How Hot Is the $36 LORAC Hot Off The Red Carpet Collection? It’s So Hot That It Made Summer Start Early

April 18th, 2011 by Karen 36 Comments

lorac hot off the red carpet

The LORAC Hot Off The Red Carpet Collection ($36) may not push the boundaries of summer makeup, but I’m okay with that. With plenty of metallic gold, teal, bronze and brown, products in the five-piece limited edition will look right at home this summer gracing makeup counters and tan, warm skin.

Two words: smokin’ hot. Hot, like Giselle working the Victoria’s Secret runway, or a shirtless Jakey Poo working an outdoor car wash.

Hot Off The Red Carpet joins five other products in LORAC’s Touch Me, Tease Me, TANtalize Me Summer 2011 Collection

The kit comes with four full-size pieces of makeup (two eyeshadow duos, a bronzer and lipgloss) and this cute golder-than-gold clutch…

Without the flash (but near a bright tabletop lamp; colors are probably more true to life here)

I love where LORAC went with these finishes, in particular the powders. The eyeshadow duos and bronzer apply with sophisticated, fine shimmer that says, “Yes, I’m classy (with a ‘c’),” and they stop shy of crossing the line into obnoxiously frosty territory.

I’m blown away by how much pigment LORAC squeezed into the lipgloss, but that’s offset by how sticky it feels on my lips (almost like an adhesive). A pleasant vanilla flavor and scent nearly make up for it, but the lippie’s still my least favorite piece of this pie.

Despite the lipgloss, I really like the kit, and the price seems right. Purchased separately, the items would cost $104 all together, which makes $36 sound like a steal.

I have a soft spot for warm gold and bronze and often like the way they look on my skin tone. That said, I bet these babes would look lovely on lighter lasses and darker divas, too.

PRICE: $36
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Sephora stores and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+

Where’s the kitty?

Fellow cat ladies, do you ever watch Cats 101 on Animal Planet? Tabs does. The other night one of the kitties on the show caught his eye, and he started meowing loudly to get her attention.

Poor guy used to be an outdoor cat, and I think he misses the company of other felines…

Does your cat ever “watch TV”? What are his/her favorite shows? 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

These colors look amazing on your skintone!

My dog stares at the tv sometimes 🙂 and sometimes gets upset when doorbells ring on tv shows, lol.

That’s so funny that your pup gets mad when doorbells ring on the TV! How is he adjusting to the baby?

It is going well, he just gets confused by all her noises 🙂

His only bad behavior is going nuts barking at the mailman/ups/fedex. He turns into a psycho and won’t listen at all. So we were concerned this would wake or upset the baby. So hubs got him a shock collar even though I was opposed. He got shocked once and hasn’t barked since. He’s really smart but I can’t believe he learned that quickly!

Tabs is so cute! My dog Nico enjoys watching shows with animals in it. He gets so excited when I let him watch those youtube clips featuring cats and dogs but his favorite movie is Bolt 🙂

He was REALLY into the kitties for some reason. I think part of it was because I took him for a walk earlier in the day and he caught a glimpse of the neighbor’s Russian Blue!

How old is Nico? What kind of dog is he?

That is a lovely collection. However, I haven’t made a dent in the Lorac train case I bought during the holidays, so I should abstain.

I love that Tabs watches ‘Cats 101.” When I had cable, I used to watch it since I’m not allowed to have pets in my apartment (my cat currently resides with my brother). My cat, Mouschi doesn’t watch television, but the cat at the bookstore near me apparently loves YouTube videos of kitties. One of the workers was telling me that the cat will start purring and try to touch the other cats. It’s cute and a little sad.

I wish I could wear colors like these but they clash with my skin. They look fabulous on you though! My dogs LOVE watching TV when there are other dogs on it. They try to dig on the TV as if it will make the dog there come out.

Missy checks out the t.v. when there’s something musical going on. This evening I have it tuned to the Party Favorites Music Choice channel and just awhile ago she got VERY excited when Morris Day and the Time’s “Jungle Love” came on! What can I say, she’s inherited my love of 80s music!

