Holy crap! Illamasqua’s Intense Lipgloss in Frenzy ($20) does NOT mess around. This stuff is pigmented like nobody’s bidness!
Just the tiniest bit of this creamy hot pink provides almost opaque coverage. I’d wager to say it packs something like twice as much color as usual for a gloss — it’s *that* pigmented.
I love the rich, blinged-out look of this shade, but truth be told it’s hella high maintenance.
How high maintenance is it?
Frenzy’s like the Kimora Lee Simmons of the lipgloss world!
The first time I tried it on I made the mistake of smothering my lips with a thick layer. Color ended up bleeding outside of my natural lip line, and I looked pretty scary — like one of those nightmarish clowns that haunts childhood dreams.
Frenzy is definitely a lipgloss that has to be applied slowly, and with great care.
It’s also a good idea to apply it to healthy lips that aren’t dry or cracked. I’ve noticed that if my lips are peeling at all, it will definitely settle into those parts, eww.
Despite Frenzy’s high maintenance factor, she has some wicked great things going for her. The color lasts forever — I can go half a day without having to reapply — and even after the shiny gloss factor has faded, my lips still carry a pretty, bright pink stain.
Other things I like about it…
- That it doesn’t feel sticky on my lips
- The faint watermelon fragrance (which dissipates quickly)
- That it’s unflavored
Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Frenzy
Price: $20 for a 7-ml tube
Use: A creamy hot pink gloss for rich, lasting lip color
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A-
My lips aren’t naturally super pigmented, but I’m guessing that if yours are, and you frequently have trubs getting lipgloss colors to pop, then this line could be the answer to your lipgloss prayers.
Let’s hope the hype is true and that we’ll be able to see Frenzy and other Illamasqua products sold here on US shores in Sephora stores soon.
TGIF!
How’s your Friday coming along? Wasn’t this a tough week?
I’m heading to the movies in a few (Public Enemies). Whatever you’re doing, I hope you have a great night. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Oh, I just love the look of that bright pop of pink against the black of your top and your hair! Super-pretty!
Hi Glosslizard,
Thank you! 🙂
Hope your weekend is off to a great start. Doing anything exciting?
Karen!
I’m in love with your hair in this pic!! You gotta hook a girl up and tell me how you did it!!
As Paris Hilton would say: that’s HOT!
Hi Redhead,
I know, right? 🙂
Love!! Illamasqua has been getting a ton of attention recently, and I`m absolutely dying to check out some of their products — what amazing pigmentation!

Hi Rae,
For real… there’s nothing sheer about this bad boy!
It’s such a pretty color! But $20 is a lot of money for tube of lipgloss. Why not bring it down a little, say like, $10? It’s a teeny tiny bit smaller (.6 ml to be exact) than my Maybelline Lippolish in clearly pink (yes, I can wear the lip polish, just nothing else by Maybelline). I’m stingy, okay. It’s hard for me to rationalize $14 on a eyeshadow duo, much less $20 for a 7 ml tube of lip gloss. I fear the military has sucked all the money spending tendencies I may have had as a newborn baby. 🙂
Gimme your hair!!! I want my hair to do that!!! Damn fine straight hair.
Hi Kate & Zena,
It’s pricy, but you get what you pay for in this case. I barely have to use any gloss to get coverage!
OMG! I love how your hair looks in the picture, you have to tell me how you did it! Great gloss too.
Love that colour. I just got my Illamasqua haulage yesterday and got the intense gloss in Besotted. Blood red! Makes me think of Twilight. LOL. I wrote a post about this yesterday and posting a photo today.
LOVE the gloss. Agree with you on all fronts in terms of your assessment. Have a great weekend Karen!

Hi Michelle,
Isn’t this gloss crazy pigmented? It’s kind of shocking how much color it packs.
You have a great weekend, too!
Actually my favorite part about the FOTD is actually your hair, so wavy and pretty!
Anyway, after seeing a few of your posts, Illamasqua seems pretty interesting (after a few yawning MAC moments for me) , I was eying on their makeup brushes since they look kind of cool. too bad they are not coming to our state though…

