Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Frenzy: A Pink Pigmentation Bonanza!

July 10th, 2009 by Karen 56 Comments

illamasqua makeup reviews intense lipgloss frenzy top 2

Holy crap! Illamasqua’s Intense Lipgloss in Frenzy ($20) does NOT mess around. This stuff is pigmented like nobody’s bidness!

illamasqua makeup reviews intense lipgloss frenzy karen2

Just the tiniest bit of this creamy hot pink provides almost opaque coverage. I’d wager to say it packs something like twice as much color as usual for a gloss — it’s *that* pigmented.

I love the rich, blinged-out look of this shade, but truth be told it’s hella high maintenance.

How high maintenance is it?

Frenzy’s like the Kimora Lee Simmons of the lipgloss world!

illamasqua makeup reviews intense lipgloss frenzy swatch

The first time I tried it on I made the mistake of smothering my lips with a thick layer. Color ended up bleeding outside of my natural lip line, and I looked pretty scary — like one of those nightmarish clowns that haunts childhood dreams.

Frenzy is definitely a lipgloss that has to be applied slowly, and with great care.

It’s also a good idea to apply it to healthy lips that aren’t dry or cracked. I’ve noticed that if my lips are peeling at all, it will definitely settle into those parts, eww.

Despite Frenzy’s high maintenance factor, she has some wicked great things going for her. The color lasts forever — I can go half a day without having to reapply — and even after the shiny gloss factor has faded, my lips still carry a pretty, bright pink stain.

Other things I like about it…

  1. That it doesn’t feel sticky on my lips
  2. The faint watermelon fragrance (which dissipates quickly)
  3. That it’s unflavored

Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Frenzy

Price: $20 for a 7-ml tube
Use: A creamy hot pink gloss for rich, lasting lip color
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A-

My lips aren’t naturally super pigmented, but I’m guessing that if yours are, and you frequently have trubs getting lipgloss colors to pop, then this line could be the answer to your lipgloss prayers.

Let’s hope the hype is true and that we’ll be able to see Frenzy and other Illamasqua products sold here on US shores in Sephora stores soon.

TGIF!

How’s your Friday coming along? Wasn’t this a tough week?

I’m heading to the movies in a few (Public Enemies). Whatever you’re doing, I hope you have a great night. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

It’s such a pretty color! But $20 is a lot of money for tube of lipgloss. Why not bring it down a little, say like, $10? It’s a teeny tiny bit smaller (.6 ml to be exact) than my Maybelline Lippolish in clearly pink (yes, I can wear the lip polish, just nothing else by Maybelline). I’m stingy, okay. It’s hard for me to rationalize $14 on a eyeshadow duo, much less $20 for a 7 ml tube of lip gloss. I fear the military has sucked all the money spending tendencies I may have had as a newborn baby. 🙂

Gimme your hair!!! I want my hair to do that!!! Damn fine straight hair.

It’s pricy, but you get what you pay for in this case. I barely have to use any gloss to get coverage!

Love that colour. I just got my Illamasqua haulage yesterday and got the intense gloss in Besotted. Blood red! Makes me think of Twilight. LOL. I wrote a post about this yesterday and posting a photo today.

LOVE the gloss. Agree with you on all fronts in terms of your assessment. Have a great weekend Karen!

Actually my favorite part about the FOTD is actually your hair, so wavy and pretty!

Anyway, after seeing a few of your posts, Illamasqua seems pretty interesting (after a few yawning MAC moments for me) , I was eying on their makeup brushes since they look kind of cool. too bad they are not coming to our state though…

Hi Jenny, Jess, Cristina and Katie,

The hair is super easy. I washed it last night and then let it air dry ’till it was just a little damp. Before going to bed I sprayed on Aveeno Nourish+ Condition Leave-In Treatment, combed it through and then did a loose French braid. In the morning I took out the braid, shook out the waves and then sprayed some Redken Layer Lift on the upper and middle layers. I scrunched the ends and then let it do its thang! That’s it. 🙂

Hmm… it’s quite high maintenance, so I dunno if it would hold up as well as a long wearing matte. It moves a lot more than lipstick does.
