I’ll Take A Blended NARS Vent Glacé Duo Eyeshadow To Go, Thanks

July 13th, 2012 by Karen 25 Comments

nars vent glace eyeshadow

What if Starbucks started selling makeup?

“Good morning! What can I get you?”
“Hi! Oh, uh…could I please get one of those Artisan veggie sandwiches, a lemon scone and a NARS Vent Glacé?”
“Blended with room for whip cream?”
“Does a cat snore in his sleep?!”
“…”
“Yes, please.”

Some of the nuances differentiating the cool-toned platinum and silver shades in the NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Vent Glacé ($34; it’s French for “icy wind,” who knew?), are probably lost on my NC 42 skin tone, but man! — I sure do love how they look blended together on top of black eyeliner.

That’s how I’m wearing them here (also with the NARS High Society Trio, from the very same fall 2012 collection, on my lids), smudged on top of black liner along my lower lash line.

They merge to form a silvery greenish gray gradient that’s all kinds of awesome.

Any creamy black or blackish gray base would probably work great in a look like this, like MAC Paint Pot in Blackground, Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Strut or Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Eyeshadow in Mirifique.

Additional makeup worn in this look…

  • MAC Concrete Eyeshadow: Brows
  • NARS Trio Eyeshadow in High Society: lids
  • Chanel Inimitible Intense in 50 Purple: Lashes
  • MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline: Water lines, lash lines and lids
  • NARS Larger Than Life Gloss in Rouge Tribal: Lips
  • Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer SPF 15: Cheeks
  • NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer in Cuba and St. Moritz: Face
  • Hourglass Oxygen Foundation Powder in No. 4: Forehead, nose and chin
  • NARS Blush in Outlaw: Apples of my cheeks

Both of the colors in the duo blend together and into other shadows seamlessly, and with plenty of pigment, but very little fallout. Good and good. 🙂

PRICE: $34
AVAILABILITY: Coming soon to NARS counters, and coming to narscosmetics.com July 15
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+/A-

Aww I love this kissing picture!

I’m almost sure this duo isn’t my thing, mostly because I don’t think it’d function too well alone on me. What I like about duos is the fact that I can create quick looks with them, but both shades in this one are a bit too light and shimmery for me. Too bad. I do love how you combine it with the new trio though!

Your writings brighten up my day, lady K! How fun would it be to walk into Starbucks and order a chai (extra-hot, non-fat) and a lipgloss (a coral one with fine shimmer, please).

    Squeeeee@Tabs sighting :).

Usually I strongly dislike frosty colors, but this duo has me kind in love. I think I’d always end up blending the shades together or with another color, but I think these can look nice in a lot of different looks. I love things that can be versatile.

I’m pretty sure Tabs is one of the cutest cats ever!

      Hi Melissa,

Me too. I love eye makeup that you can easily incorporate into lots of looks. I bet you could use this with a bunch of different smokey looks, like icy greens, grays, silvers and blues.

Tabs is very flattered…he sends diva kitty hugs your way.

TGIF! It’s time for me to go home because I had a complete reading comprehension fail and it took me two times to figure out how your lids could look purple when you were using Vent Glace! HAHA!

Anyway, I hope you all have a great weekend. I don’t remember if I told you, but we saw Spidey this week and liked it. 🙂

      Hi Kim!

Happy Friday! I quite enjoyed Spidey, too. Andrew Garfield did a great job. Did you guys watch it in 3D?

We did! It always gives me kind of a headache (I think it’s the ill-fitting glasses), but it was worth it for Spidey. That final websliging-through-the-city sequence was spectacular in 3D. And I agree about AG – I thought he did a good job. I like Emma Stone in everything but I wasn’t too sure about him when I first read he was cast. He was a good choice. 🙂

Did you see it in 3D, too? Are you going to watch the Dark Knight this weekend? I’m sure it’s going to be crazy-packed!

Between the cat and the boy it’s INSOMNIA CENTRAL. I always keep earplugs nearby. Otherwise I don’t get any sleep at all!

I’m loving all these NARS posts lately. I’ve never been a big fan of the brand but you are making me love their fall collection. I think I’m buying most it when it comes to Sephora. Thanks for the reviews and swatches!

Unfortunately I think these colours would look great with my colouring. I say unfortunately because I DO NOT NEED ANY MORE EYESHADOWS and I have no money on account of saving for next year’s trip to Oz. Bah.

Happy Friday though – I worked an hour late today, how did that happen on a Friday of an otherwise slow week?! xo

Now that looks great, love it. I personally don’t own any NARS make-up (please don’t shoot me) but the more I’m seeing/reading, the more I’m tempted to order a NARS product…

Which one would you recommend as an all-time must-have? 🙂

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
