In a way, Make Up For Ever’s 12 new Aqua Rouge liquid lip colors are like Terminators.
Perhaps Kyle Reese said it best: “It [the lip colors] can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop…”
But unlike those metal monsters from the future, these $24 lip colors just want to hang out with you…for a really, really long time.
From the left: #1 Nude Beige, #8 Red, #7 Pink Brown, #10 Raspberry and #15 Pink
Swatches from the left: #1 Nude Beige, #15 Pink, #10 Raspberry, #8 Red, #7 Pink Brown and the clear gloss
They have a creamy liquid lip color with a doe-foot applicator on one end and a clear, non-sticky gloss with a brush on the other. Layered beneath the glosses, the lip colors, which pack full-tilt pigment, maximum opacity and a mirror-like shine, last on me from 4-6 hours, assuming I sip or nibble on something during that time, and a whopping 6-7 hours if I don’t.
#8 Red
#1 Nude Beige
#10 Raspberry
#7 Pink Brown
The 12 available colors cover the gamut from soft beige to bold berry, and they’re kiss- and waterproof, too, so if you find yourself — oh, I dunno — under a tropical waterfall with Jeremy Renner, you won’t have to worry about your lipstick getting all over his gawgeous face.
But who knows? He might like the faint rose scent and flavor, moisturizing formula and color that slowly fades over time just as much as you do. He is a former makeup artist, after all. 🙂
PRICE: $24 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Make Up For Ever Boutiques, Sephora stores and sephora.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (I do wish the clear gloss sides also had a doe foot instead of a brush, but that’s just me picking nits)
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Whoop-whoop! Time to check Monday off the list. You did a great job today.
Not much going on for me tonight. I’m just sitting back on the couch eating my rabbit food, otherwise known as salad.
I’ve been eating a lot of junk food lately, so now my body’s craving salad…
Other than that, I’m about to fire up the new episode of True Blood. How about you? What are you up to tonight?
You are so right about the gloss side that should have a doe foot instead of a brush! I dunno, the brush is too stiff.
I’m so happy to see your swatches!
Hi CrystalCandy,
Yeah! I don’t mind brushes but would definitely prefer doe foots! So much easier to use, right?
ooh beautiful colors! I need to make a Sephora run soon, so I’ll definitely check these out while I’m there. for now, I’m about to crawl into bed and hopefully have sweet, makeup-filled dreams 😛
Ooooh, I HAVE to get my hands on #8 red!!

Hi Lainey,
It’s a great shade!
Karen, you just sold the #8! To a girl already in the possession of 4 red lipsticks!
Boy there are a plethora of these long-lasting lippies coming out this fall! These look nice too.

Hi Tracy,
I know, right? Have you had the chance to check out the Hourglass ones yet? They’re amazing too!
Omg! Red and Raspberry look absolutely stunning! Neeeeed them!
Hi Angel,
Yeah, both are really, really gorgeous.
Isn’t the shine unreal? I love it!
I like Raspberry! Pretty 🙂
Hi Phyrra,

I love those colors too, Gio!
Have a nice day. 🙂
That Pink Brown looks great on you, Karen.
This collections does not seem to have any colours that interest me (nor MUFE in general this fall), but that’s ok. There’s so many other makeup!
Hi Rita,
There’s a ton of really cute stuff coming out for fall! What’s caught your eye so far?
Happy Tuesday!
Absolutely love your first photo! You’re so beautiful! I’m assuming that that one is the pink!
Hi Soo Jin,
Yes it is. Thanks for pointing it out…I just updated the pic with a label.
Have a nice Tuesday!
I’d have 8, 10, and 15 to go please! Gosh that red is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING on you!!!

That’s the same color Madonna’s wearing on tour right now!
Raspberry looks great!
Hi Diana,
I think that’s my fave out of this batch.
Are you a MUFE fan, too?
Hi Karen, how would u compare no.8 with MAC’s hey sailor’s Red?
I am really feeling Pink and Raspberry, but all of these colors look great on you!!!
Thanks, lady! Any progress on figuring out how to get the equipment to Greenland?
The irony of it is — the crew and equipment change has been delayed by 3 weeks so … while ive found the solution to my problem, it turns out, I need not have pressured myself into doing it quickly because hey – I have time now!
Raspberry looks gorgeous. And now I’m craving raspberries…

Happy Tuesday!
Red looks stunning on you and I’m so envious of your bright and glowy skin, you look absolutely beautiful 🙂
Hi Miriam,
Thanks, hon. That’s the NARS tinted moisturizer working it’s magic…
What foundation are you using/loving these days?
At the moment I’m using Revlon’s Colorstay in Golden Caramel. I have temporarily given up on finding my perfect foundation because either I’m color matched wrong, the tinted moisturizer/foundation oxidizes, or my t-zone ends up looking like an oil refinery after 30 minutes of application.
Your skin is flawless and any foundation would look beautiful on you, you lucky lucky duck 🙂
Wow!! All of those swatches look stunning! some of those I can totally see becoming staples for me!

Yes! Lots of pretty colors. 🙂
The swatches look great…I like the red shade particularly…Can I ask you which blush you’re wearing?
The red is gorgeous!!
That is one gorgeous red lip color! I’ve read somewhere it was created for Madonna and is a universally flattering red!

The raspberry shade is so gorgeous! Pink Brown was not what I expected! Thanks for the swatches!
I know, right? It’s SO 90s!
These look so gorgeous on you especially the raspberry and nude beige. Going to have to try these the next time I’m at Sephora!!

I love love love the raspberry! You mentioned its a moisturizing formula, which is surprising. Usually the long lasting products are like lip pleather. Did you notice any flaking?
Oh my god–those are unreal. They’re so shiny and opaque! I just got the new Guerlain one in Paresse, but now I’m kinda wishing I had gotten this one because it has that clear gloss on the other end…
Hi Karen,
What color are you using for the first picture? It’s really pretty..
This is a great lip stain ! I bought the #13 which is a dark plum and it lasted all day, another trick is to apply a lighter lipstick over it then put on the gloss. Once the lipstick fades then the stain is still on your lips.
These achieve SUCH amazing color. I went to Sephora immediately after seeing your post and fell in love with #11 but it’s just too hard for me to get it off my lips 🙁 Don’t think I could get used to it, but for someone who doesn’t care, these are unreal! I’m trying to bootleg the look with NARS velvet lip pencil in Damned + MAC Ladybug l/s + NARS tribal rouge l/g. It’s pretty close on me, but not identical.
Hi Monique,
What did you use to remove the product? I had to bring to bring out the big guns, MAC Cleanse-Off Oil, but something like jojoba oil would probably work too.
ohhh… I’m going to have to go back and try oil. Looks like I have lunch break plans! I was just using the Sephora general public make-up remover. An oil remover makes sense. I’ll report back!
Karen, you look absolutely stunning in that 4th photo wearing the Red shade!
wow, #8 red looks STUNNING on you, karen!
Hi Karen!
What shade are you wearing on the very top picture? I love it on you!!
Thanks!
I must be the only one….I love that the clear side is a brush so that the color won’t stuck on the sponge.
The most brilliant part to me thought is the gradient black dots on the clear side! It covers up the hint of color the brush picks up!!!! So it looks clean and neat all the time! And the black makes it look super chic!!!!!
The power of good design that is the perfect example of form and function!