My dog doesn’t watch tv really, but he does get weird about random auditory stimuli, like he howls when he hears sirens and looks very perplexed when I watch stuff on youtube lol.

this was also back when I first got into makeup and didn’t think (or even know) to apply shadows wet, but I didn’t like the texture of them and they weren’t very pigmented imo. maybe I had a dud (it was a baked trio) and really just didn’t know what I was doing.. :/

Napoleon (aka LOL since weve taken to calling him that bec he makes us LOL a lot. one of of our kids is a LolCat!) loves Cats 101 and will sit in the couch by the TV when its on.

those eyeshadows came out in single colors and i have a handful of them — they are lovely. so if those duos are anything like those singles — im in!

plus you know i am a Lorac Lover!

That is a whole lot of metallic shimmer (esp that clutch)! The colors do look really nice on you. How’s the fallout with these? You know I’m still harboring my resentment toward Lorac for the Private Affair palette. 🙂

My kitties don’t really watch TV unless it’s hockey. Then our littlest tries to catch the puck on screen. I saw in the comments above that you live near a Russian Blue. Sigh. I’ve always wanted one.

The fallout is actually not bad at all! I used a sticky base and a flat eyeshadow brush and got very little. 🙂

Aww… that must be adorable seeing the little one try to catch the puck on screen.

SO! One of these days I’ll try to snap a pic of the Russian Blue. He’s very regal! Sometimes he chills in our garage, some hopefully I can get a few photos of him.

        Good deal on the fallout!

She’s totally the cutest little cat but it gives me a heart attack because she’ll jump right at the flat screen (and it sits on a console). It would be such a bad scene if she knocked it over.

Oh, that would be awesome! I think they have the most beautiful color and you’re right about their regal look. The Hubs always wanted a white Persian (he likes their smushy faces). All our cats have turned out to be gray strays, though! 🙂

Wally, my striped wonder cat, looooooves Cats 101 and any show with a white background and lots of movement. In general he likes TV time and will happily sit with/on me for the rare hour that I spend watching anything. My daughter’s cat is not so into it. The dogs bark at doorbells on TV too!!!

I think there’s something about the white background that they find entrancing. Does Wally ever look behind the TV to find the kitty? That’s what Tabs does.

Wow, I’m definitely gonna have to go to Sephora and check that out. Those colors look amazing and I love the little clutch too.

Neither of my cats could care less about the TV. My dog doesn’t either but sometimes she’ll hear something in a show and think it’s going on in the house 🙂

By the way, I love Cats 101 and Dogs 101. Me and my son were just watching it the other night.

That’s so funny! A couple of other gals here have mentioned that about their dogs.

Tabs usually doesn’t care about TV, so it was surprising to see him go nuts over the kitties on this particular show. 🙂

Have you ever watched Must Love Cats? That’s another good one.

No, I’ve never seen that show. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it.

We’ve got two cats – Cleo is old, she’s 20! I am actually shocked she’s still around. Then there is Alvin – he’s 3 and does not act anything like a normal cat. He opens the refrigerator. He opens kitchen cabinets to knock down his bags of snacks. He eats the dogs milk bones. He is so freaking cute though. You gotta love him <3

I am going to do your look today. Thanks for your review! I highly recommend this too! Actually the lippie is much prettier in person. Enjoy girls! And thanks again Karen. Your site is so much fun!

I love those eye shadows. They look so pretty!

Oh man, Cats 101 is so cute! A month ago or so, it focused on Ragamuffins, and I learned that they apparently remain kittens for THREE YEARS. I really want one now.

My cats have always been fond of nature shows involving big cats. When I was a kid, I watched a documentary on lions with my parents one night. When it ended, my cat Iceman tried to go around behind the TV to find them. It was ADORABLE.

A couple years ago, I caught Aisha staring at the screen while I was watching an episode of House. On top of that, she was into all things Law and Order. If I were watching the original, SVU or UK, she would perk up as soon as the chimes played. She’d then stare at the screen for a while. 🙂

Tigger will occasionally look up to see what’s happening on Top Chef. He’ll sit with me while I watch anything, but will just snooze throughout anything not related to food or animals. Several years ago, I saw him checking out Meerkat Manor. He likes to curl his front paws under and go up on his hind legs, so I’m pretty sure he considers the meerkats his brethren.
