Wearing MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Kiss Me Quick
In the summer before my freshman year of high school, my friend Nancy taught me how to kiss.
I hadn’t had a boyfriend yet but figured I should probably prepare myself before school started, just in case. Nancy, having dated a boy earlier that year, was my closest friend with the appropriate experience, so on our breaks during the algebra class we took together that summer, Nancy dispensed various pearls of kissing wisdom like…
- Eat grape lollipops before kissing to freshen the breath (according to Nancy, they worked better than breath mints)
- Observe proper gum etiquette (gum should not change owners during a make-out session)
- Practice makes perfect
Forget pillows. Nancy recommended making out with your knee or the back of your hand to more accurately assess spit production and refine your technique (Nancy was all about the scientific method; she wanted to be an engineer). I have to admit — the girl was sharp. 🙂
I hadn’t thought about those old kissing lessons for years until today, when I decided to put the new MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencils ($18 each, part of the upcoming MAC Styledriven collection) to the test.

How well would the new long-wearing, non-drying lip pencils hold up to kissing? With El Hub away at work today, there was only one way to find out…
My knee! 🙂 And the back of my hand (for good measure). I tried all six of the 10 shades, and they barely transferred any of their rich, pigmented color.

MAC also nailed the texture of these pencils, as they glide along my lips without skipping or tugging.
They do cost a little more than the $14 Lip Liners in MAC’s permanent collection, but I think they deliver a smoother texture, less drying formula and more pigment, to boot.
You know how much I love practical shades and everyday neutrals, right? Well, there are several shades here with practical prospects, like pink Nice ‘N’ Spicy and rosy brown Morning Coffee. But it’s the richer colors, like red Kiss Me Quick and dark brown Bittersweet, that really caught my eye.
I find some bold lip liner colors difficult to control, but the smooth texture of these makes them all easy to wield. If you’ve been wanting to elope with a daring lip liner, you might consider asking these out on a date.
PRICE: $18 each
AVAILABILITY: Coming soon to North American MAC counters, stores and online September 22; internationally some time this month

Smooches!
Speaking of kisses, now this song takes me back… Any other Siouxsie fans out there who still bump it on occasion? 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Karen,
How do these compare to the sublime culture lip liner? some of the colors look similar.
Hey Tavi,
Here’s a super quick swatch:

I was just wondering this too. Thanks for the really helpful swatches =)
Thanks Karen! I wish I could buy all 🙂
You’re welcome! 🙂
Bittersweet looks amazing on you! That should be your fall pout look. Also, greta review!
♥ LOLBeauty
I wish I had the guts to wear that out! I usually rock colors like that around the house.
Are you a bold lip look kind of gal?
These new liners look fantastic. I’ve been waiting for MAC to replace many of my fave dc’ed cremestick liners.
I love Siouxsie! (80’s kid at heart). That music video is STILL better than most of the newer ones, lol. I wonder is Siouxsie is a MAC lady herself. 😉
GURL, I’m still bitter about Gingerroot being discontinued. That was one of the best MAC colors, ever.
I wouldn’t be surprised is Siouxsie rocked MAC. I can see her doing something like Russian Red. 🙂
Gingerroot was the BEST!! I saw it on your site and rushed out to get it, but it was d/ced when I came back for a second one. It was the perfect lipliner color!!
Kiss Me Quick looks so good! I think thats the one I want!

That would look beautiful on, Crystal!
*scream* Siouxsie and the Banshees!!!! love love love!!! My all-time fave by them is their version of “Trust in Me” — the song from The Jungle Book. It’s sooooo haunting. It’s also very hard to find!
Want to know how you can take this song to the next level? Make your cat dance with you. 🙂 I did it this afternoon, LOL! Tabs was not thrilled.
Whoa! I thought of this song today for the first time in years, and then I visit your site and it’s here! Crazy.
How spooky! I’ve been BUMPING this song all day. Is it just me, or does it feel like it would be good to belly dance to? 🙂
Kiss Me Quick is so pretty! I really like Staunchly Stylish too–kind of a “my lips but better” type of shade. Just gorgeous!
Totally. All you’d have to do is add a little bit of gloss on top. BAM, natural-looking lips!
I think I’ll be getting ’em all!

Yay! I hope you love them. 🙂
Looks like some great, wearable shades in a great formula.
And you KNOW the 80s music lover in me is a fan of some Siouxsie
I’ve been listening to that song non-stop! I even made Tabs dance with me (against his will, of course).
I’ll be getting Nice n Spicy and Morning Coffee.
Would Tabs get jealous if you kissed the person who invented these liners? 😛
Great colors, Chris!
Um, probably. He’s very possessive!
love nice ‘n spicy and staunchly stylish. definitely going to go check those out! 🙂
Awesome, Jiyoonie. 🙂 Do you currently wear any of the MAC perm Lip Liners?
You look fabulous today karen! New foundation?
Hi Lucie,
Thanks! Yup, I’ve been using the new MAC Matchmaster Foundation in 5.0 for the last couple of days:
https://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/mac-makeup/matchmaster-matchmaster-make-me-a-match-new-mac-matchmaster-foundation/
I plan to review it either at the end of this week or early next week.
What foundation are you liking these days?
Would have a hard time choosing btwn Morning Coffee (not just ’cause I’m an addict lol) and Absolutely It. However, I’d really like more mfrs to transition to retractable lip & eyeliners. Hate the sharpening waste/mess. I’m sure it costs more, but . . . Really wearable colors!
Haha, I’m an addict too! I’ll take mine with 2% milk and sugar, please. How about you? 🙂
Gurl,Bittersweet is calling my name!
Those look great! But such fall colors…I miss the bright summer shades already!
Love Siouxsie and the Banshees I’ve been Kiss them for me and Peek A Boo. Can’t wait for them lip liners:)
Thanks for giving that quick swatch comparing the nude lippencils. I am so going crasy looking at the shades. I love them!
Nice ‘N’ Spicy is easy to pull off. But I find Bittersweet a bit too dark. Any suggestion on how ot wear Bittersweet?
Kiss Me Quick is a gorgeous color!

I LOVE SIOUXSIE! One of my greatest highlights of my life was meeting her back in ’08.
i do like these — im glad there will be a lip pencil that wont fade away in a few hours on me!
LURVE me some Siouxsie! Her makeup looks so modern, like she could have just stepped out of a tent at NYFW. Definitely a style icon for me.
I agree that Bittersweet looks just gorgeous on you. Have you played with it under other any colors yet? I bet it’s got mega transforming powers.
I’d be an Absolutely It kind of girl, but Bittersweet looks really good on you. It’s bold but not “out there” or anything. Very nice! 🙂
Morning Coffee and Bittersweet look so beautiful! I’d like to wear them without any lipstick too 🙂
I love these, amazing colours and staying power! Love your blog read it everyday here. Love from Scotland.
Thanks for the swatches…and for the AMAZING video pick!!! I love, love, love Siouxsie!!
Kiss Me Quick looks like the perfect red on you. It makes your skin look glowing and flawless too. Hold on to that pencil Karen!
