For Statement Lips That Last (and Last): The Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge Liquid Lip Colors

August 20th, 2012 by Karen 51 Comments

make up for ever aqua rouge review

In a way, Make Up For Ever’s 12 new Aqua Rouge liquid lip colors are like Terminators.

Perhaps Kyle Reese said it best: “It [the lip colors] can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop…”

But unlike those metal monsters from the future, these $24 lip colors just want to hang out with you…for a really, really long time.

Swatches from the left: #1 Nude Beige, #15 Pink, #10 Raspberry, #8 Red, #7 Pink Brown and the clear gloss

They have a creamy liquid lip color with a doe-foot applicator on one end and a clear, non-sticky gloss with a brush on the other. Layered beneath the glosses, the lip colors, which pack full-tilt pigment, maximum opacity and a mirror-like shine, last on me from 4-6 hours, assuming I sip or nibble on something during that time, and a whopping 6-7 hours if I don’t.

The 12 available colors cover the gamut from soft beige to bold berry, and they’re kiss- and waterproof, too, so if you find yourself — oh, I dunno — under a tropical waterfall with Jeremy Renner, you won’t have to worry about your lipstick getting all over his gawgeous face.

But who knows? He might like the faint rose scent and flavor, moisturizing formula and color that slowly fades over time just as much as you do. He is a former makeup artist, after all. 🙂

PRICE: $24 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Make Up For Ever Boutiques, Sephora stores and sephora.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (I do wish the clear gloss sides also had a doe foot instead of a brush, but that’s just me picking nits)

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Whoop-whoop! Time to check Monday off the list. You did a great job today.

Not much going on for me tonight. I’m just sitting back on the couch eating my rabbit food, otherwise known as salad.

I’ve been eating a lot of junk food lately, so now my body’s craving salad…

Other than that, I’m about to fire up the new episode of True Blood. How about you? What are you up to tonight?

You are so right about the gloss side that should have a doe foot instead of a brush! I dunno, the brush is too stiff.

I’m so happy to see your swatches!

      Hi CrystalCandy,

Yeah! I don’t mind brushes but would definitely prefer doe foots! So much easier to use, right?

That Pink Brown looks great on you, Karen.

This collections does not seem to have any colours that interest me (nor MUFE in general this fall), but that’s ok. There’s so many other makeup!

At the moment I’m using Revlon’s Colorstay in Golden Caramel. I have temporarily given up on finding my perfect foundation because either I’m color matched wrong, the tinted moisturizer/foundation oxidizes, or my t-zone ends up looking like an oil refinery after 30 minutes of application.
Your skin is flawless and any foundation would look beautiful on you, you lucky lucky duck 🙂

This is a great lip stain ! I bought the #13 which is a dark plum and it lasted all day, another trick is to apply a lighter lipstick over it then put on the gloss. Once the lipstick fades then the stain is still on your lips.

These achieve SUCH amazing color. I went to Sephora immediately after seeing your post and fell in love with #11 but it’s just too hard for me to get it off my lips 🙁 Don’t think I could get used to it, but for someone who doesn’t care, these are unreal! I’m trying to bootleg the look with NARS velvet lip pencil in Damned + MAC Ladybug l/s + NARS tribal rouge l/g. It’s pretty close on me, but not identical.

I must be the only one….I love that the clear side is a brush so that the color won’t stuck on the sponge.

The most brilliant part to me thought is the gradient black dots on the clear side! It covers up the hint of color the brush picks up!!!! So it looks clean and neat all the time! And the black makes it look super chic!!!!!

The power of good design that is the perfect example of form and function!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick.