Hi Citrine,
The line will soon be available online from Sephora! At least the shipping won’t be as expensive as overseas shipping. 🙂
I can’t wait !! I totally want this
I love me some pink!!!
Hi Yadi,
I know you do! You could so rock this with some bright eyeshadow. 🙂
What’s going on with you this weekend?
Color looks great on you. Very pretty! Can’t for the line to come to Sephora.
Hi Erin,
Thank you! I can’t wait, either. What are you most excited about?
Karen, that gloss looks stunning on you. I can’t wait until it pops up on Sephora later this month, it’s going to be a buy for me !
Hi Ruth,
Yes! I hope they carry these lipglosses. Sephora won’t have the entire line in stock, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
Karen, you look GORGEOUS. I’m loving the hair and the gloss. I can’t wait until this brand hits sephora. I will run in there like cujo and devour everything in sight. Lol
Hi Shontay,
HA! I can totally imagine women foaming at the mouth and tusslin’ over the lipsticks at the counter!
I will be there, for sure. 🙂
Karen ! its soo pretty ! and so is your hair ! how did you do your hair ?
.-= jess’s last blog post… oh, urban outfitters. =-.
I can’t wait till this hits Sephora!! I’ll be all over it this brand. I’m also digging your hair Karen 🙂 I hope you make a post/tutorial on how you did your hair!
Hi Jenny, Jess, Cristina and Katie,
The hair is super easy. I washed it last night and then let it air dry ’till it was just a little damp. Before going to bed I sprayed on Aveeno Nourish+ Condition Leave-In Treatment, combed it through and then did a loose French braid. In the morning I took out the braid, shook out the waves and then sprayed some Redken Layer Lift on the upper and middle layers. I scrunched the ends and then let it do its thang! That’s it. 🙂
Haha, I’m also loving your hair! Also, the movie is fab. I went to see it Monday, I think. Of course I’m biased though because I have a total Johnny Depp crush!

Hi Alexzandra,
We just got back from the film. I liked it but didn’t love it. The eye candy was nice, but I wanted more depth in the characters.
ANOTHER HOT PINK THING I MUST GET MY HANDS ON.
i wonder if it will stay during sweaty dancing.
.-= ines’s last blog post… Dance Photo Roundup – Winter 2008/Spring & Summer 2009 =-.
Hi Ines,
Hmm… it’s quite high maintenance, so I dunno if it would hold up as well as a long wearing matte. It moves a lot more than lipstick does.
Between the hot pink gloss and your wavy hair, you look hot! You go girl!
Hi Kajal Couture,
Thanks!
What’s going on this weekend?
you look so sexy in your picture here karen!

I also love your hair! So cute!
Hawt, hawt, hawt, Girlfriend! Love the hair and the gloss.
Omg, this line is killing me! That lipgloss is all kinds of perfect. I’m going to wear my MAC Heatherette Hollywood Nights today in it’s honor (they’re very similar).
And you? What a great pic Karen! I’ve got to agree with the ladies, your beachy do is gorgeous.
.-= Stef’s last blog post… Tweet Nothings – Diablo Cody =-.
Wow. I am sooo excited that Illamasqua is going to hit Sephora online soon. From everything I’ve read and seen it’s such an interesting and high quality brand. On my list: matte eyeshadows, and lipgloss 🙂
I watched Public Enemies last when it came out. Wasn’t what I thought it would be but a good story about John Dillinger’s life.
This weekend I am spending a large amount of time helping my bud to prepare for her wedding next weekend! Plus a bachelorette party tonight at the Chabot Observatory! Fun!
How ’bout you?
Hi Karen,
I’m a long time reader, first time commenter. I just have to say your hair is PERFECTION! Thanks for letting us know how you did it!
Wow, that colour is amazing on you! Gorgeous.
*squee* I cannot wait! So impatient to check it out. My appointment is next weekend but I think I’ll go check it out tomorrow evening or so 🙂
Gorgeous on you! Your hair is to die for. Such pretty natural waves! I can’t wait until this line hits sephora!

Hi Karen,

Hi Karen,
I love how that lip gloss looks on you. It really complements your complexion in a great way. I am looking forward to seeing the Llamasqua at Sephora. I live two blocks away from a Sephora and worked there during the last holiday season. They really treat their help nicely!!!!! Louise
I love the hair. Please do a tutorial.
Karen, I just have to say you have always been an amazingly beautiful woman in my eyes, BUT….since your birthday you have just been ooozing HAWTNESS in every one of your pics. Is it really true that we only get better with age?!?!? Daaammnn, girl! LOL 🙂
