Here Comes the Bride! Say “I Do” to Sophisticated Shades and Soft Textures With the Simply Vera Vera Wang Transforming Shadow Duos

June 14th, 2012 by Karen 13 Comments

Most of the time when I put on my wedding gown to watch Law & Order: SVU reruns in the living room, I’m bare faced with my hair up in a scrunchie.

Now, though, when I’m feeling extra bridal (like “bust out my veil” bridal!), I’ll know where to turn.

“Vera!”

I’ll turn to one of the 14 new and natural-looking Simply Vera Vera Wang Transforming Shadow Duos ($19.50 each).

Do I really like these buttery soft powder eyeshadows?

Ya know, “I do.” 🙂

Each compact contains a matte and a shimmer, and I think they’re very easy to use. A few pats and swipes from my eye brushes, and I’m transformed from curmudgeonly cat-lover in stretchy pants to belle of the ball (or, of my living room).

Vera’s Shadow Duos prove that fallout-free formulas aren’t exclusive to ultra-expensive department store brands; I love that the grains of these finely-milled powders don’t just look like they’re sitting on top of my skin.

At the same time sophisticated and demure, they practically ooze je ne sais quoi. These are eyeshadows I’d wear when I want to highlight my features but don’t want to draw attention to the fact that I’m wearing any makeup at all.

The two shades I’m wearing in these pics just might be neutral enough for most skin tones. The first, 402, reminds me of a sleepy MAC Satin Taupe. It houses a purplish sheer matte beige and a shimmery taupe; the second, 404, reveals a brownish beige and a nutty brown with flecks of golden glitter.

Swatches from the left: Transforming Shadow Duo in 402, Transforming Shadow Duo in 404, Illuminating Powder Blush in 315, Smoothing Lipcolors in 702, Smoothing Lipcolors in 709 and Smooth Shine Lip Gloss in 806

Worn with a primer, they remain crease-free on me for a solid 6-7 hours (and I really like the way they look in pics). 🙂

PRICE: $19.50 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now exclusively at Kohl’s stores and kohls.com

Such lovely shades – perfect for a bridal palette! I’m really impressed with the pigmentation as well.

I cannot understand the price point of this brand … it’s sold at *Kohl’s* – known for being deeply discounted, right? – and has no proven track record of quality, so why are they pricing it like MAC, Too Faced, etc? Nothing I’ve seen of this brand makes me want to buy it, at least not at those prices (maybe I would try a piece or two if they were cheaper)! I don’t get it :/

I completely agree that the price point seems wrong for a brand sold exclusively at Kohls.

I’d love to see a picture of you in your bridal glory! Did you do your own makeup on your wedding day? What products did you use? I’d love to hear more about your big day!

The shadows are pretty but seem quite small.

I LOVE the look you created! The shadows look really pretty too and so do the lip colors. I am definitely going to check my Kohls this weekend. My sister is getting married soon and some of those shades look perfect!

Y’know, I saw these at Kohls, and there are some pretty shades – soft, buttery, dreamy. But I just feel like they are a tad too pricey for me. Ykwim? I feel like I can get more in terms of staying power from other brands that might be priced lower.
