Wearing Lancôme Rouge in Love Lipstick in 181 Rouge Saint Honore on my lips
If one were to poke a nose into my refrigerator right now, they would see a sorry sight. Except for three sad jalapeño peppers and a package of spinach ravioli, the shelves are mostly bare, and that’s because El Hub and I blew off grocery shopping last night to go and see The Artist instead. 🙂
What a great film! I loved every minute, but I went into it with some doubts — not because it’s black and white, but because it’s a kind of silent movie and very light on dialogue.
Glued to my seat! I can totally see why it won Best Picture.
And the lips. THE LIPS! Good thing there were only a few other people in the theater because I kept ooh-ing and ah-ing at the screen. Peppy Miller — she’s the leading lady — was rockin’ the bold, crisp lipstick, and you could clearly tell even in black and white.
So what did this particular beauty junkie do when she got home later that night? Put on a layer of the most pigmented lipstick she could find, of course, in this case the $25 Lancôme Rouge in Love, which, I might add, she wore with her black and pink pajamas.
I’ve been wearing 278 Divine Seduction (a warm raisin) and 181 Rouge Saint Honore (a bold red) a lot lately, whenever I’ve been in the mood for a bold lip.
Both of these beauties tap danced onto Lancôme counters last month, along with the rest of the 21 lipsticks in the new Rouge in Love Lipstick line and the 17 nail polishes in Vernis in Love.

My technicolor side appreciates how much pigment they deliver (even from a single stroke), while my practical side likes the five-hour wear time.
Whenever I slip one of these on, I feel that much closer to Bogart and Bacall. 🙂
PRICE: $25 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Lancôme counters, stores and also online

Late night party people…NOT
Well, there won’t be any more movies on school nights for this girl (at least not this week). No, ma’am. I was up until 3 last night/this morning. Not sure exactly why, but tonight I’m turning in early.
El Hub’s working late, so I’m going watch a few episodes of The Golden Girls until I pass out…
Thank you for being a friend
How was your the rest of your Wednesday? I hope something nice happened to you.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

I have Corail in Love and Rose Boudoir and I absolutely LOVE them! The texture is amazing and they’re so pigmented, too! <3
Karen says
I’ll have to check out Corail in love. Glad you’re liking these!
Happy Thursday!

I got one of the Rouge In Loves in Corail In Love, and I adore it! It’s so comfortable–I actually forgot I was wearing it once! And I also like that Lancome went easy on the fragrance, because their lip products tend to be really heavily scented. I’m definitely looking forward to grabbing more colors.
Karen says
Sounds really pretty, Gina! Did you pick up any of the polishes?
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
I had no idea Divine Seduction would turn out to look so much redder (and less brown)! Definitely very retro glam, Karen 🙂
Karen says
Thanks, Sunny! I know you’re not a red lip kinda gal… but you gotta try it sometime!
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
Hey Karen, I have started to wear sheerer juicy reds and I love them! I was even brave enough to try on the Viva Glam Nicki lipstick today during my MAC makeover, and surprise surprise it really didn’t look that bad! I’ll put the pictures on the blog soon 😉
Karen says
See, I knew you could do it! It’s only a matter of time before you go full on fire engine red, woo hoo!
Adrienne says
I just picked up a Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple, and it’s a very easy to wear, semi sheer juicy warm red, and well priced too 🙂 I think my Rite Aid had the lip butters on sale for like 4.99!

Saw the Artist for my Birthday on Tuesday and loved it. I really loved Peppy, such a gorgeous lady. Also love how red lips look on you, both in black and white, too 🙂
Karen says
Happy belated birthday, Marina! What else did you do to celebrate? Tabs sends you plenty of birthday kitty hugs!

