting too much in one spot.
Beware of broken nozzles! All in all, though, I love this stuff!
Good to know. Thanks for the heads up, Kerry!
Awesome! Thanks for the recommendation – I’m currently on the last of a salon-brand heat protectant spray a friend gave me but I have been dang near depressed to have to give up (can’t afford the pricetag!). This one should fit the bill!!! YayyyyY!

I have super curly hair, and I use this stuff every time I give myself a blowout. Before blow drying and again before the flat iron. It’s GREAT! It has been known to make my hair a little product-ish feeling if I use too much, but I love it otherwise!
Wow! Thanks for the review. I’ve seen this in the stores and have noticed that two of my friends use this, but I never really thought of buying it. I might just have to pick up a bottle soon! =D
that’s been my favorite spray ever since V05 discontinued theirs!

Love this stuff too!!
I laaahve this stuff! I use it before any kind of heat even comes close to my hair! I love the spray it puts out too, it is so fine and even. I get so many compliments when I flat iron my hair and I always recommend this spray 🙂
I wish they had a cream forumla of this. Because I ran out of my Chi one, and need something cheap for now. Do you think this will work for thick or curly hair?
I actually already have this, but I used it once or twice and it didn’t seem like anything special. After reading your review, maybe I’ll pull it back out and try straightening with it tomorrow!
I am so excited that it worked for you. I so missed this product when i was on my trip. I didn’t want to deal with accidental spillage so I didn’t pack it with me.

O MY GOODNESS i’ve been using this product for the past couple years (clearly very loyal) i love it so much! With my curly hair it’s perfect for a diffuser after using TRESemme’s curl care touchable curls lotion shaping milk!! YAYAYA i love seeing the word spread about great products! :))
I’ve been using this for years! I’ve tried got2b and Dove heat protectants, but I always end up coming back to this stuff. It smells great and doesn’t leave my hair crunchy like some of it’s competitors (like the dove product).
I wonder how I could use this. I have curly hair and go to the salon for blowouts, but like to flat iron it to keep my hair from reverting. I wonder if misting this on the hair would cause more of the reverting, but would it stop when I flat ironed? Hmmmm…