I love the GG’s! I used to work for Lancome and I now for whatever reason stay away from their makeup – which makes no sense because it’s great! Maybe it’s because I used to get it for free! But I may have to try these lippies out! I love the tubes too – very cute…
Karen says
Hi Maria,
How long did you work for Lancome? What are some of your go-to colors?
Maria says
For 1.5 years. It’s a great company but it was within Macy’s and I’ll just keep my mouth shut about that….
I love Shimmer Mocha Havana for blush, Hypnose Drama mascara – but NYX Doll Mascara is a good dup for it, their black Artliner is the best all-around liquid liner I’ve found! I’ve tried so many and it’s the easiest to apply and lasts all day. For Lips, I love Rich Cashmere, Aubergine Velvet and Berry Noir. If you use their Le Lipstique as a base they can really last close to, if not, over 6 hrs. I tried it a couple of times and it worked – total torture for me because I hate eating with lipstick on LOL
Chelsea says
I used to work for Lancome at Macy’s too… I feel ya!
I love Artliners! Super easy to apply, long wearing, smooth application… Maybelline Line Stiletto is a pretty good substitute, though I miss Lancome’s aubergine color!
Karen says
Do you guys remember the Artliner in Indigo Charm from the Declaring Indigo collection? It was epic. EPIC!

Maria says
Aubergine is beautiful! It got stolen when all of my makeup was taken out of the car 🙁
Karen says
The same thing happened to a friend of mine recently. All of her every day items makeup items were stolen. She was really heartbroken. 🙁
Maria says
The hardest thing to get over were the discontinued items! It’s been hard replacing everything but the stuff I know I won’t be able to recover – that’s what I wonder about at night LOL
Adrienne says
I just started working for Lancôme in Macy’s after working as an on call in cosmetics for about a year, and yeah, Macy’s can be… difficult to say the least, lol.
I’ve been in love with Berry Noir since I started at Macy’s, but never wanted to spend the $$ to buy it. I’m so excited because gratis just started, so I can order it in my first gratis 🙂
These new lipsticks are definitely worth trying, they have the vibrancy of the brighter absolu rouges, but last longer even on their own, and don’t dry as much as some of the color designs! If you like Berry Noir there is a really gorgeous deep berry shade (can’t remember the name) that you might really like .)
Karen says
Congrats on your first gratis, Adrienne! 🙂
Maria says
Good luck Adrienne! I’m sure Lancome will take care of you – they’re awesome like that! I miss working in makeup 🙁 I’m back at a desk, in a cube. Gratis is the best!!! A tip for you: get your makeup and cleansers from gratis and your creams from gifts (as long as you’re not an Absolu user bcs those don’t always make gift (as long as your CM is cool with you taking a couple of creams, I think Macy’s let’s you take 3 pc’s per day)). That way you get more bang for your gratis dollar!
Karen says
Thanks for these recs, Maria! I’ll definitely have to look up those colors next time I’m at the counter.
Oh, and Le Lipstique sounds REALLY promising!
Maria says
I hope you like it – I don’t have super dry lips so I don’t know how it will effect that particular issue. I remember an Indigo collection – loved it!
Karen says
Uh oh…I’m like dry lips central (LOL!), so that might be an issue. Maybe I’ll have to give it a go later on in the summer, when dryness isn’t such a big deal for me.
That Indigo collection was fab — one of my faves from the line, ever. I still have the little bear mascot from the launch, too! He’s sitting on my windowsill.
You mentioned you no longer work in makeup and now have a cube job. What do you do?
Maria says
My lil comment bubble goes away sometimes and I can’t comment in the right thread order LOL – anyway …. I’m in Executive Admin. I started out in cosmetics back in ’94 when I was 21. Left in 96 for the office world. Left in 2009 when I had my 3rd kiddo and I had to come back to the office for $$. Plus I’m not a great sales person. I’m all about the fun and I loved to buy stuff! I probably spent more than I made or sold LOL
Adrienne says
Loooved The Artist, and looove these lipsticks. I like that they are long wear, but don’t feel dry or heavy or dry out my lips 🙂 I sell these babies like crazy because I’m always raving about them!!
Karen says
Hi Adrienne,
What are your best-selling colors from the Rouge in Love line? I’m so curious!
corallista says
Divini Seduction is quite a surprize but a gorgeous one, it looks so much browner (and less red) in the tube! I will definitely check these out when they launch here. Love your look here!
Karen says
Hi Corallista,
Great! When they finally launch in your neck of the woods, let me know if you find any shades that are must-haves!
corallista says
Sure! I can already see myself picking up Rouge Saint Honore even though I get very few occasions to sport reds!
Bing says
Husband and moi went to see the Artist last weekend in Larkspur. Can I just say that Uggie the dog stole the show? It was a great film.
